Asbury Park police seek suspect in shooting Posted by the _Asbury Park Press_ (http://www.app.com/) on 02/1/07 BY _MICHELLE SAHN_ (mailto:(UNKNOWN%20ADDRESS)) ASBURY PARK — Police are investigating the shooting of a 30-year-old Lakewood man here this morning. The victim suffered one gunshot wound to the buttocks, said Deputy Police Chief Mark Kinmon. The man was treated at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune and released. Kinmon said the Lakewood man was driven to the hospital, but it is still unclear who took him there. Asbury Park detectives and the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office are investigating the shooting. Anyone with information is asked call city police at (732) 774-1300 or use the department's tip line at 1-800-799-8280, or call the Prosecutor's Office at 1-800-533-7443. [AsburyPark] Re: Fwd: ALERT: Super County Supt. on Monday's Agenda
I'm sorry, but I'm struggling to understand why greater state oversight would be bad... It's clearly not working today? Can things get much worse than the disfunction we've seen here - and apparently also in so many other Abbott districts given the other post today? I don't know anything about this proposal other than what you posted below. Can you please shed some light on why you are opposed to this? And if not this, what? --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > > > > ALERT! > > > > 'Super' County Superintendent on Monday's Senate Agenda > > > > On Monday, Feb. 5, the state Senate may act on a new version (S- 19) of legislation to create "super" executive county superintendents. > > > > Thanks to your previous efforts, we not only held off action on this proposal, but also successfully eliminated a provision that would have moved school board member elections to the partisan November election. > > > > It's time to act again. > > > > S-19 would affect every local school district in New Jersey. > > > > The bill would . > > > > · Give a politically appointed state official sweeping powers over local school district budgets. > > · Eliminate savings school districts have already achieved. > > · Affect school district grade organizations and boundaries. > > > > The bill would not save property taxes > > > > Take action now . > > > > 1. [AsburyPark] More info on Bloods Raid
State, federal authorities round up suspected Bloods gang members By ANGELA DELLI SANTI Associated Press Writer February 1, 2007, 12:48 PM EST TRENTON, N.J. -- State and federal agents rounded up 20 members of the Bloods street gang in a series of raids Thursday that began before dawn and spanned three New Jersey counties and Bucks County in Pennsylvania. Authorities said gang members were arrested in Monmouth, Mercer and Ocean counties in New Jersey and in Bristol, Pa. They are suspected members of the Sex Money Murder set of the Bloods. Nine weapons were seized in the raids, which ended around 9:30 a.m. The suspects were taken to the state police complex in Hamilton Township, Mercer County, for processing. Warrants have been issued for five additional gang members, authorities said. Numerous federal, state and local police agencies were involved in the raids, known collectively as Operation Dog Pound. A briefing on the operation was scheduled for Thursday afternoon at the state police's Regional Operations Intelligence Center, known as The Rock, at the West Trenton headquarters. Thursday's raids were similar to a gang takedown in July in which more than 60 members of the Nine Tre Gangsters were arrested in cities across the state, including four gang leaders who authorities said were directing gang activities from inside state prison. The Nine Tre's are a notoriously violent set of the Bloods street gang. --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, "Fred" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > BREAKING NEWS: Major offensive launched against Bloods street gang > Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 02/1/07 > BY MICHELLE SAHN > > State Police said they have launched a major attack against the Bloods > street gang. > > Raids, targeting the gang in Monmouth, Ocean and Mercer counties were > launched before dawn this morning, said Capt. [AsburyPark] Hey Abbott!
A new outrage in the Abbotts Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 02/1/07 Post Comment Former Gov. Brendan T. Byrne once quipped that when he dies, he "would like to be buried in Hudson County so I can remain active in politics." He should consider getting a job with either the Camden or Newark school district. Then he could keep collecting a paycheck long after his demise. Audits of spending by four of the state's poorest school districts, released Tuesday by the state Department of Education, revealed a disturbing level of what Education Commissioner Lucille E. Davy termed "opportunities for questionable activity." Auditors found that Camden paid more than $330,000 to employees who had been dead for years, even decades. Newark also spent $310,000 in payroll for 28 dead employees. Who cashed the checks? Gov. Corzine should tell Davy to turn over the findings to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Audits for the state's other 27 Abbott districts are planned for this spring. Why wait? Davy should send out the auditors now, and start with Asbury Park, which has the highest per- pupil costs among them. Just as egregious as the wasteful spending were reactions from officials of the audited districts. Camden said its new administrator hasn't had enough time to study the report. Judging from the personnel records, they should check his pulse, too. Six of the posthumously compensated staffers had termination dates two to 32 years after they died. Thirty-two years? Can't blame that on direct deposit. Newark objected to auditors calling some of their expenses questionable. This from a district that spent $1,795 on a jukebox, shelled out $29,995 for a Jeep Grand Cherokee with leather interior and navigation screen for the superintendent, and paid salaries to 28 dead people. Jersey City had $558,000 in questionable spending, including $2,385 for an administrator to attend the Oxford Roundtable in England. City officials blamed auditors for not interacting with school personnel before issuing the criticism. Sorry, but listening to spin during an audit doesn't make it more effective. David Sciarra, executive director of the Education Law Center that has fought for more funding for these districts, called for a review of the state education department. Isn't that shooting the messenger? Davy said each district will be asked to develop a plan to correct deficiencies. That's not enough. New Jersey taxpayers have shoveled billions of dollars into those districts. Administrators and employees responsible for any dollar spent on non-educational items should be held accountable publicly for their misuse of public money. Yahoo! I've read about alot of robberies in my time, but stealing a guys puppy? Jeeze...
