Re: CS & Immunity
Dear Whitney, The biggest part of your immune system is between your ears. That "fight or flight" reaction is there for a reason, and the creepy crawlies you get when you have bugs (internal or external) causes most folks (wait!! wait!! I forgot. This is not my week to speak for "most folks," so beg pardon) causes me to look for bug killer. I don't trust my phagocytes and other unmentionables to work without my mind also being involved. I really like the way you think, Whitney. But I'm gonna treat you like any good sister and disagree occasionally. CS & Immunity
Not true in Lyme Disease. Having Lyme disease and making antibodies does not offer any immunity ! You can get reinfected over and over and indeed people have. And this is why, if I thought I had Lyme (which I already do, but I mean in hindsight, knowing what I know now) I wouldn't wait. I'd take the CS as soon as possible and kill those buggers before they set up permanent housekeeping in my body! Just MHO. chc ___ Hello Deb and everyone: This story seems to me to illustrate the virtue of giving your immune system a chance to fight off any bug it "catches" thoroughly *before* coming to the rescue with CS, with electromedicine, with antibiotics, or with *any* external anti-microbial. If your immune system is able to fight off the invaders, it will do so by creating antibodies against the invader--enough antibodies, and strong-enough ones, to defeat the enemy. After the invaders are gone, you retain the antibodies for an extended period of time--in some cases for life. They, in turn will protect you in the future. Of course there will be times when we need CS or something like it. But for the most part, it is best to let the immune system take care of the infection on its own, as long as it seems to be doing so effectively. That has been my feeling for quite sometime Nancy. The SURFACE area of smaller particles is quite astonishing. Maybe the math pros around here could give us an laymans example of surface area of particles that are 100ppm at .001 verses .005 for example. I thought Reid was going to say something today about his Water-oz silver. It appears that he is in the placebo study at the moment. Smallest Particle CS: Key to killing Lyme?
The info at the CSPro site & regarding the Motherlode regarding smaller particle size could certainly have significance to those treating Lyme disease with CS. In recent scientific literature from Lyme Disease Foundation, as well as a couple lectures I went to, I learned that borrelia burgdorpheri, the bacteria that causes Lyme disease, apparently attacks intracellularly. Thus, it would make sense to take the smallest particle size CS possible, enabling more silver per given ppm to be available to the vast no. of cells infected. Perhaps this explains why some of our list people have responded better to CS than others; either their infection hadn't gone intracellular yet, or the particle size of their CS was smaller than the others. If HVAC is the answer to the smallest particle size, I'm no where near close with my 24volt AC to DC unit. It certainly has helped me keep Lyme at bay, but I want to go "all the way" in my fight against these microbes, which incidentally have the ability to cloak themselves with human proteins, deceiving our immune systems. I know this sounds like sci-fi, but it's not. This is based on current research. Off topic: Praise the Lord-- my computer hasn't crashed since I installed win98 this afternoon! MCT Fund Update 7/31 AM
There were no updates on 7/30. More funds have been pledged. They are shown below. First, however, an editorial comment in response to bjs' concerns (which I appreciate): >There are those that want other people to tell them what >to do with their money, and there are those that would >like to make that decision for themselves. Let's keep it clean as we can. >bjs As the instigator of the MCT idea, and having inherited the responsibility to track the pledges, my policy is the following: The pledges being listed as part of an MCT Fund are for the purpose of testing home brewed colloidal silver (possibly compared to a commercial brand) for either bacteriostatic properties (limiting growth/reproduction of bacteria) or for bactericidal properties (ability to kill bacteria). Pledges can be made or withdrawn at any time until a decision is made and money is sent. Decisions will be made by unanimous vote. Anyone not voting or disenting, when the time comes, will be considered to have withdrawn their pledge. Lab tests will not be done and checks will not be cashed until the final committed amount has been received. I will publicly disclose what funds have been received once we get to that point. I will respect anyone's desires to remain anonymous, but will still disclose the amounts accordingly. Therefore, I concur with M. Devour's opinion that funds for different purposes be kept separate. I don't want to be involved in collecting or reallocating money for Jim's efforts, mostly because it could be too complicated and messy. I've put my money where my mouth is. I think Jim's work is valuable. I think it deserves to be supported financially. I've sent $50 to Jim Einert and I've restated my $50 pledge to the Microbial Challenge Test. I recommit myself to obtaining solid proposals for the MCT from one or more labs. Although it appears that there is evidence that some silver products either kill bacteria or limit its growth, I want to know how a home-made brew stacks up. I agree that we need to define the manufacturing process and quality standards of what we test. Please, don't anyone feel forced or coerced to support any efforts by members of this group in any particular direction. When the time comes, you'll do your real voting with your checkbook, after using your brain and your heart. Until then, all pledges are simply an indication of the level of support you feel you can give, assuming you agree with the direction most of us choose to go in. Based on responses to date, the support for a microbial test is clear. Testing for TDS...
Mike and silver-listers: I talked to a gentleman named Pete at Hanna Instruments in Rhode Island, and told him exactly what it is I'm trying to do with CS, and what range of PPM I am trying to achieve. He originally had intended to suggest the $15 TDS-1 or the $46 DiST-WP1, but upon further reflection he suggested what they call the PWT. It has a range of 0-99.9 uS/cm (micro-Siemens). 1 micro-Siemen/cm is equivalent, Peter says, to 2 mg/l or 2 ppm. So, you could use this instrument, which has an accuracy of 2% of full scle (or 2 uS/cm) on CS with an actual TDS of 12ppm, and get a reading of 22-26 uS/cm. This number is easily and, perhaps more accurately, translated into a reading of 11-13 ppm, an accuracy of +/- 1 ppm. Further, Hanna can supply a calibration solution for $8.40/460mL, which, if properly cared for, could last for a very long time. The calibration standard is at 84 uS/cm, which is 42 ppm, and is much closer to our range than anything we could manufacture reliably ourselves. Before I spend anything on this, I'd like to know what some of you think of this. Darkfield microscopy
Here is a response to questions by Johan and Jim. Darkfield microscopy is accomplished by using a special condenser. The condenser delivers a hollow cone of light with the tip of the cone focused on the specimen. The angle of the light rays is such that all of the light misses the microscope objective, thus causing a dark field of view. However, a specimen can refract or reflect some of the impinging light and divert it into the microscope objective. Therefore, objects in the specimen appear to be bright against a dark background. With this type of specimen illumination it is possible to detect objects even when they are smaller than the resolution limit of the microscope. However, this does not mean that you can measure their size, at least not directly. A similar situation is known in astronomy. When you look at the stars at night with the naked eye, they appear as pin points of light. Because of their vast distance, the diameters of stars can't be resolved by the naked eye. In fact, even when one observes the stars with the most powerful telescopes on Earth, they still look like pin points of light because their diameters are too small to be resolved!!! Nevertheless, the stars are seen easily, we just can't see their shape or measure their diameters (although astronomers have special techniques to measure the diameter of stars). Here is an example that most of us have seen. Early during the day, or late in the day, when the sun shines through a window, it is easy to see dust floating in the air. These particles are much too small to be resolved by the naked eye, yet we can see them. The operating principle in this case is similar to the darkfield microscope. So the question is, can you measure a smaller particle size with darkfield illumination than brightfield? Perhaps you could push the theoretical resolution limit slightly with darkfield. Suppose you could measure a particle with a 0.1 micron diameter using darkfield compared to 0.2 micron with brightfield. Will this help our research significantly? I don't think so but correct me if I am wrong. But there is one thought I had. Perhaps one could estimate the relative size of CS particles in a darkfield according to how bright they appear. If the amount of light diverted by a CS particle is proportional to its size, then larger particles should appear brighter in the field than smaller particles. To do darkfield work you need to pay attention to the numerical apertures of the condenser and objective. The numerical aperture should be stamped on the body of the condenser and the barrel of the objective. For example, an Abbe condenser (for brightfield work) typically has a numerical aperture of 1.25. This is a measure of the cone of light it will deliver to the specimen. The numerical aperture of the objective is a measure of the cone of light that it will accept from the specimen. A typical achromat objective of 100 power (oil immersion) will have a numerical aperture of 1.25, a high dry objective of 40 power will have a numerical aperture of about 0.65. You also need to have some understanding about the refractive indices of different materials. Air has a refractive index of 1.0, water 1.33, glass 1.5. If you want to use the full numerical aperture of an Abbe condenser, it is necessary to apply immersion oil between the condenser and the bottom of the specimen slide. Without the oil, you limit the numerical aperture to just below 1.0 because the refractive index of air is 1.0 (i.e., light rays of a greater angle will be reflected at the glass to air interface and not proceed into the specimen). My darkfield condenser has a numerical aperture of 1.33. The cutoff for the inner surface of the hollow cone of light it delivers is 1.2 (condenser is stamped with 1.33 - 1.2). Therefore, this condenser would be totally useless if it is not oiled to the slide (or one could use water since it has a refractive index the same as the NA of this condenser). If you don't oil this condenser to the bottom of the slide, all of the light from the condenser will be reflected off the glass-air interface and none will reach the specimen. Now if I want to use my high power objective with this condenser, I have a problem. Some of the light from my condenser will enter the objective because it has a higher NA (1.25) than the inner cutoff of the condenser (1.2). In order to overcome this problem, my objective is fitted with an adjustable iris (like in a 35 mm camera) which can be used to stop down the objective (i.e., reduce the NA). Then the iris is stopped down just until the field becomes dark. At this point I have maximum resolution with a dark background. What if you don't have an iris in your high power immersion objective? If it has a higher NA than the cutoff of your condenser you have a problem. You could try to fashion a stop to insert inside your objective but I would not recommend doing this. In this case you will probably ha

Also, I believe these type of filters provide some kind of chemical purification also don't they? Original msg follows: Hi All, I don't know if this has been covered in the past but anyway, regarding the possibility of mechanically filtering at the level of .005 - .015 microns. It looks like this is a very feasible way to go. There is a company that produces suitable filters in .01 and .03 micron sizes. There is some initial equipment cost but it isn't totally unreasonable. I didn't get an exact inventory because I was in a hurry when I spoke with them but my feeling is that the necessary static eliminator, filter holder, and other equipment to filter volumes up to 1 litre at a time would be in the $100 - $200 range. As I come to understand the setup better, I suspect that the price will come down. The filters themselves are $140 for a pack of 100. They may or may not be backwashable depending on the use. Even at 1 use each that only adds $1.40 / litre to cost of production. Not too much for a guarantee that the CS is at the biologically active particle size. Attached is the url for the specs on the filter. Oh yeh, the sales tech that I spoke with there said that they already have some customers using this specific device to filter colloidal gold. I agree with Bruce's cautions. Filtering would require accurate testing, before it's effects could be accepted, or rejected. First we need to establish the 'accurate testing'. giardia and cryptosporidium treatable by cs?
Dear silver colloiders, I posted a query regarding these two water borne parasites to the rife list, and was suggested to refer to you.Does anyone have info on cs effect upon giardia and cryptosporidium ?Apparently they survive chlorine & UV exposure undeterred, but can be boiled to death. There is a major concern in Sydney,Australia regarding the city water supply which has been found to be contaminated by the above critters. My guess is that ozonating might be effective,as this has been in use by local public swimming pools since a recent scare(same bugs).Hey,maybe there's a challenge for measuring cs "kill" using these 'strong' bugs? Filters.
Mike, What about one of the PUR or other camp water purifiers. Some filter down to .004 micron. About 70 bucks if I remember correctly. The ones in the .2 to 1.0 micron range only go for around 30 bucks. Thing is that the better one might just filter out the silver as well, at least for the larger particles and clumps. Just a thought. Vern -Original Message- From: M. G. Devour To: silver-list@eskimo.com Date: Thursday, July 30, 1998 1:41 PM Subject: Re: Followup to PPM techniques I just checked in my trusty Fisher Scientific catalog, and there are lots of different filters in the range of 0.2 microns and above, and many down to 0.1 microns. I did find one interesting entry, Alumina matrix filter membranes from Whatman, in 0.2 micron, 0.1 micron, and 0.02 micron!! Not cheap, but would give you a decent idea of what concentration of bioactive particles you have. So careful filtration/separation techniques could be used. Be well, Mike D. If Doug feels we can afford to hold off on those ppm assays long enough to work out the initial standard recipe, and a few of us want to do it, then we can go that route. Yes, it could seem like that. It was indeed CS that produced the skin burn, but only after prolonged exposure. Cotton wool _repeatedly_ soaked in CS and held on the area over about two weeks. Anyone can try this with a cotton swab plastered to their hand, and repeatedly soaked in CS, for about two weeks. This is probably equivalent to regularly drinking CS. I've not noticed bubbles forming, but perhaps microscopic examination over the 2 week period would reveal something of that nature. Destruction of enzymes by silver molecules was indicated in one of Roger Cathey's substantial papers on enzyme therapy; which also seems consistent with the skin burn i've experienced. Indeed, the beneficial action of silver on bacteria is probably the same action which destroys enzymes. Do a word search on silver in Roger's papers to confirm Roger's comment; though as mentioned my own experience seems to also confirm the comment. Re: Colliodal Silver as related to Rife Treatment [from Jim Bake
A more complete qoute - FYI Chris Gupta [snip] Allow me to urge caution with colloidal silver. CS destroys enzyme activity; supplemental enzymes (preferably injected) will be very important. My own experience also demonstrated that CS does burn skin tissues, during prolonged exposure/tissue contact. This would then indicate that the gastrointestinal tract and stomach lining will be harmed by prolonged use of CSilver. I have found CS useful for short term uses; as indeed hospitals do -- for certain wound dressings. Though, using CS, my minor but persistent tinea condition was in remission for a time, the condition returned with a vengeance. My experience indicates, and personal view is, that CS is not a cure all; and very probably has significant problems during prolonged use. Enzyme therapy is quite probably a useful alternative adjunct, along with supplemental amino acids and plant based minerals. Try filtering the same batch again in a new filter? See if the ppm reading drops again by a similar or somewhat smaller amount. Other than filter inefficiency, there shouldn't be much to remove on the second pass. Also, try two different volumes to test, different by a factor of two. If it's an effect of the filter surface area adsorbing particles the smaller sample will see a larger drop in ppm than the bigger sample, since the rest of the CS in the bigger sample will go through essentially unfiltered after the surface saturates. (If that's not clear, don't worry. It's pretty murky to me too!) I think these *might* be valid tests. Just guessing at this point. Be well, Mike D.
