festivals & clubs & rules
greetings from istanbul we had Derrick May in our town last week at a festival him, dj q, kevin sounderson, paperclip live feat. carl craig and some others were also here.. it was a massive one.. the bad thing is that a little while after Mayday was behind the decks at 04:25 AM , the police came in the festival area, and stopped the party.. the festiva lwas inside the town but in a place kinda like a Park, just like Central Park in NYC actually, so the local crowd was kinda angry infact... i know this is kinda off-topic, and its not a good message to post for somelike who is very new to your group like me but: do you have such stuff in your country or town? police entering the party area and searching people, by the way clubs are open only until 04:00 AM in istanbul turgan

Re: [313] Juan Atkins and KORG
I like how it says, "Juan, who spins Acid House Detroit Techno", Juan was never fond of being put in the Acid House bin, he once told me that he plays house not Acid House. Funny. - Original Message - From: "stephen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <313@hyperreal.org> Sent: Saturday, July 08, 2000 7:49 AM Subject: [313] Juan Atkins and KORG > Looks like Korg has endorsed Juan Atkins, shows a pic of him in his > studio in California, he talks about his Korg gear. > Go to Korg web site for the article www.korg.com > or here's a direct link > http://www.korg.com/sbytes/article.asp?ArtistID=10 >
Juan Atkins and KORG
Looks like Korg has endorsed Juan Atkins, shows a pic of him in his studio in California, he talks about his Korg gear. Go to Korg web site for the article www.korg.com or here's a direct link http://www.korg.com/sbytes/article.asp?ArtistID=10 There's also a short article on Juan Atkins talking about Korg in The Musicians Planet Magazine, a promotional advertisement publication from Mars Music that I got in the mail. www.marsmusic.com its in the Gear Gigs section p.9 by Greg Grant, ...Also bolstering the Korg roster is DJ Hero Juan Atkins, who combines street-level funk with electronic-pop featuring rhythmic elements from contemporary dance. Atkins uses many of Korg's new dance-oriented products to create his house style, including the Kaoss Pad Dynamic Effect/Controller, the Electribe synths, and the Triton Series Music Workstation/Sampler. Says Atkins of the Kaoss Pad, "This machine keeps your effects processing very non-linear and spontaneous, wich is an essential element in producing electronic/techno music.". Speaking of Korg, Like A Tim a.k.a.Tim Van Leijden makes good use of the Electribes on his new album on Rephlex 'Red And Blue Boxing.' (maybe Juan Atkins should do a little collaborating with Like A Tim on his next M-500 album, just kidding) There are some MP3's you can ckeck out at his web site: http://home.hetnet.nl/~probeergratis/index.html Also go to the Rephlex site for RA files: http://www.rephlex.com/futurereleases.htm Some of the tracks off the album remind me of electronic music pioneer/ inventor Raymond Scotts work from the 50's and 60's. Go to his web site and check out the vintage electronic studio picts, they are amazing. There's also MP3 files of his work. http://RaymondScott.com/mripr.html stephen.
Re: [313] Claude Young
I was only using Claude Young as an example But since you asked I thought his new one on Deta was alright, I'm more of a fan of his classic stuff like Brother From Another Planet but that goes for a lot of the Detroit techno artist nowdays The Pattern Buffer series on DJAX is not my style. stephen. Re: [313] Idea, Solution to Question? blablabla...
FRED MCMURRY wrote: > Now, Stephen, ask yourself what you're doing besides complaining about > "trendy" people and your implication of their monopoly over the topics? I was giving an explanation to a question as to why certain "trends" on 313 are easily followed while others are ignored. I also stated my opinion on the discussion of promo material. You seem to be confused about some of my sarcastic comments that were not intended to be taken literal. > again from the 313 site > 1) the list administrator does not maintain the list, "313 content is >> not > moderated and never will be" that's from the first page of the 313 > site, That's why the 313-list is in the state it is in. > "Complaining about trash in our streets only makes sense if you have >>> made > an effort to pick that trash up." Well for starters I would like to see a more practical use for 313, maybe a search engine for the 313 list archives. This would give people greater access to information that has already been covered on the list also would be helpful for new people who need to do research. Another good idea is to have a volunteer compile a weekly list of new 313 releases that will be posted on the list for review and discussion. I realize this probably isn't possible though. Thats all I got to say about this particular subject matter because I'm a busy person short on time, hope this clarifies any misunderstandings. stephen.

Axis 20 (apologies)
Well, after my somewhat harsh comment evoking some replies likewise, i'd like to point out (in the harsh light of morning) that 1: I didn't know that the copy i've got is limited , 2: It probably isn't up to Jeff to set the prices of his releases & 3) It's great music anyway (espicially 1st thing in the morning. I suppose i was just a tad overwhelmed by the price, and felt i needed to vent my spleen about it. Anyway, i'm off to the Love parade for a few hours after work today (the leeds one anyway) to have a little shimmy, if i can find wherever Derrick Carter's playing My Bad, -- Tom Lawton
