(313) technology eastern tour

1999-09-23 Thread Kelli B Kavanaugh
--FYI--

For immediate release:

Detroit to rule the eastern hemisphere.

Technology Eastern Tour-Europe October 1999 02.10.99 - 30.10.99

It isn’t much of a surprise that a production as large as this is coming
from a City known for its world class manufacture of a product that has been
in the making for nearly twenty years: Detroit Techno.

This tour, featuring some of Detroit’s premier pure techno artists, is
setting out to cross the Atlantic and take over the continent. The line-up
is as hardcore as the production team making this event happen—Technology
Productions embodies its roots as an electronic militia.

Technology is a Detroit-based production company that has organized over
eighty events throughout America. The team has assembled some of Detroit’s
favorite artists over the past five years for a Detroit-styled show. The
mission is to bring a complete tour package to Europe that is the first of
its kind. This is a unique opportunity for club and event promoters.
Overall the troop is representing both the old and new school sounds of
Detroit with this powerful and diverse lineup. There is no question that
this is one of the largest undertakings to come out of Detroit in ‘99.

As the tour prepares for infiltration, the anticipation is astounding. Tune
in and witness a spectacle that will have the world’s attention. Look for
daily tour updates and a complete tour date event list on the (313) based
on-line store theplayground.com. The tour kicks off October 2 in
Ravensburg, Germany and ends October 30th in Denmark at Club Vega.

ARTIST BIO'S:

SUBURBAN KNIGHT a.k.a. James Pennington
Underground Resistance, Transmat

Suburban Knight’s production career started in ’87 as the co-producer of
Inner City’s "Big Fun" and "Good Life" after beginning his DJ career in ’83.
He went on to release on Transmat in ’89 where he brought to life his
Suburban Knight moniker with the release of "The Art of Stalking." He then
joined the Underground Resistance camp to release "Nocturbulis Behavior" in
‘90, the "By Night" EP in ‘95, and a track for the Interstellar Fugitives
album. Suburban Knight has played at nearly every major club and event
around the world. He has recently toured Japan as well as filling multiple
guest slots at Tresor, Berlin; Fuse, Belgium; Lost, London; and many others.
His DJ set paints an elaborate picture of the many different styles of music
that make up the past, present, and future of techno funk. His live
performances are very rare. A chance to see him perform live is something
that is not likely to happen twice in one’s lifetime. Suburban Knight’s
contributions to music have helped to mold our modern-day concept of Detroit
techno.

GiGi GALAXY a.k.a Gary Martin
Teknotika records, Mole People

GiGi Galaxy is the owner of Teknotika records. He founded the label in ’94
and has since gone on to release over 20 records and a compilation c.d. He
also has 3 records on his sub-label Mole People. In addition to his own
projects he has done 3 records and 1 c.d. for Eye Q records and a variety of
remixes for the likes of Gus Gus, Aquarhythms, and Der Dritte Raum. Gary’s
busy DJ and live performance schedule complements his career as a producer.
He has performed at a variety of major clubs and events in America and
Europe; some of which include Tribal Gathering, the Hardwax anniversary
party, and club spots in Copenhagen, Scotland, and the Netherlands. His DJ
set is best described as sexy tech-house, and his live pa is truly amazing.
He has a well-rounded portfolio that makes him a powerful force in techno
and house.

LOCUTUS a.k.a Wes Herche
Bipolar records, Pure Plastic records

Locutus is one of the new faces of techno in Detroit. He started his career
as a producer with the dawning of his own label Bipolar. There have been
three releases which he has been featured on including Bipolar 0001, 0010,
and 0011 (numbers EP). He also has a upcoming release on Pure Plastic,
which will be hitting the streets late 99’. Locutus also released a very
rare mix c.d. that was limited to 100 copies; it is a very hard find. His
DJ sets are much like his releases: powerful and twisted techno. After
playing at Club Food in Belgium his DJ set was described as "quick to set

As far as Perth goes, I didn't see any of that. Of course, he
seemed really fucking annoyed when he played 'good life' and the

On the topic of eurocheese, suffered through a half hour of an Ibiza infomercial
while trying to fall asleep in a hotel room a couple of weeks ago. Interspersed
with the footage of aesthetically crippled 20-somethings dancing and drugging
their year's worth of savings away were interviews with the various djs. To my
surprise, among the trance-meisters is none other than Chicago house legend,
Farley "Jackmaster" Funk!

Farley discusses his aspirations to take his seat on top of the dj heap, his
affection for trance, and then for seemingly no reason launches into a
uncomfortably long "Breakfast at Tiffany's" style impersonation of asian folk
(the announcer plays along).

On a different note, very glad to be in London this week. Kenny Larkin and
Richard H Kirk at the ICA, Jay Denham at some other spot (forget, but it's in
Timeout)...all Friday night!

(313) Solid Gold Playaz: Got'z Pimpin To Do - September Release on CHISEL!!!

1999-09-23 Thread ChiselMan

Catalog # CH 2003
Release DateOctober 1999
SOLID GOLD PLAYAZ
"GOT'Z PIMPIN' TO DO" EP

If you haven't heard of the Solid Gold Playaz by now, you better get ready.
They are gonna to take you inside their the world, and let you know what it
feels like to be an old school Playa with, "Got'z Pimpin' To Do", their debut
release on Chisel. With lots of percussion, originality, raw funky beats, and
unused samples, the Playaz are definitely setting new trends… From the old
skool.

Track number one is a Playaz Dream. Besides what's a Solid Gold party "If My
Homiez Can't Hang", and that's the title of this dope ass track. The track
starts out with a bare percussive intro, Solid Gold style, and then goes into
one their funkiest loops yet. This one sounds like it came straight from Long
Beach, fresh out of a Snoop Dogg video. And the loop just rides. And
occasionally breaks into "… leave your number on the table… and I promise
baby… I'll give you a call…" This is definitely an old school anthem, and the
shit is just so right, it will have you up and down! The loop rides and
rides, and then filters all the way down, so the bass just rumbles. That's
your break.

"Got'z Pimpin'…" is track number two. And it's a real get up track. The intro
is classic Solid Gold. A very percussive, swinging beat with a sample behind
it filtered all the way down. You can just feel the vibe growing with every
measure. Then the sample filters up, and builds while it changes to a jazzy
guitar rift that loops for a while. It goes through a couple of changes and
some nice slow filtering, until it filters all the way down, taking you with
it. Then that swinging ass percussion kicks you right in the face. It breaks
down to a naked break so all you old school jocks can mix out.

Number three is "Playaz Life". It also starts out with a really percussive
intro, Playaz style. Your body will be jacking to these rhythms. Then a funky
ass jazzy Fender Rhodes starts rolling a tight ass melody over those swinging
beats. It kinda makes you feel what it's like to be a playa for life. The
beat breaks down occasionally, with the loop just rolling on over. Next the
keys change up to a mellower roll, for pimping on the down low. Then that
funky ass melody comes back, like a customer on Friday. Then there are a few
more changes, and a nice repetitive loop that changes the melody a couple
more times… And then the break. Another totally percussive break you can ride
out on.

"The Flute Song (Pimpin' Ken RMX)", is the last track. And as usual the
Playaz have saved us some good shit for last. If you got the original you
know what's up. If you didn't, you are about to know. The intro is a Playa,
DJ friendly, bare intro… Then in break's into a "…stomp your feet to the
beat" sample that will get your crowd up and stomping their feet. Then it
rolls to a jacking ass flute sample, with some cool strings behind it, just
looping. And rolling on and on. It occasionally break's down to the "stomp
your feet" sample. Then goes right back to that tight ass flute sample.
There's a quick break down, that's nothing but drums, for those old skool
DJ's who want to get out of the track early. Or just fool your crowd into
thinking that you're getting out. Then the "stomp" sample again and the track
builds right back up! It rolls the flute sample for awhile, and breaks down
to the drums again for your outro.

Has Mills ever participated in this list? I've never seen him post

Also, I ordered "Live at the Liquid Room, Tokyo", "Purpose Maker", and

I would agree that it is cool to have "contact" with the people that put
out the music you like. But superstar shouldn't mean isolated. Maybe it
makes their entrances/exits more dramatic -- but save that shit for
'Inside Edition'. Superstars need to be more available to their fans. Or
perhaps when the fans learn that the superstars are (in some cases)
"normal , just like you and me" the fans get a *reality check* [bigtime!]
and give up their 900% idol worship bullshit.
