Thanks a lot. Actually, as I have figured out, it was the option of
including Composers and Conductors as Artists that made the list much
longer.

In the settings, under My Music, set 'Group compilation albums

In Basic Settings use 'Clear library and rescan everything'.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] 24/192

2010-06-19 Thread Leigh

I'm extremely late to the party, but will agree that hirez does NOT mean
hi-fidelity if the mastering is done poorly. I plunked down change for
HDtracks Frampton Comes Alive and was VERY disappointed at the sound.
Very compressed. I can live with the fact that a spectral analysis
shows no energy at all north of about 18 kHz - a limitation of the
original tape no doubt - but the sound is squashed, all the ambiance of
the venues is gone. In my opinion of course. But, it is like the whole
"I'll buy the vinyl version because it forces engineers to use less
brutal limiting/compression" idea - completely, and demonstrably,
flawed reasoning. Ironically, with all the dynamic range 24/96 offers,
they could easily release stuff with very little compression and you'd
still be able to have a tremendous amount of dynamic range in the
music.

Attached is a waveform of the first song of the album, three
masterings: Top is HDTracks 24/96, middle is MFSL, bottom is 1st
release A&M CD.

Original image is: http://gromit.orf5.com/pics/fcawaveform.png

I won't buy stuff from HDTracks anymore until I have heard from others,
if possible, that the mastering is good. And this one was done by Doug
Sax of all people, who has a history of doing good remastering jobs
(think Pink Floyd). Oh well, this discussion is for another forum.

[SlimDevices: Touch] My Brand New Touch Does Not Seem To Work

2010-06-19 Thread Apesbrain

For the life of me I can't figure it out. None of my digital or analog
AV cables fit the connector on this thing. Maybe the "major online
retailer" sent me the UK version? I know the Brits use some funky
interconnects that we don't see in the States. Even if I did have one
of those SCART things, it really bothers me that the Touch only seems
to play one song by one artist. I'm sure I'm going to tire of that
pretty soon. One good sign, however, is the HP logo on the back of the
Touch. I guess Logitech has contracted out Touch production to them.
That should solve any hardware shortage problem; soon every Walmart in
America will have an ample supply on hand!

/irony

Seriously, I hope that Logitech can trace the a**hole who did this
repack through the MAC number and get me some justice. I've been
tracking this thing all week waiting for it to arrive!

Oh, "major online retailer" agreed without any issue to expedite
shipping of a "real" Touch to me right away. Should be here in a day
or so.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Artist scan in SBS vs. Touch's built-in server

2010-06-19 Thread vinhattieu

Hi there,

I have a collection of around 1000 FLAC albums on my PC, and the same
collection on a WD Essential Passport plugged in my Touch. Recently I
notice something strange: My Touch's built-in server has 400 only
artists for 1000 albums, while for that very same collection my SBS
detects 2000 artists.

It seems to me that SBS regards each song artist in compilations as
separate album artists, while TinySC groups them under Various Artists.
If so, how can I make my SBS behave the way TinySC does (because I don't
want to scroll through so many artists while browsing my collection).

Many thanks.

Hello,

For people (like me) who have stuck pixel(s) on the screen of their SB
Touch, it could be great to have a "stuck pixels fixer" screensaver.
Example can be found here:

What do you think about that idea?

1. Where's your apology for wasting our time on this? Finally, after
all your numerous posts purporting to present the truth, all the
legal, and all the ethical aspects...it turns out you were misinformed
the whole time. The lesson: try getting the facts before you make all
sorts of assumptions, esepecially in an area in which you don't have
expertise.

2. And even after knowing you were wrong in the first place, you can't
leave it alone. Stop beating a dead horse! This and other forums have
established that HDTracks makes a good faith effort to provide
authentic hi-res files, and has said they will give refunds is a track
turns out not to be. We're all capable of deciding if the hi-res tracks
are worth the money to us or not. We don't need your help.

I'm sure, once again, you'll keep the thread going, because this seems
to have developed into an odd obsession with you. It has for me too -
an obsessive desire to stop receiving email updates with the nonsense
you continually post on this thread.

It could be related to 7.6, I'm using 7.5.1.
However, if you got the time, I'd appreciate if you:
1. Enabled debug logging on plugin.custombrowse in SBS
Settings/Advanced/Logging
2. Browsed into the menu
3. Post the server.log file when the system has finished processing the

I'm guessing you use the SQLite database ? or have you switched to

Btw sort by year sort it the "wrong way" the newest release at the

for music chronologically by the oldest album first makes sense to me
.

In most cases in an artist/bands career the 2-4 first albums are the
good ones , then they are basically running on empty and cash in from a
dwindling fan base as long as they can.

example who needs another rolling stones or deep purple album ? after
the late 70's
