Sure the ones that serve drinks and nice lunches do ok - they bread and butter is night during the week and weekends all day. But I guess I still think about the day business - they USED to say the day traffic pays the bills and the nights are profit. that was then. I was at biggies at lunch (around 1:30) - just me. mayfair had no one - sure there were people on the beach but not tons. And there was plenty of parking. I look at it as when I was in business on the boardwalk and what we'd look for - from 7 am to midnight. It's a different time we live in today. It's not a generic AP - more so a good mix of daytime activities in the summer (camp business) for golf and splash park and beach. That brings in parents etc. It's not everyday in AP you get 10,000 people - you have to (if you want to) think broader - night just from 9-10 pm. Whoever ventured to stay open for the late night crowds this weekend didn't complain -other then being tired. Regardless - I'm enjoying it for what it is - and so do my kids ): Yahoo! [AsburyPark] Re: The Esperanza and the lot behind the Empress
So, where are our team members? Honestly, we only need a few at this point: One person to investigate whether or not code violations have been issued (all over the City), one person to get the current zoning of the properties and one person to go to a Council meeting. The rest of us need to make official complaints to the code enforcement department (and maybe the City Manager?) Violations either cause compliance or fines - even sometimes jail time. Remember, the City needs money. If our pal Werner can do jail time and pay $19k in fines, these other violators should do the same. I have pursued the clean-up of the lot behind the Empress Hotel. Whom else is pursuing anything else; or are we still simply complaining to each other? --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, "oakdorf" wrote: > > > > --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, "maubddny" wrote: > > > > Don't forget about 2nd Avenue between Berg and Kingsly. > > > > Parts of 1st 2nd and 3rd still look like a battleground. > > Face it unless you come in from Sunset Ave - > > At least many of the streets are getting a makeover - looks better -even the > Asbury Park Circle is now supposed to get repaved/curbed etc. > > Maybe then those NY guys will understand it's not a racetrack. > Yahoo! Don't forget about 2nd Avenue between Berg and Kingsly. The Jersey apartments are literally falling apart. The window fell out and rolled onto the sidewalk a month ago. There is going to be someone seriously hurt in or around that building. The Virginia has overflowing garbage containers, screens hanging out of the windows, broken mailboxes and broken glass everywhere. [AsburyPark] What makes for BW success during the day?
I just got back from the BW for a nice walk and some food. 1. SPLASH PARK - fairly priced - hot weather and fun for KIDS. KIDS. 2. MINI GOLF - KIDS KIDS with parents. KIDS with camp. So what were the parents doing who weren't at the Splash Park - eating. The kid comes running back ma, can I get a $1.00 pack of oreos - It's also nice to see some places trying to lure you in with beer and drink specials. Finally. I wish MM didn't go to bed with Pepsi. I like choice. Give me a coke - and no plastic please. AP still doesn't lure in crowds during the weekdays. Yahoo! [AsburyPark] Re: The Esperanza and the lot behind the Empress
The lot behind the empress WAS always a parking lot. haul away the crap and make money - unless you'd rather keep parking limited in instead of getting $10 or $20 a pop, you get $5. People may rather pay $5 to park in a lot vs the meter depending on their day -it's easy to park and go or park west of Kingsley... They used to get $10 back in the late 70's there - $180 for the season per spot for a boardwalk concession - You don't want to blacktop everything either - things that are temporary suddenly become permanent. Plant grass, maintain it and only park on major event days. level it, grass it and maintain it. It will look better then dirt and crushed gravel which is what you see 95% of the time those lots are empty and not contributing any tax. --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, "dapawprint" wrote: > > > All valid points. [AsburyPark] Re: The Esperanza and the lot behind the Empress
All valid points. As a visitor, my ability is limited. The lot on Kingsley is referred to by The City as "the staging area." I have personally approached (several times) the mayor and the deputy mayor with regard to that lot. I was told that the lot would be cleaned up. It is my understanding that, historically, that lot had always been parking. It is quite possible that it is zoned for exactly that. Zoning is a matter of public record. Again, my ability is limited as I primarily visit on the weekends. Would one or more of you be willing to visit the code enforcement office at 1 Municipal plaza to obtain the zoning records for that lot as well as the Esperanza lot? While you are at it, it might also be interesting to see what code violations have been issued to those properties (also public record.) Code enforcement seems to have no problem issuing violations for cracked sidewalks outside of your residences, sandwich boards outside of your restaurants, etc. (Look at Werner!) It is reasonable to believe that there *SHOULD* be violations on these properties. Amongst many things, broken fencing, damaged and non-existent sidewalks come to mind. Knowledge is power. If a concerted effort is to go fourth on rectifying these abominations, the facts must be known. For this effort to succeed, one or more of you need to do some data collection. Then follow up at a council meeting and by making formal complaints to code enforcement. I did, as I suggested, make a telephone call to code enforcement regarding the "staging area". I received voice mail. Since I believe that Mr. Grey is still out on a paid leave while he defends his "conduct unbecoming" charge, I will also send a written complaint to "Asbury Park City Hall, One Municipal Plaza, Asbury Park, NJ 07712, ATTN: Code Enforcement." I urge you to do the same. I have been following up with the City Council for many months now on that staging area, a little backup would be nice. Jack is correct, nothing will be accomplished by complaining to ourselves.
