[newbie] Printing in Netscape
Thank you all who responded to my request for information on how to handle printing in Netscape. I suppose they'll have to kill another tree because of me now. It works fine with a command such as: lpr -Pprintername Again, thanks to all who responded... Bruce
[newbie] printing in Netscape
I have installed a printer, using printtool, and run the test page (which prints fine). My question is: When I try to print in Netscape, I get a window asking for a command. What should I type in this window? Thanks, Bruce

I use Linux with a cable modem on RoadRunner, and it works great. Why don't you try this: Run LinuxConf. Go to Networking, then to basic host info. Then select the tab for your network card (eth0). Click on the optin for DHCP. Back out of LinuxConf, activating your changes. You may have to reboot, I don't know. That's ALL I have to do to make RoadRunner work with Linux. I've seen the same thing many times. Here are some suggestions: 1. Make sure you have a linux username and password that exactly matches your windows username and password. 2. Make sure that you have a samba share that is useable by the particular user. 3. Make sure that you have the samba share configured in smb.conf for the particular user, or make it a public share (writable). 4. Make sure smb.conf is configured to use encrypted passwords. 5. Make sure you add the linux/windows user to the encrypted password file by using the command: smbpasswd -a XX where XX is the linux/windows username. You will be prompted for the password. Then try it again. [newbie] NFS with Windows
Does anyone know whether or not you can use Sun's Solstice NFS client on a Windows platform to mount Mandrake's NFS exports? I would like to use Mandrake as a server in an environment where all the PCs run Solstice. I need to know if anyone else has done this. [newbie] Use of Mandrake as a server platform
Greetings all; I have been playing with Mandrake at home for a while now, and am considering introducing it at work for use as a fileserver platform for a small (30 or so machines) fileserver using Samba. The one thing that I am concerned about is doing backups. I currently back up about 4GB of data to tape every night, and I'd like to know if anyone out there has a suggestion as to what kind of program to use to do this task. I occasionally need to restore a file or group of files. Is TAR up to a task like this? Is there another program I should be looking at? Thanks in advance. [newbie] shadow passwords
I need to know if I have shadow passwords enabled or not. Is there an easy way to tell? I haven't changed anything from the defaults of Mandrake in this regard, and can probably work either way, but I need to know what the situation is in order to get Samba to work. Amidst all the problems you guys are handling, I thought I would just let you know that I downloaded the Mandrake distribution CD-ROM image from ftp.cs.univ-paris8.fr, wrote it to a CD, and successfully installed Mandrake on the first try.
