313 sets
Hi guys... The page with the 313 sets is down for a couple days. Actually, it went down last thursday and has not (to my knowledge) been up since. Apparently my isp has installed new routers in my area and i am not getting routed correctly. So, i am currently at their mercy, though i expect to see it back up by tomorrow. I'll let you all know when it is working properly again. Thanks for your patience... holly
Underground Resistance question
I'm writing a biographical piece on the group's music for my independant study and am curious about the early contributions by Jeff Mills and Robert Hood. A) when exactly did Mills stop collaborating with Banks? It sounds as though he was involved with the X-101 record (UR-013.5) but I'm guessing he left the group shortly after. I haven't heard many of the releases following X-101 except for MIA (UR-018) and Message to the Majors (UR-21) so it's hard for me to guess. B) was Hood ever that involved? He obviously was involved with the Gyroscopic record and I've heard rumors of him participating on the Riot record, but again I really don't have any idea about how involved he was after that. I'm going under the assumption that neither Mills nor Hood had anything to do with UR once they started Axis. It's hard to tell exactly when this was because so many of the UR records don't list a date. Any input would is appreciated. Thanks in advance, Jason

A fellow by the name of Steve Poindextor >especially. Yes! Maybe I should have clarified I meant besides Chicago, but I was feeling overzealous as DBX was pumping out of my monitors at the time. I didn't feel the need to mention this as an element of DB's output seems to be a reinterpretation or permutation of some of Chicago's source ideas (most notably SD's "Losing Control") - and anyway, most of his records were produced after a lot of Chicago's most memorable "track" output. Another example is how almost every genre of club music copied at least a part Basic Channel's style even though Basic Channel was reinterpreting and mutating dub. To extend this example, I would have put on a BC record, irrationally posted "who gave a shit about dark 7ths, near-subs and Space Echo before BC?" and gotten "Uhh... Tubby. Scratch." I'd say there is no argument about the worldwide RZ1 explosion happening post-DBX, not post-Poindexter, right? That's not a statement about either producer - it's a statement about the world noticing, digesting and copying a style. Yawn! Isabel Waidner - she has this dark, downtempo, jazzy track 'schlaflied' which I like very much, on 'the law&auder assembly' compilation. Check http://www.lawandauder.co.uk - in fact, I just looked there, goto http://www.lawandauder.co.uk/fots.htm for the 'female of the species', with short biogs. Sister still goes on usually monthly. They had a site which for the life of me I can't remember. Most of the Dj's are Drum n' Bass, afew deep house and my good buddy Forest Green actually plays Techno. They have been doing shows at smaller venues but are typically a lot of fun. Help w/Kelli Hand...
Odd request here. Mr. Duke? TP Alan... and anyone else who might have had personal contact with Kelli Hand... I need some input on her. I've found very limited information on the web. Nothing even seems to indicate how old she is -- there isn't a good biography of her anywhere, either. I have no clue what her musical background is or who it was [aside from a mention of Jeff Mills helping her start her label] who assisted her in establishing Acacia. There are some interviews in techno.de from Frontpage but alas, they are in German --> Babelfish can only do me so much good, you know? I am interested in any opinions, perspectives... thoughts on her production technique... how she is perceived. I need this information for a paper I am writing for my women's studies class. So... if anyone has $0.02 to share... or who might be able to help me out with a biography or something about Ms. Hand, I'd appreciate it muchly. Not that he doesn't deserve any credit for his early work but the question I have is, 'What has Mayday done lately?'. I'm sure he's is actively involved with music but there are other Detroit artist who are obviously active and involved with breaking new musical ground. Right. Drum and bass DJ 187 and I think ambient producer Terre Thaemlitz also identify as transgender. Woman-born-women coming to mind: Heather Hart and Neotropic (Riz Maslan--sp?--or Fish Without Spine). Interesting that both of them have (or had) more well-known male partners. 2 that you haven't mentioned that come to mind at the moment are: Ursula Rucker - with King Britt most recently on Guidance, she's done other things with KB on Ovum as well. Mistress Barbara - recently on Christian Smith's Tronic (pretty solid bangin' techno). I think there's a little biography of her on the Tronic website 'www.tronicmusic.com'. I'll add more when I go home and have a look, sorry terrible memory!!! Cheers a-plently to one and all, Niall. ...oh I've just remebered Miss DJax, head of the all the DJax labels, former record shop owner and DJ in her own right. came out on tresor in 93, titled 'magic', i think. it's a double pack that was recently re-released. it's a mix of 'the cosmic courier' (which is also included on the tresor release) done with moritz van oswald (that's maurizio, isn't it?). yet another mix is found on the flipside of 'jazz is the teacher' on metroplex. it's a great track. similar in spirit, and quality, to octave one's 'eniac'. james "Ethan Joseph Fraley" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> on 04/25/2000 08:02:21 PM To: 313@hyperreal.org cc:(bcc: James Bucknell/Magazines/Hearst) Subject: (313) 3MB w/Juan Atkins info I heard on spinner.com a track by 3MB featuring Juan Atkins called "Die Kosmschen Kuriere". Hi guys. Am having an impossible time finding "From the 21st". If anyone is interested in trading a CD-R copy of "lifelike" [provided by yours truly] for a copy of "From the 21st"... that'd be pretty nice indeed. (313) Closer: Musik (Kompakt)
Closer: Musik (Kompakt 016) If anyone comes across a copy of this (excellent) record, check out A2 track '2 The Beat 2 The Rock', a mad interpretation of Kevin Saunderson's 'Rock To The Beat'. Worth a listen without no doubt. Incidentally, Closer are not to be confused with old Herdest Cummings aka THE Closer, last seen on, strangely enough, KMS. Gosh, it's just a whirl of coincidence, innit? np: CiM: Warm Data (Focus) again
test (ignore please)
