I played with this some more and got it working; I'm now pretty sure my
understanding was essentially correct. So I have documented it in the
Wiki to save the next person the legwork.

I also implemented a slightly less ugly variant of the idea at the
bottom of my previous message, which seems to work but may not be the
best way to solve the problem. I've put that up on the Wiki page too; if
there's a more elegant way to feed RIFE objects into Spring's dependency
injection system, please tell me!
