RE: [313] Baltimore House / Breakbeat (was Mo' Ghetto Tek)

2002-08-22 Thread Malcolm J. McAtee
On a semi related noteIs anyone familiar with baltimore house or baltimore
breakbeat. I have seen some floating around a couple of the record shops
here in Philly but have never really opted to give it a listen.

Everyone that I have asked about it has sort of shrugged or sneered...but
whenever I have heard it described it sound a whole lot like Booty music
or ghetto tech...apparently it sells in massive quantities in Baltimore.

(i should just get off my ass and give it a listen I suppose)

Re: [313] mail order question

2002-07-28 Thread Malcolm J. McAtee
I ship a lot of records to europe on a reguler basis...
I usually ship priority air mail, which is a little more expensive (approx.
$14-$20) but still reasonable. Packages usually arrive in 6-8 days this
way

Plus I mark everything as a gift which apparently allows it to bypass customs
(not really sure about this)

RE: [313] Andrea Parker.

2002-05-10 Thread Malcolm J. McAtee
I saw her play in philly about a year ago...
Very Cool! She didn't really mix-She just sort of slammed everything
together, but there were no train wrecks and the energy was definetley there.
She played everything from some old 69 records to NWA, public enemy and
Planet Rock.

I think some of the cool Dj kids thought it was a little cheesy, but the
crowd loved it!

BTW Melodious Thunk is one of my favorite (Electro or no) ever...

RE: [313] miss kier...

2002-05-08 Thread Malcolm J. McAtee
There were some releases on Gerald's Juice Box Label that were definetley
headed in the drum and bass direction. The tempo was a lot slower than it
is these days but faster than you standard house tune.

He probably invented the "drum and bass" genre (along w/ 4hero)
Sort of intelligent 'ardkore

Re: [313] where?

2002-04-19 Thread Malcolm J. McAtee
Terra Deva is a vocalist he has done a lot of work with!
She has been to philly a few times to work with Pete Moss.

I am going to check Mr. Webster tonight at the Aqua Lounge.
This place only holds about 200 people so it shouldd be a nice little gig!
