Re: My iMac quit working?
With any luck, you have the same problem I had shortly after buying a new (old) 333 slot load: there's a small battery inside that just flatout died. About $10 at Battery Plus (where you should bring the old battery to confirm it is in fact dead). Yoou will have to open the machines case and use care- there are instructions on the internet (and probably here at LEM too). Good luck On 2/26/10 8:31 AM, deadpsyc...@gmail.com wrote: So I just bought a rev. B (I think) tray loading iMac it was working wonderfully all night until I shut it down and moved it upstairs. When I went to turn it on nothing, nada, zip, so I tried a different power cord zilch. Any ideas what could have caused this? I was really excited to get this machine and now this happens. Re: trouble coming?
Thanks so much for the VERY helpful list, which I will try soon. It sounds like the problem is not the computer but rather the operating system. I only paid $100 for this iMac and it's worked great for a year so I can't complain too much. Maybe it's just time for me to face buying OS 10 from the LEM list or on ebay. If there's a major dollar difference betweenthe OS systems I can get by fine with OS 10.3 (or maybe even OS 10.2). I don't think I HAVE to have 10.4. But what do you guys think is best for an iMac Flower Power (500 processor)? Cyrus Griffin wrote: > Yup, sounds like trouble in the making. You probably have some > corruption in your system. trouble coming?
I have an imac Flowerpower bought used with OS 10.4.11 (no OS disks). Has worked great. About two weeks ago a couple of odd things started to happen: (1) Outlines of boxes started to appear and disappear on the screen, kind of like a ghost outline of something that was on the screen that had just appeared; and (2) Under the Apple menu, "Force Quit," "Restart," "Shutdown," and "Log Out Apple User" all appear in the pop-up menu screen TWICE! Obvious something is going on here. Anyone know what, and what is likely going to happen? retrieving my old website files
I think there are shareware programs that will allow me to retrieve the entire content of my webset, or at least most of it, as an outsider (that is, as a vistor would). I have a gardening website that has been dormant since last year and I just learned from my ISP that they discontinued offering website service several months ago. I can't access my files with Dreamweaver because apparently the logon stuff has not been maintained but I owuld like to ge the gardening files and images from the site so I can rebuild it and upload it to my University website. The tech guy at my ISP was surprised that the files can still be found online, but they can. I am just looking for a freeware program that will let me get as many of these files as possible without having to save them to disk one by one (which would take forever). flash drive and OS 9.2.2
I'm back with the same problem but with a different flash drive (I gave up and returned the other one). This one is a PNY 4 GB, which claims to be compatible with OS 8 and higher. I am trying to set up the flash drive so I can move files back and forth between: My iMac g3 Dalmation, which has OS 9.2.2, and My iMac g3 FlowerPower, which has OS 10.4 on it. 10.4 recognizes the flash drive with no problem. 9.2.2 does not. I have gotten advice here in the past to reformat the flash drive on the 9.2 machine using Disk Utility. I don't seem to have that program on my hard drive or on the (original) 9.1 disks that came with the Dalmation. I only have utility programs called Drive Setup and Disk First Aid and neither of these will recognize the flash drive. On the PNY site they do say: Compatible with most PC/MAC laptop and desktop computers with available USB 2.0 port (Backwards compatible to USB 1.0) Is it possible my old Dalmation is USB 1.o and that is the problem, and if so what does Backwards Compatible mean, and what do I do about it? Last, if there is a utility program for 9.2 called Disk Utility (the utility does exist on my OS10.4 machine) where do I find it on my original installation disks and is it available as a free download from Apple? I looked there but didn't see it. Thanks so much. --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to Low End Mac's iMac List, a group for those using G3, G4, G5, and Intel Core iMacs as well as Apple eMacs. A different mail questions
I recently started using my new g-3 FlowerPower with OS 10.4, to which I loaded Thunderbird. (Previously I was using OS 9.2 with Entourage.) I don't really know the different between pop-mail and imap (or other types of email protocols, if they exist) but I think that is where I am having this problem... I have a gmail account and a school account assigned to Thunderbird. The school account works fine except that the return address it gives people is from the gmail account. I can't seem to find a way to change it. I am pretty sure the school account is imap (whatever that is exactly). I have looked and looked in the Accounts Setup area but the only options for outgoing (smtp?) are the gmail account and "Default". I've tried both and both give my gmail addie as the return email address. I cannot see to find a way to change the default (if that is the problem). --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to Low End Mac's iMac List, a group for those using G3, G4, G5, and Intel Core iMacs as well as Apple eMacs. thumb drives (jump drives)
I just got a 4 GB thumb drive (is this the same thing as a jump drive?). The package says it works with Mac OS 9.1.x+ and OS X. I got it to transport files between my trusty Dalmation and the "new" FlowerPower I just bought. The Dalmation has OS 9.2.2 on it and the Flower Power has 10.4 The thumb drive's icon appears on the Mac with OS 10.4 but will not appear on the desktop of the Dalmation with 9.2.2. Is there something more I need to do when or after inserting it into the Dalmation to make it work? I tried simply inserting it and also leaving it in while rebooting. Also, since I put the Thumb Drive in my Flower Power (with 10.4) the hard drive icon on its desktop has moved down to about the middle of the screen and it remains there even after rebooting. Why did that happen and should I be concerned? As always, thanks in advance for great help and information. --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to Low End Mac's iMac List, a group for those using G3, G4, G5, and Intel Core iMacs as well as Apple eMacs.
