Sv: (313) Deep/Minimal Techno DJ's
I heard Doc play in Sweden a couple of years ago and I also did an interview with him. He was good at giving interviews but a pretty mediocre DJ. Unfortunately it seems that the only drum'n'bass DJ's who do trick-mixing and scratches and stuff all belong to the cheasier category. For instance, DJ Hype (True Playaz) is a great DJ but his taste in music stinks. Straight jump-up all the way. But I guess all that is off topic, so I'll shut up now :) Peace /rasmus > Given that this is 313, maybe start with Doc Scott, whose roots lie in > techno and is himself an ardent follower of Derrick May and Kevin > Saunderson. Given that this is 313, maybe start with Doc Scott, whose roots lie in techno and is himself an ardent follower of Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson. He is one of the leaders of the so-called 'tech-step' off-shoot of drum 'n' bass. Great DJ.
(313) Common Factor in Melbourne
Just got back from seeing Common Factor DJ at the Lounge in Melbourne... grrreat stuff! Good support from Spacey Space (Pole, Mainstreet, KDJ, Drexciya), Boogs (Isolee, Herbert and a small dose of breaks) and Voiteck/Boogs double-team (going crazy on 4 decks) after Common Factor finished his extended DJ set. I gotta say that Nick/Common Factor is a fine DJ who really knows his shit. A genuine mix of Detroit grooves and Chicago swing, throwing house and techno together to great effect. He has a 'head-down' DJ style... but really kept the floor moving with some sharp programming. He really knew his records too... letting most of his mixes time-out, before kicking the new track in smoothly. A real breath of fresh air! All this, plus I got to see Cyclone shake her $$$maker on the dance floor. :) Now all I wanna know is why wasn't he booked to play anywhere else in Australia??? peace ~Askew __ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Re: (313) New Garnier/Red Planet
>What do people think of this track 'The Man with the Red Face' off >Garnier's new album, 'Unreasonable Behaviour'? I read somewhere that it's >the finest piece of horn-driven hi-tech funk/jazz since 'Galaxy to >Galaxy' came outSounds a bit of an exaggeration. It's groovy, funky and organic - one of my favourite tracks on the album. It's the bugged-out sax that makes it. I don't know about the comparison to Galaxy To Galaxy, simply because making comparisons is always dubious! I think if anything I would (very loosely) compare Laurent's album to the Innerzone Orchestra's Programmed, as he is combining electronics and live music, trying to stretch the boundaries of what 'techno' can be, and showing the affinities between techno and jazz - especially on The Man With The Red Face. While we are on all things Gallic, why not check out the new I:Cube album, Adore? He has made a bid to differentiate himself from the French filtered disco phenom. Adore has a strong Detroit influence. I:Cube is a big fan of Carl Craig and he shares Carl's love of the idiosyncratic. Adore is kinda on the 'tech-house' tip but very eccentric and quirky. With this album he wanted to make something more "cinematic", to listen to at home, but I still think many of the tracks would sound great on the dancefloor.
