BasicAuth is supported - either write the credentials directly into the
sources.list or use a netrc-like auth.conf file to store your credentials
(the later is only available in squeeze).

You could also use all kinds of SSL stuff for authenticate server as well
as the clients (X.509), just see
/usr/share/doc/apt/examples/apt-https-method-example.conf.gz
(some stuff was added since lenny here, but most should be available in lenny)

on oAuth or if you want to work on other stuff related to APT,

Has there ever been any interest in supporting private/authenticaed APT
repositories (possibly by using oAuth or BasicAuth in the HTTP transport)?

I've recently become interested in being able to do this, but I'm not sure
it's possible with APT right now, though it seems it wouldn't be too hard to
add.

Well, etch is the old stable release, which is no longer
supported, really. The current stable is called "lenny",
which is soon to be replaced by "squeeze".

I don't know SBC and there may be something in your question
that I am missing. There are two general answers to your question
if you are aware of the new releases but don't want to upgrade.
One is called backports.debian.org, which does the best it can
do to port newer versions of software to the older libraries of
previous releases.

The second answer is snapshots.debian.org, which is an
archive of all the packages that have at one time been associated
with any release. And I would be somewhat surprised if
etch is not also covered by that effort.

If you cannot find what you were looking for, then ask on
a debian-user mailing list of your region. You may find other
suitable mailing lists here http://www.debian.org/MailingLists/subscribe

The etch release of Debian is no longer supported. Because of this, it
has been moved to the archive server (archive.debian.org). Etch gets no
updates, and no security support, so it would be best to not use it
anymore if you can avoid it. However, if you need to continue using it,
then archive.debian.org is your place to go.
