Re: [313] DEMF Day 2
First off about Saturday night: I'm curious why noone showed up for Ken Ishii. The Guy ripped up 3 turntables like it was nobodies business. I was more than impressed. On to sunday. John's Set was pretty good. Naturally, i walked into the bowl when he pulled up front 242's headhunter, and of course i went wild. Does he play that track EVERY time he plays? Laurent's set for me was nothing short of Amazing. He dj'ed a bit, but stopped doing that altogether after he got PISSED about the slipmats (they didn't feel right to him). The live material was fantastic. He personified True Musicianship for me. going over to the Motor stage afterward to see kenny just didn't feel "right" for twenty minutes. It was good to see him voice his opinion about Carl right in front of Carol marvin. We went to the mark farina after party. Steven Sacks really impressed me. Normally he plays a much deeper still of house, and since he was in a bigger venue, he played some harder, more tribal house. fantastic Set. Farina was ok. He started off really smooth, and then moved into some techier material. They crowd really responded to it, but he just let that energy level fall, and i felt he didn't get it back again. Everyone enjoyed themselves. umm, yeah. _ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [313] soundhack/soundstream
I had the first two releases mailed to me from a friend in Koln. I believe they were Hardwax only releases, so you have to go through them. www.hardwax.com They have the first two Soundhacks and the first release on Soundstream in their catalogue of D Labels. Anyone going to check out the Substance/Soundhack/Safety Scissors show tonight in Detroit? I'd love to hear a review of that as I had to come home to hand in an assignment. [313] DEMF Day 2
Sunday was a bit of a letdown for me at the festival. Only Todd Sines (live) and Kenny Larking (DJing) really did it for me. Both Strand & Shake and Titonton Duvante's group are stretching the boundaries, and that's good to see, but the music didn't really jell for me anyway. John Acquaviva played good tracks (of course) but like a lot of main stage acts it seems hard to get into the flow with that big of a crowd. I did like Shari Vari of course :) And right at the moment I'm voting in favor of banning microphones on the main stage. If I hear "Detroit, make some noise" one more time, why I oughta . . . Had a very good time after midnight, though. The 430 West party was sparsely attended, and all I can say is y'all missed a stellar live performance for over an hour by Wild Planet (Simon Hartley from Sweden), and also Mike Huckaby reaching back to the beginning with some acid house that sounded great in the Johanson Gallery. Then I went over to the Teknotika party not too far away, and Gary Martin played a really top-notch set, plus the vibe for once lived up to that chant, "Ain't no party like a Detroit party 'cause a Detroit party don't stop!" The weather seems to be improving a little, so I imagine the crowds will be unbelievable for the finale today. It was amazing how crowded it was even at 4 pm yesterday during Johnny Q's set. phred - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[313] demf sets
Just a few wordsI'm pleasantly surprised at the quality of most of the live sets here this year. I was blown away by Todd Sines - yow!! Maersk was very nice; Thad Mullinex (sp?) was great. (since I don't want to get back into an Ae thread, I'll leave that comment out :-). Nice experimantal/IDM count this year indeed - the addition of Kit Clayton didn't hurt anything either :-) Although I wanted to comment more on the idm side of things, I have to say that Titonton Duvante's set was stellar - as was Shake's. Too bad there were so many sound sanfus for Strand as what I could hear sounded real nice. Looking forward to more today. I think one of the hardest things here is being entranced by a set (whether spun or live - or both!) and realizing that there's someone a hundred or so yards away you really want to see whom you might not get to see again. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Then commenced the afterparty circuit, starting with the Camillian Cafe (300 Monroe at Randolph) which is actually a very nice coffee place. I missed Gerald (Matrix) who played around 7, but Dwayne Jensen and Mike Clark were heating it up when I stopped in around 11. He played a white label of a new vocal track, and his singer was there but with no microphone all she could do was a lip-sync to her vocal, but she definitely put some serious diva energy into it :) It's quite cool to see Detroit house making a big comeback; I talked with D-Ha (Derwin Hall) later at the MI party, he's coming out with some new ones shortly after a long break. I ended up at the camillian tonight (just got back), as i'm too physically exhausted after two days of demfing to dance (or even walk) properly (otherwise i'd have ended up at the UR-lookin thing across the street) what a cool place! i'd never been there before, but we decided to stop in there and I can't think of a more chilled out place to spend a few hours.Tasty food, groovin house sorry: a) my somewhat sleep-deprived incoherency b) those not at demf here's to hoping i don't go to sleep to find myself waking up at midnight tomorrow, -j - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The style of the tracks is quite hard to describe. They're really overtly dancefloor oriented, but have quite complex sounds and rhythms going on: stuff I associate more with clicky homelistening tracks. Can someone else describe them? there was an article about soundstream/soundhack in de:bug magazine #32 which you can find here: http://195.125.165.253/cgi-bin/debug.pl?what=show&part=texte&ID=1146 - unfortunately it's german only. i read reviews that described the music as "cut-up hyperfunk" which comes really close :) here are two short realaudio clips of sound stream 01: http://www.circonium.de/favourites/ (march 2001 section) ines --- Giles Dickerson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Where did you find these ? > > // giles > > lo sens wrote: > > > Hi > > > > I've just recently got hold of the 3 soundhack / > > soundstream releases: amazing genre-defying tracks > > that really hit a dancefloor hard. [313] webcast & irc
Listening to Garnier's set via webcast. A shame that the video doesn't work with Opera, and too bad that they've got only one stage covered but I hope that there are enough of reporters running around with your cameras, recorders and other equipment so that we'll be able to enjoy it later on. It just came into my mind that a meeting in irc could be nice idea since so many of the list members won't be able to be there live. I guess most of you in US who are into irc use efnet's irc, or at least somebody's created a #313 there http://www.elektroshock.com/webring/irc.html And a server list can be found at http://www.irchelp.org/irchelp/networks/efnet.txt I won't be hanging there through the day, though. :) J -- Jussi Lehtonen [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.netppl.fi/~sandman "Do not allow yourself to be programmed.
