Re: Can I get the Client's Time instead of the Server's?

2000-08-28 Thread JustinMacCarthy

You need to use a little Javascript on the client to pass the uses timezone
to the server

The following will write a hidden field containing the offset in minute
between the locale time and GMT

n = new Date();
str = "";
document.write(str);

or you chould write it to a cookie for later use..

You can store the offset in a session var

Yeah, the whole sector has really come alive, and the reasons I love CF are
slowly being eroded.
With PHP ASP+ etc around , it's a different market to when I was saying how
cool CF2 and 3 were.

Heres looking forward to CF5 (or whatever they are going to call it.) Hope
it's as great as CF2 or CF3 was when it came out ( but better then CF1.5
:-) )

Re: Calling CF template from perl?

Can't you use the Net::SMTP module ???

or to call the cf using "libwww-perl (LWP) modules" , something like ...

use LWP::Simple;
$content = get($URL);
you'll need to encode the URL you send
more @ http://www.perl.com/pub/doc/manual/html/pod/perlfaq9.html
or www.cpan.org to get the modules.

Re: custom functions & Perl inline

2000-08-22 Thread JustinMacCarthy

No Not yet , Michael got too busy to finish it in time.. there is a lot of
people waiting to see it though

on that note , I came across the Perl "inline" module, which allows you
to use other languages INLINE in your Perl code. so you can do

print "9 + 16 = ", add(9, 16), "\n"; print "9 - 16 = ", subtract(9,
16), "\n";

use Inline C => <<'END_OF_C_CODE';

int add(int x, int y) {
  return x + y;
}

int subtract(int x, int y) {
  return x - y;
}

END_OF_C_CODE

and thought , that something like that would be cool for CF ..

Hi Andy , just fowarding you a old mail from Howie on this subject.

However this is not a complete solution because the records are still in the

Let me know if you solve the pack issue !!!

CF can use UNC for cffile , Cfdirectory operations however the is an issue
with cfcontent.

To use UnC you must run CFSERVER under an account with permissions to access
the share.

4.5.1 memory leak? is this really a leak we are talking about ?

2000-08-15 Thread JustinMacCarthy

Are you guys talking about the memory allocation in CF or a bona fide
leak

CF does grab memory as it needs and yes it doesn't release it - by design.
It fingures that if it needed the memory once it will do again. And there is
an over head in aquiring / releasing memory.

>From "Looking At ColdFusion Memory Usage"

@
http://www.allaire.com/Handlers/index.cfm?ID=15014&Method=Full

"Neither of the statistics provided by the Task Manager or Performance
Monitor will show memory being returned. That's because ColdFusion 4.5
incorporates the latest version of SmartHeap, which no longer returns unused
memory to NT. Instead, memory is held, assuming ColdFusion may reuse it in
the near future. While this method is faster and more efficient, SmartHeap
can lead to confusion when looking at memory statistics on NT. "

So is this something different..??

Re: Newbie Question - CSV text file + IE4/5 fun

If you use the pips , ensure that you change your ODBC driver settings, a
comma is default.

BTW if you looking to play around, check out the IE Databinding stuff with
CSV file.

6 Lines of code and you can output the file sort it by columns and allsorts
of cool stuff. Handy for a quick csv viewing and backend stuff .IE only
though...

Re: More elegant way of passing URL variables?

2000-08-11 Thread JustinMacCarthy

Encrypt  the url
I wrote a couple of tags that encrypt/ decrypt query_strings

so instead of index.cfm?value=6&name=jim

You get

page2.cfm?94946560A4946560B495214551E01031C1D1A.
and on page2 you include

and you can still use url.value and url.name etc

I don't have it handy at the moment though and it chould do with
more testing but I'll end it to you over the weekend if you want ...

Re: From .exe to .dll

2000-08-11 Thread JustinMacCarthy

Its a little more complicated then that :-) You need to know how to handle
input and ouput params etc...

If you are using VisualC++ there is a template to get u started.
(I think there is a KB article on how to install it if you haven't got it)

Have your programmer look at the source code of some of the freeware cfx on
 intrafoundations site and you'll see the structure.

Re: From .exe to .dll

2000-08-11 Thread JustinMacCarthy

If you have the source code I would recommend wrapping the code in a
cfx_tag. It's very simple.

For example of cfx source code in C/C++
Have a look at the excellent www.intrafoundation.com . There is also some
info in Ben's advanced book and plenty of help(!?!!?) on this list :-)

If all that fails you chould use cfexecute ( or CFX_consoleCommand @
intrafoundation.com ) to capture the input from the dos program..

Re: History list

2000-08-11 Thread JustinMacCarthy

I would suggest using an array and the

ArrayDeleteAt(array, position)
ArrayAppend(array, value)

so if you have a var session.history

as you add a values use ArrayAppend(session.history, value) and
if the array is over 5 entries use ArrayDeleteAt(session.history,1)

Re: Looping through lists

2000-08-01 Thread JustinMacCarthy

Assuming you have

namelist = "tom,dick,harry"
IDlist = "1,2,3"

and you want to

select id, some_col from table where id in (#idlist#)

output is

id some_col
2  textorsomething
3  textorsomething

then you chould do

#listgetat(namelist,listfind(idlist,id,))# #some_col#

ugly but ...

then:

Remember that the scheduler only refresh every x minutes where "x" is the

the default is 15, so if you set a event to happen in 5 minutes the

Re: Query manipulation

2000-07-25 Thread JustinMacCarthy

Hola,

If you need to manipulate/sort the same data over and over you might be
better off saving the recordset as a structure or wddx in a session or
client or cookie variable (or as wddx in a temp db table).

You would need to stick it in a structure first.

If you are using HTML4 browsers you could manip this data client side WDDX +
javascript or IE4 cvs control using a dynamically generated data file..

Hope that helps

LocalDirector spliting the load.
Do I need two certs??? Does the user need to remain on the same box for =
SSL to work ?

Thanks=20
