Fluxion from Chain Reaction
Can anyone point me to even the slightest bit of info regarding K. Sublis, the individual behind the Fluxion records on Chain Reaction? Primarily, I trying to figure out his/her first name, and city/country of residence. I'm doing my best to piece together a short bio. Thanks, Jason Birchmeier Editor All Music Guide http://allmusic.com 734-887-5600x186
Richie's party
The Minus crew threw a nice party last night at a small club on the corner of Rosa Parks and Mich. Ave, right next to the old Tiger stadium. For the front room, they hung parachutes from the ceiling and walls, using green lights to create a lighting motif, while an assortment of TVs broadcast Richie from the backroom. After fighting through the tight hallway leading to the back room, one walked into a room filled with darkness and occasionally flashing white lights. At the side of the room was Richie's set-up, accentuated by some red lights. As one may imagine, it was extremely hot inside the party, due primarily to the overcapacity crowd. Almost everyone was drenched with sweat, and to make things worse they wouldn't let anyone outside. Didn't dance as much as I thought I would. When the dance floor is so crowded that you can barely raise your hands above your hips without touching the person two inches in front of you, it's kind of hard to dance much. People were dancing, but it was mostly body-jacking and head-bobbing. Couldn't really move your feet or your hands with that many people crammed inside. I was a bit disappointed to see Richie spend so long on each track. He let most records play out, focusing most of his efforts on the mixer and his EFX rather than digging through his crate for the next record. Reminded me somewhat of a Global Underground (trance/prog house) set, where the DJ will give a record five to seven minutes, letting the fluxuations in sound compensate for a lack of mixing. In a way, the heavy use of the mixer and his EFX worked well. There wasn't a track on the decks that didn't get the Hawtin treatment, which usually involved at least one sort of anticipatory build-up. And that 909... Man, that thing can drive a person insane! He would just program in these really tweaked out loops and let them cycle for minutes on end, until you almost want to scream from massive disorientation. At times, I almost thought of his party as a battle, with Richie challenging people to try to stay on the dance floor as long as possible. This was hard. Between the insane temperatures, over-crowdedness, hallucinatory lighting, and intense music, it really took some stamina and motivation to remain on the dance floor for extended periods of time. The lounge room was almost as cool as the dance floor, with lots of great people (kind of a who's who of Detroit's techno camp) and lots of conversation. Made me think of Richie as an Andy Warhol sort of figure with his parties as a mobile Factory. Seems like a lot of people come more for the parties than for his music. And who can blame them; the parties are done with such class and professionalism, attracting an elite camp of people, while his music seems to be crossing the line towards near-intolerance. ...if this was just a one-off party, I'm really looking forward to the Plus 8 party. Tong's >section on the BBC Radio One site lists it as 430 West/UR but IIRC, the 430 >West CD release didn't have the May mix? AFAIK, Jaguar is getting a domestic release in the UK sometimes soon, and all the info i've seen on the matter seems to point towards a 430 West release. It also looks to be a domestic release of the "Revenge Of The Jaguar" that came out earlier this year, with having the Mills, 430 West & Mad mike remixes. There's no hint on Derrick's mix, but perhaps it might be a "Bonus" type mix situation. >Looks like _Jaguar_ could be UK chart bound. RE: [313] Message to the majors?
Yeah, I'm in the UK... here is a scan of the Jaguar promo cover: http://www.abstract-digital.com/jaguar.gif Unfortunately there was no PR sheet, just the CDR... I have found out more details now and the picture is a bit clearer - we received another promo CDR today with just the original version of Jaguar & the cover had 430west printed on it. It seems that 3MV will be handling the marketing and distribution of this new issue in the UK... Jaguar rocked Sancho Panza @ carnival!
Re: [313] reviews
is that first song titled in reference to Omar the UK singer
Radio Helsinki & I-F
Not sure if any finlander has already advertised this, but there should be I-F's live gig from Helsinki Turbo happening broadcasted via Radio Helsinki: http://www.radiohelsinki.net It's a temporary station (couple weeks) that broadcasts all kinds of interesting stuff. Jori Hulkkonen's gig should be there, some HIP HOP and stuff by Didier & Anonymous. Also Eliot Ness' mixes every day should include some older techno from the 90's, or so I'm told. Don't be surprised by the ROCK'N'ROLL progs every now and then, it's not all techno there!!! Proffit _ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. reviews
Hi - haven't posted to the list for a long time but thought it was about time for some reviews. There's a bit of a West London/breakbeat/jazz slant to these, but I know a lot of you are into this sound so here goes... Domu - Message To Omar (Archive) Deep and futuristic breakbeat from Reinforced's Sonar Circle man. Following his breathtaking 12" on 2000 Black last year, and preceding a 12" for Total Science's Skindeep imprint, this is a three-tracker of dark electronic jazz with superior arrangement and awesome programming. The title track is the strongest, with a smokey hip-hop vibe. Nubian Mindz - New World Chaos (Archive) The debut album from Colin Lindo, who (along with what seems like most of Archive's artists) also records drum & bass for Reinforced as Alpha Omega. Anyone who's heard any of the previous Nubian output will know what to expect - a Detroit-flavoured fusion of electro, techno, drum & bass and funk with crisp programmed breaks, atmospheric strings and plenty of dark jungle fx. The tracks on offer range from UR-style string-led electro-techno to percussive hardcore. Check. Pariss Clemons - Black Mary (2000 Black) Something of a departure from most of the previous 2000 Black output, this is simply a beatiful downbeat song with a stripped-down acoustic arrangement. Timeless feel-good late-night soul music. Nice. Pavek Kostiuk & Guests - Brand New Day (2000 Black) Back on the future jazz tip, this is Dego and friends with another strong vocal tune. Vanessa Freeman, on singing duties, drives the track with tons of feeling, and Dego's hybrid electronic/acoustic breaks & rhodes backing complements it perfectly. Murky Waters - Check Yourself (Main Squeeze) IG Culture and co with an unusual and very musical track. The usual IG combination of awesome percussion and sweet live playing works its usual magic. Can't decide which mix I prefer, but the original vocal is getting the most rotation right now. Jessica Lauren - The Name of Fela Will Always Stand For Freedom (People) Lovely 10" that's been around for a few weeks. Driven by a deceptively simple acoustic piano hook which for some some reason reminds me of Brubeck's 'Take Five', this is something of an Afrobeat tribute from this talented keyboard player. Also look out for her work with Mustang on various projects. Tony Allen vs Son of Scientist - The Drum (Comet) IG Culture again transforms this African percussion workout into a fresher than fresh dancefloor killer, weaving percussion influences from all over the world and locking everything down into a serious head-nodder. Absolutely superb playing and arrangement - heavy fresh funk. Nahawa Doumbia - Fatien [IG Culture remix] (Frikyiwa) Yet again IG delivers the goods with the sort of music that makes me want to give up. Delicate keys are offset with fantastic African percussion and restrained 'ethnic' vocals. A late-night smoker's record that would also rock in the right setting. Plutonia - Forever (Visions) Alex 'Mustang' Attias and 4 Hero's Dego collaborate with awesome results. Hectic breaks, Detroit-style synths, smooth strings and heavenly vocals, underpinned by a powerful bassline. Sweet. Heath Brunner - Senses (KMS) Classy Detroit techno with that warm analogue feel. 'Senses' is a subtly building, pacy track with Mad Mike-style chords and tight 808s powering it along. Tough but soulful, like all the best stuff. Detroit Escalator Company - PF096 / PF099 (Peacefrog) Two doublepacks which I managed to score on test pressing a few weeks ago due to a serendipitous bit of timing in Atlas. First up is a double 10" of brand new material, second is a double LP which is essentially a repress of the long-deleted 'Soundtrack 313' album on Ferox. If you've heard Olliviera's work before you'll know what to expect - impossibly beautiful, melodic electronica. Quality. Cheers, Tom

how does that work??? I don't understand sounds really silly
K.Hand 313 Update-For those who should know
We apoligize... K.Hand's DJ confirmation dates will no longer be listed on the acacia/worlddj site due to some so-called Professional DJ's (who book their own gigs), try to book their gig on the same night in the same City, Country or Club as K.Hand events, except in DETROIT. (We wonder why). Feel free to contact us directly for K.Hand's upcoming events @ 313 785 7790. We noticed it a couple years ago. But finally decided to put the word out. Now, these pions can just wait until they find a flyer with K.Hand name on it, or just run up there phone bill, and email time trying to see when and where she is being booked. Ha ha.. (For Promoters, Club Owners and Booking Agents who haven't became aware yet). Beware of any DJ who is trying to book a gig in your City, Country or Club on the same night as K.Hand. We figure, By the time she is confirmed at a venue, the culprit is at work. And sometimes before hand. It's time they find something else to do with their LIfe. Stay underground. Re: [313] Message to the majors?
I don't know the real deal here, call me a cynic but... is pepsi better than coke? nike over reebok? a major is a major and to get to where they are they've got an agenda and that doesn't include the message in the music. that some ppl think the track transcends scenes means they r already thinking in those kinda terms. making money is funky and i'd not decline universal's help if i was going up against sony, helps to have a organisation who thinks in the same way on your side. but they do think the same. funk, emma mee-thod -it's in the way that you groove it-

Derrick's remix of Jaguar, UR remix of Expo 2K, yowza! I want to put in a good word here, by the way, for the new L.A. Williams release on Chisel, "This Is a Test." I'm also liking the Audio Distractions ep from D-Version Records in Ferndale, with a couple pretty good Cari Lekebusch cuts and one each by Gene Hunt and Wilhelm K. I may have missed previous mentions of this; what's the story on D-Version? phred
