thank you much for your well-informed response. So what I take home is
that I probably have to try in order to have an answer in my particular
kind of setup ... or forget about improving the whole thing and start
investing into new music files instead ;)

Sure, both interesting, yours will depend a lot on the DAC though. What
I am after is info on whether the Linn DS SPDIF output is that much
better (or at all better) than that

Back in the days when i had my SB3 i used a linear supply simply because
the switching one that came with my box induced HF noise into my amps
that was to spot as very HF chirping. The linear one i had didn´t.
After groundung my system better it did make less of a difference. One

That PS tuning effect is known and been communicated numerous
times over a long period of time. Almost any solution reported
over here made a quite substantial improvement

One feasible mechanism could be the PSU spraying airborne RFI all over
the place and interfer
