Re: [slim] Speaker Recommendation
Here's a couple of brands to keep on your short list: www.nhthifi.com www.paradigm.com ebay and audiogon are good places to find used speakers. If you want to look to Internet only dealers check out the following: www.aperionaudio.com www.av123.com -- Linzer -- Linzer Linzer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=462 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36925 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Speaker Recommendation
Here is a link that might help you with your RF Interference: http://svconline.com/mag/avinstall_understanding_controlling_rf/ Long time ago we had an amature radio station right next door and when we started to get interference from him he came and installed a ferrite bar to all our TV and Radio powercords by winding the power cord around the bar and securing it with electrical tape...I do not know if there is any difference in number of times the elctrical cord is turned around the bar or not. As for speaker's I got some pretty good sounding (to me...individual mileage my vary ;) Polk R30s from Fry's for $60USD a pair couple of months back...but as mentionned before bookshelves are lacking in the Bass...so a subwoofer is required (which I have not gotten yet; I may move my Definitive Technology BP6s to the bedroom after family room remodel so no more problem :) kkitts;215640 Wrote: > yea - I guess I will hit some of the BB stores and do some listening > tests. > > BTW, I have those phone line filtering devices - they work fairly well. > I wish that I could find something equivalent for filtering the RF > interference out of the AC wiring. Re: [slim] Speaker Recommendation
Thanks - I will take a look at a local dealer and see if I can find them. As I see what is available at the various price points I think I may adjust my range up a little. I found a pair of B&W 600 Series DM602S3 on sale last week for $500.00. Not on sale this week - but I may audition a few sets of speakers in this slightly higher price range and then shop around. -- kkitts kkitts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1993 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36925 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Speaker Recommendation
I've become a fan of Paradigm speakers, and have a pair of Monitor 7 floorstanders that I use with our Squeezebox. Those are out of that budget, but I've heard good things about the Atoms and Titans, both from the Performance line. They should be $220 or $250 for a pair, respectively, depending on your local dealer. The lowest I auditioned were the Esprits at $450, and probably would've been happy with those before hearing my uncles Studio 20s. At any rate, they're a good budget wise brand IMHO. I also run a Yammie receiver (RX-V1300) BTW. For about $430 (perhaps less if you have a generous dealer), the Mini Monitors would be a nice step up. -- GlennT GlennT's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10243 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36925 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Speaker Recommendation
Try any of the Klipsch RB Series Bookshelf Speakers. I currently use RB-35s for my surround speakers. They really kick and the bass output is great. Fairly large though. They can be had on Ebay for a good price. -- Club1820 Club1820's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10999 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36925 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

yea - I guess I will hit some of the BB stores and do some listening tests. BTW, I have those phone line filtering devices - they work fairly well. I wish that I could find something equivalent for filtering the RF interference out of the AC wiring. I have a keyboard amp and a set of powered speakers that pick up that radio station - never been able to solve that problem. Just curious - what are the bookshelf speakers that you would recommend - even though they may be out of my price range... -- kkitts kkitts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1993 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36925 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Speaker Recommendation
Most of the bookshelf speakers I can recommend are a little higher than your price range. I normally highly recommend staying away from big box stores but I did get a pair of 2 way Harmon Kardon bookshelves about 6 or 7 years ago that I was extremely happy with for a small room and they were under 300 at the time in a BB store. I'm not familiar with their current lineup but if you can comfortably read a spec sheet then you can narrow down your search to a few good choices then go listen to them for the sound type you like. If the company doesn't release the detailed specs, then they are not worth buying as they have something to hide no matter how well marketed they are. Actually, what I really wanted to say, was that your phone company should be able to provide you with a filter to help keep your phone line clean. Should be a freebie as they are very inexpensive but I can't speak for your phone company. -- Murph Murph's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36925 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

The Aego-M are powered of course - so I'd be looking for non-powered equivalents... -- kkitts kkitts's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1993 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36925 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Speaker Recommendation
A pair of B&W DM303's will run you $300 for the pair, and they're pretty small/inobtrusive--about 13" tall. They poop out at the low end at just over 100Hz (can be fixed with a sub), but other than that they sound pretty good in a small room, especially for their price. -- CatBus CatBus's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7461 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36925 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
