Well fortunately there are exceptions to the rule, otherwise we would never update any spkg :-)
Meanwhile, Sage still fails to build on Fedora, one of the most popular linux distributions, because the ecl/maxima update is stuck in limbo (http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/10187).
