Re: no shell for qmail user (qmails, qmaill,...)
if you are looking for a solution with only one entry in /etc/passwd you can use vpopmail (http://www.vpopmail.cx) -> 1 entry in /etc/passwd - everything runs under a single UID/GID -> Support for Oracle, Sybase, Mysql, LDAP, /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow and default cdb authentication storage etc. for more features, have a look at their page. cya Joel
Re: qmail queue problems .. help
>i'm wondering if exists some binaries or scripts to cleanup/fix >the qmail queue >( /opt/qmail/queue/mess > /remote > /info > /bounce) Have a look at: http://www.faqts.com/knowledge_base/view.phtml/aid/1217/fid/206 : -- How can I delete a lot of spam mail from the qmail queue? May 9th, 2000 06:35 Howard Jones, Nathan Wallace Magnus Bodin Take a look at qmhandle: http://www.io.com/~mick/soft/qmhandle.html Don't forget to stop qmail before you mess around in the queue. An alternative that I've used successfully is to 1) Stop qmail, qmail-smtpd and anything else that might try to deliver messages - leave qmail-pop3d, then at least users can get their existing mail. 2) Delete the offending messages from the /var/qmail/queue/mess directories with something like: find /var/qmail/queue/mess -type f -exec grep "^Subject: Want a University Diploma" {} \; -print -exec rm {} \; 3) run queue-fix to clean up the appropriate related files in todo, intd etc. 4) restart qmail. qmhandle requires individual message numbers to delete messages. When you have 100,000 messages, this is impractical! queue-fix is written by Eric Huss, and is available at http://www.netmeridian.com/e-huss/queue-fix.tar.gz It's also worth knowing that the find command will still potentially take hours to delete all that junk - be prepared for some phonecalls! -- cya Joel

strange problem with SMTP connection to gmx.net
I had a strange problem with mails to gmx.net today. Every message to gmx.net got this error: deferral: Sorry,_I_wasn't_able_to_establish_an_SMTP_connection._(#4.4.1)/ I tried to do kill -ALRM [pid of qmail-send here] but I always got the same error... but I was able to telnet the (very slow) gmx mail server (mx0.gmx.net). I didn't knew any solutions... so I restarted my system ;( after that I did the kill -ALRM [pid of qmail-send here] again... and it worked! but 20% of the mails to gmx.net still had this deferral: Sorry,_I_wasn't_able_to_establish_an_SMTP_connection._(#4.4.1)/ error... I restarted again... kill -ALRM [pid of qmail-send here] again.. now it worked! anybody already had the same problem? or know what the problem was? thanks for answers! cya Joel

Re: trouble injecting bounce message
thanks for your help. I've just found out another way to fix this problem. I used the queue-fix (http://www.netmeridian.com/e-huss/queue-fix.tar.gz) program by Eric Huss. It repairs or generates a qmail queue structure. You can use this to help move your queue location, or if you regenerate the file system and the inode numbering changes. It will also fix permissions and ownerships of the files. Have a look at http://qmail.plig.org/top.html#usersoft thanks for your help anyway, Joel > I have just recently had the same problem although in my case I have to > remove alot of spam that was caught in my queue and the ever growing queue > was choking the system... hi, I have a lot of these entries in my /var/log/syslog file. what do these entries mean? do I have to care about them or are these messages just 'information'? Aug 3 06:26:22 joshua qmail: 965276782.869518 warning: trouble injecting bounce message, will try later thanks for an answer Joel
