Try this. It's the Linux Newbie Administration Guide. It talks about
Redhat, but it applies and it is written by newbies. That means it
shouldn't be over your head. It cleared up some questions for me.

Is there any web page that teaches how to install Linux (best if it is
Linux Mandrake 5.2)? Or is there any very cheap book (i'm almost broke)
on that?
I set the option for "no_accel". That seems to have fixed the problem.
Thanks again!! :)

You can mount the second hard drive in your Linux and then perform
something like an Hard Disk upgrade. So all the Linux system gona be
copied on your second one. Take a look in Hard Disk Upgrade Howto to
perform the copy. Hope that help. Take a look at this link.

Linux should detect your zip drive when it boots.
When I boot up, my computer sees the zip drive as hdd. It mounts it as
the first partition on that drive. Here is the command:
mount /dev/hdd1 /mnt/zip
I made the /mnt/zip directory using mkdir. To unmount the zip drive, I
use:
umount /dev/hdd

I installed an internal zip drive (ATAPI). I can use only a preformated
zip. Other zip disks I use give me the message I can't read superblock
or I have to specify the file system (depending what i did on the fstab
i guess)
How do i edit the fstab? do i have to do anything else?

Hi. Newbie here.
I have a two day old Mandrake 5.3. The kde-installer script encountered a
bunch of conflicts while upgrading to kde 1.1.1 , leaving me without kde. I
managed to recover, mostly...
Mandrake says they are 100% compatible with RedHat 5.2. Maybe not?
Maybe a fix needed to kde-insta

I accomplished that feat issuing the "chmod u+s /sbin/shutdown"
Now my regular user as well as root can

I have installed a mandrake 5.3, updated with kernel 2.2.5 and
recompiled succesfully. As I am a linux newbie, I installed on a 1.6Gb

Hi, Martijn,
Assuming that your network card is on the list of supported hardware,
recompile the kernel to include support for your particular card. When
you reboot the new kernel, your card should be a

If you want user lyn to have temporary root access, simply type su at
the command prompt, then enter the root password.

If you have Windows 95 on your machine, just go to Control Panel /
System / Device Manager / Sound, Video, and Game Controllers

Depends which shell you're using. If you're using bash, for example
(which is the default shell for Mandrake installations), you'll need to
edit ~/.bashrc.
