In SL (and CentOS), kernel source files required for most routine tasks (for example, building certain kernel modules) are provided by the kernel-devel package. In your case, you need to install the full kernel source, hence the instructions. Now, if you want to go ahead and build your modified kernel, then read through another wiki page: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Custom_Kernel You might want to share the reason why you need to modify sched.c, perhaps?
