You have the rarest one - number 1.
Daniel's album to be released on Environ next February will have the
classic track "Let's Go To Mars" on it, but for the rest you'll have to
hunt the stuff down.

I think all the back catalog was repressed in limited quantities for
Manhattan Records in Tokyo...so if you can track them down and feel like
spending loot, maybe that's the answer.

"why d´ya fall" is a very old chicago techno classic I think it was on a
b.-side of "I called You" single from his most famous album (the hit was the
"french kiss" track) at this time it was probably too hard for a proper
smash release but there was 2 wellknown cover versions: "Club MCM" on Rhythm
beat records and DJ Funk "Run" both of them are now classic techno tracks.
Now someone from UK (I dont know any details, this is a rumour) made a
bootleg release with only this track under cover name "white falls". there
is no other info on the record (because I think its an illegal bootleg
pressing)...I just picked up the last of 5 copies here at a local
recordstore.
There was the other classic lil louis track "black out" re-released last
year on ffrr records (which is the original label where it came out) but I
think this was also pressed without the artist permission and only available
in very limited quantities. I bought that one in Australia...well I am
hunting them around the planet :-)

1. Jeff Mills - Revolt, Tresor
2. Christian Bloch - Deep Night 01, DN
3. Steve Bicknell - Lost, Cosmic 23
4. Grind Attack - Techno space, Explicit 01
5. The Advent - Sketches Part 3, Tresor
6. Planetary Assault systems - Coad Warrior, Peacefrog
7. Percy X - Gain LP, Soma

Re: [313] Opinions..

2000-11-07 Thread Cyclone Wehner

I was talking to someone from Edinburgh just the other day who told me a few
venues in Glasgow are closing down?? They pointed to the influence of
England's media. I think press culture has a role in this - and radio. The
fact that the UK is swayed by Radio One and big glossy magazines promotes
uniformity and commercialism. That's why a diversity of small stations and
street papers is vital. There is talk of a national dance mag starting in
Australia - based in Sydney and run by UK publishers - and I fear this will
mean that our diversity will be compromised. It's very hard to convince
English industry types (esp those aligned with large clubs) that each
country has its own unique make-up and that other scenes are not merely
small, backward models of theirs. They just come here and see what they want
to see. Very few industry types in Sydney have a clue about techno (it is
very subcultural there, I think other Sydney guys on this list would agree,
this is why we should send Christmas cards to Southern Outpost, Fuzzy, etc,
for keeping it real!!) so if a magazine came out of there you could bet that
people we care about in Melbourne or Adelaide or Perth or Sydney's
underground would have to conform. Thank God also that the Sydney street
press still covers techno and at least gives people the option of finding
out about it, a Sydney glossy won't do the same. Any one see that letter
written by Sydney's Ministry of Sound boys in 7 in which they refuted that
Ben Sims was popular in Australia with the rather embarassing "who the hell
is Ben Sims?" Nice guys who just have to do their homework. Like they didn't
have an inkling that Sims was a drawcard in cities like Melbourne. It was
really funny to us but was more Sydney-centricism/UK-centricism than
ignorance. They just know flossy players like Judge Jules, Nick Warren, Dave
Seaman, etc.

I got Little Green Lights and Four Inch Faders a while ago and despite the
fact theat it was pretty well-recieved and said in some quarters to be

In most elections there is a stronger party-but this is one year where a

so on are, please vote. The reason there is emphasis on this election is
because most (if not all) of congress-like senate-is up and the supreme

I feel the same about Glasgow (Scotland) in many respects ... though I have
never experienced Detroit (I plan to), among all the other cities I have
visited I have to say the city had by far the best 'underground' vibe I have
ever seen ... I struggle to find nightlife anywhere as good, even in San
Francisco where I find myself these days.

in particular, the axis around jamaica street has to be one of the coolest
square miles on earth, with the arches, the (temporarily burned down) sub
and rub-a-dub records all providing food for the techno loving soul.

It may be cliche, but I witnessed some of the finest musical moments in my
life there - i'll never forget my first night at the arches - I had never
really been exposed to the music before, but I was blown away totally and
completely .. it converted me wholesale into the unredeemable techno junkie
I am today!

now that i'm away I realise how spoiled I was ... i assume it's rare to be
into detroit and have a big dilemma because there are too many great djs
playing in different venues in one night.

I remember the thread about UK techno a while back and noticed this never
got any further north than Sheffield, which is a shame. If you are on this
list, are in the UK, and haven't been there, you should catch it while you
can. hey, UR bothered to drop in to nearby Paisely for a visit so theres a
name dropped for 'ya.

anyway, sorry bout the misty eyed rambling there! maybe i've even got rose
tinted specs on...!

i'm wondering if there are any similar meccas outside of berlin, detroit,
etc. Is there a second Techno City of America?

What factors motivate you to go out...what are the hooks,
lines and sinkers...?

I have only recently begun to truly appreciate Detroit. I can't quite
verbalize it, but every time I travel in the US, I just feel as if other
cities are missing that unique Detroit edge that I have learned to love. It
is not the underground music mecca it used to be, nor is it mega club
central, but there are some beautiful things about Detroit...

1.) Motor- Sometimes I just take it for granted, but we get some great
talent there. This week I get to see Laurent Garnier. Later on this month
Carl Craig, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson, and in December Rob Hood. I
have witnessed some wonderful musical moments at Motor

2.) This past weekend I checked out Rhytmn Cafe for the first time. I got to
hear some good music in a relaxed warm atmosphere. And it's downtown
Detroit :)

3.) The occasional incredible eventright now 2 stick our for me this
year.
a. DEMF
b. the Rich Hawtin u1 party in September where I got to here almost 8
straight hours of Richie Hawtin in a small room of less than 300.

Yes, Detroit is missing some of the ambition it once had, and yes driving
around downtown is a sorry sight, but I have faith Detroit will evolve and
continue to innovate, create, and produce some incredible music.

Larry Heard Archive & News

2000-11-07 Thread JavierDrada
Larry Heard News:

Up now Larry Heard Session 3.1 and 3.2 at http://www.undergroundcommittee.com

If you have not experienced the Legend, now is the time. Brand new mixes by
none other than the man himself, Larry Heard founder and
owner of Alleviated Records & Music.

 Also,

Alleviated Records has recently reactivated and is now being distributed by the
Brooklyn based label Track Mode Recordings.
Alleviated is proud to announce a proper release schedule with old and new
titles soon to be available! One of which Alleviated is
proud to present , the "Symbiosis" EP from Chicago Producer/DJ, Bernard Badie.
Bernard is back, with an Ep that every DJ enthusiast
of "Deep House" music would want to have. At least one copy of this piece
should be a part of any comprehensive collection. Bernard
teamed up with a couple of friends, Joe Hall and Clara McElroy on a tune
called, "Oxygen", a really DEEP selection with 2 mixes for
your DJing, listening, and dancing pleasure. The track is very reminiscent of
"OLD SCHOOL" selections from the "Windy City" Chicago.
The original underground version is a bit more DJ freindly with a driving flow
and raw beats. Underground party atmospheres will be
the perfect place to put the needle on the groove (Hint!). With Club and Chart
hits like, "What About Love?" and "Shine" (to name
just a couple), the label Alleviated Records played a foundational role in the
development of the Dance Music scene that we
currently enjoy. There is a lot of history behind this imprint. The future
seems to be even brighter at this point.

Track Listing:

Side A:
1. Oxygen [5:38]

Side B:
1. Oxygen (Original Underground Version) [5:28]
2. Move To The Beat [5:16]

To tomorrow..
The transition from First Wave to Second Wave
civilization was one long blood-drenched drama of wars, revolts,
famines, forced migrations, coups detat, and calamities. Today
the stakes are much higher, the time shorter, the acceleration
faster, the dangers even greater.

Much depends on the flexibility and intelligence of todays
elites, sub-elites and super-elites. If these groups prove to be as
short-sighted, unimaginative, and frightened as most ruling
groups in the past, they will rigidly resist the Third Wave and
thereby escalate the risks of violence and their own destruction.
If, by contrast, they flow with the Third wave, if they recog-
nize the need for a broadened democracy, they In fact can join in
the process of creating a Third Wave civilization, just as the most
intelligent First Wave elites anticipated the coming of a technologically
based industrial society and joined in its creation.

Most of us know, or sense, how dangerous a world we live in.
We know that social instability and political uncertainties can
unleash savage energies. We know what war and economic cata-
clysm mean, and we remember how often totalitarianism has
sprung from noble intentions and social breakdown. What most
people seem to ignore, however, are the positive differences be-
tween present and past.

Circumstances differ from country to country, but never in
history have there been so many reasonably educated people, col-
lectively armed with so incredible a range of knowledge. Never
have so many enjoyed so high a level affluence, precarious
perhaps, yet ample enough to allow them time and energy for
civic concern and action. Never have so many been able to travel,
to communicate, and to learn so much from other cultures. Above
all, never have so many had so much to gain by guaranteeing that
the necessary changes, though profound, be made peacefully.
Elites, no matter how enlightened, cannot by themselves make
a new civilization. The energies of whole peoples will be required.
But those energies are available, waiting to be tapped. Indeed if
we, particularly in the high-technology countries, took as our
explicit goal for the next generation the creation of wholly new
institutions and constitutions, we could release something far
more powerful than energy: the collective imagination.
The sooner we begin to design alternative political institutions
based on the three principles described above minority power,

definitely one of the best live sets that i've heard him put

quiet studio at 11am SF time, for 20,000 Expo attendees at 8pm in
germany

technology is cool.

Howdy folks,

I'm going to be in San Fran all next week on business
and I was hoping some of y'all might point me in the
direction of some good techno. I know of 1015 Folsom,
but that's about it. You can reply to me privately if
you'd like to avoid list clutter.

Thanks!

Re: [313] Opinions..

2000-11-07 Thread Rachael Stiegel
