This is *far* from off-topic, in my opinion. I've said it before
and I'll say it again now - Trent Abbe is a great DJ, and is
one of my inspirations. He's guaranteed to drop great music,
lots of it (313) originated or influenced.

If you're in or near Lansing, go see him!

Hope this helps.

hi. i wander if there is people making old school melodic techno. the
kind of techno i like is the early 90's releases. i wander for
exemple, if "Icon" would make the same sucses if it was released
today. i start with producing some months ago and all my tracks are
deeple infuencied by the early 90's music.
can some one tell me about any artist making music in this way today?
sometimes i just dont know if this kind of techno still have its
place on the turntables arround the wolrd. i really hope so.

[313] Marco Carola

2001-08-10 Thread M Elliot-Knight
I just had a listen to the new Marco Carola "Open System" (rlease date is in
October) and was quite surprised by the sound. I was expecting the typical
hard tribal loops of that label but instead got an earful of some cool
electro and tech-house. Lots of it was strictly for listening. Out of
fourteen tracks there are only about four or five that are loopy techno but
seemed closer to the deep stuff on Kanzleramt. I'll recommend this for
anyone that likes their electro on the techno-y side.

I feel sort of funny posting about this event since I was the headliner
and I have a bit of a skewed view and since non of the faceless people
[andrew or cory] are on this list I will give my 2 cents:
The event went off well from what I could tell the attendence was very
good from what I was told they went way over capasity for the venue.
DM played an awesome opening dj set or early minimal techno with a
special
surprise appearence by kiro during his set, the two did a live pa dj tag
team set for about 40
mins good crunchy minimal techno and slow brooding beats Jamming
Signal were ok, sort of hit and miss with thier pa no real direction in
terms of style other then it was chaotic and noisy, Jakob
Thisen was amazing mircosound meets bleepy minimal beats! Vivid
Soundscapes were also pretty good from what
I could tell but then again Im not an expert on hardcore but from a
technical point of view it sounded good. ether.mann's dj set was on the
mark as per usual solid minimal glichy techno... as for my live pa as naw,
It was my per usual signature dubby glitchy minimal techno sort of deal
other then that its hard to comment as to what it was like as an
audence member but
I enjoyed my pa got the crowd moving, the audience feedback was great. I
had a few problems with my software acting up (but thats what you get when
you build your own apps) my set consited of a laptop performance using a
max/msp patch built which was a mod of kit claytons slooptechker patch.
I would say it was not one of my better live pas but that was a result of
a few minor plug in crashes during my set, which were only noticable to
me I guess or people would have hated it I guess...
As for the rest of the night the visuals were great it was set up to look
like a protest at the g8 ssummit
fenced in entrence and all... :)
great visuals over all good energy and it was generally a pleasure to come
in from Toronto to play for this event. Im looking forward to playig in
your town some time soon again :)

Re: [313] New Hip Hop + New Soul/Muzak

2001-08-10 Thread miss lauryn g
geez...calm down.

i'm sure your job is a lot more fun than mine is and whatnot. i am fully
aware that location has a lot to do with what i am hearing. i'm not
stupid. i didn't necessarily mean to say "crap like Muzak"...i was more
meaning something along the line that it's managed to slither it's way
into regular play in places like the mall or whatever. :P something like
that. i'm not insulting you or insulting your job. i just was commenting
on the growing popularity of 2step garage.

if i walked into a store and heard cologne style techno, i would probably
keel over dead if i was here in the states. i think the most i have heard
on muzak really that i have found intriguing was hearing some old house
tracks while at taco hell. perhaps that is most generally because i either
A) don't pay attention to the music consciously because it's not why i am
where i am at. or B) i just don't go out to the right places. ;) whatever.
considering the fact i live in cincinnati, ohio, i really doubt i would
get to hear the more interesting (to me at least) side of Muzak
engineering. it's great and all that you do put a lot of work into doing
your job and that you love it and whatnot and that you ran the D
records/plus 8 booth or whatever. just don't get irate with me when i was
just making a general comment about something that really, quite honestly
wasn't meaning to personally insult. it actually sounds like an
interesting job and soundtracking a shopping experience is pretty cool.
always found it interesting about how stores and shops would try to target
a certain crowd by their atmospherics (sound, lighting, smells even) and
get them to purchase more.

at any rate, no insult was meant...so please chill. :)

Re: [313] rotterdam's duplex - heroes of detroit?!!!!

2001-08-10 Thread sound
yeah, but they're not really easy to find
ep 3, 4 and 5 are Clone
but 1 and 2 are on Dub
i don't have them anymore (so they couldn't have been THAT good, ha), but if
i remember correctly they were both 10"s and the tracks were mediocre

RE: [313] rotterdam's duplex - heroes of detroit?!!!!

2001-08-10 Thread Jongsma, K.J.
They are in the same style as thier later records. EP1 and EP2 are released
on Djak Up Bitch (Now known as Dub Records). I think the first one was a 12"
and the 2nd one a 10" or the other way arround.

I second that. I've been a long-time fan of the Shiver/Van Den Broek
material, but haven't seen anything newer in a while. Subsonic Soundscape
is

definitely a classic. While you're at it, see if you can track down any of
KJ's music. He's really diverse under his Moderator guise, and some of it
has a similar feel to this, some is more straight-Detroit from the past,
and

some hints at Tejada. Really excellent stuff!

[313] Bandulu (again)

2001-08-10 Thread John Osselaer
Since I haven't received a mail from the list in two days I have no clue
whether my mail concerning Bandulu went through or not so here we go:

I'm looking for online interviews with and info on Bandulu. Google is
letting me down a bit...

Sorry if this has reached the list before.
