If you're on a Mac, Digital Performer is a good choice. There's also Sonar for PC and Mac. Ableton's Live is great, but it's audio sequencing only, no MIDI functionality. There was a deplorable inccident last Sunday which has caused Jon Davis and co to "re-evaluate" their relationship with ARC/Vinyl. They have not decided whether to continue the party or not. Kevin Hedge has offered the new Shelter as Body and Soul's new home, and imo that seems like the most likely spot if they decide to continue (which I think they eventually will).
