(313) DEMF Hotels

2003-01-23 Thread Kent williams
I don't think that the priceline/RenCen debacle will be repeated. In
2001 you could get rooms at ReCen for like $45 a night, and have 4 people
stay there. But if you're willing to camp in a room with 2 or 3 of your
best buddies, there are still bargains -- the Omni is listed orbitiz for
$94 and change ... getting deals on travel involves sometimes spending a lot
of time visiting different sites. It can be worth it -- i.e. you might
be able to get a priceline room in Detroit for $50 a night ...

I don't understand why people can't just say what's on their minds.
No discussion sticks ruthlessly to the point.
If it's pertinent, it needs saying.
Perhaps we wouldn't be in this situation if we weren't always desperately
finding something else to talk about.
Some things are bigger than Detroit techno and have to occasionally encroach

I was hoping to see this thread slowly die off on it's own but I'm sorry I
had to say something. The problem is everyone wants to say on last thing
about it and then say "back to the music" -- but be strong people and resist
the urge. Or form your own group to discuss it and take tell others the URL

PS - For comparison: if Derrick May said that he can make your shirts
whiter and brighter with Tide liquid detergent, that doesn't mean it
therefore legitimizes an impassioned laundry care debate on 313. :) Let's
use good judgment here.

Is the 'Off to Battle' track difficult to get on

vinyl, taped it (as I'd no decks at the time) and then
sold the vinyl to a shop as I was a poor student. Doh!

RE: (313) keeping remotely on topic

2003-01-23 Thread Brendan Nelson
Well, what would be wrong in setting up a mailing list basically
discussing the social and political contexts - both historical and
contemporary - that the 313-type music scene operates within? I agree
with Matt that discussions on this subject are out of bounds for 313,
although I have strong (and frequently-expressed, on other mailing
lists) opinions about it myself.

So to break the cycle whereby an off-topic thread spins off into a
meta-thread with only abstract relevance to 313's subject matter, maybe
someone could volunteer to set up and run a mailing list - 313-politics
or something - where these discussions could be held?

Hi again,

I could not search the gzip 313 archive (are we getting an html one???), so
could you please help with these two questions about Derrick's productions:

- Which (if any) tracks from Relics: A Transmat Comp. LP on Buzz are not
included in the Innovator 5x12" box set?

- Is a list of all (or most) of the Mayday remixes pressed in vinyl avaiable
on the net?
If not, shall we compile one?

Thanks for your help,

Aha!

I have been a Gabriel Rene aka Aquanote fan for a while - he's one of my
favourites. He is way more interesting that Miguel Migs. He also was
involved in Soulstice with sister Gina but Astralwerks delayed up the
release so it sounded dated on release, I don't think he was too happy with
that.

Really cool DJ!

His grandfather played cornet with King Oliver and Louis Armstrong in New
Orleans, too, apparently. His mother promoted Motown type acts.

Man, some of the Spiral and other traveller Parties back then were a bit hit
and miss, but Castle Morton was certainly an experience. Just thinking about it
brings back all sorts of memories. What was the name of the Spiral MC who used
to MC with EasyGroove? He used to just make up make up dark and cheeky little
rhymes all the time. The whole Spiral Crowd crowd had a certain dark sense of
humour that really appealed to me around that time, but I started scratching
beneath the surface and getting too deeply into it all and found it was all a
bit too much for me. It took me over a year to get my head straight from one
eventful Spiral party. Doing Liquid Ketamin as a 17 year old in a caravan full
of hardcore Spiral boys preaching the significance of the number 23 and why I
should embrace my paranoia wasn't the best idea I ever had!

Strangest night I think I ever had. I seem to remember the MC at one sound
> system shout "Die mugger, Die mugger, f*** off and die mugger", after some

That sort of sh*t happened all the time. Worst thing I ever saw was a bunch of
Travellers dragging a guy along the ground that they had tied up and heavily
spiked for ripping people off, whilst about 3 small kids spat and kicked him.
Crazy people, crazy parties.

mistaken it was recorded at the Gmex when they were supporting 808 State.
N-Joi blew 808 state off-stage, and they were supposed to be supporting. :)

Oh, and "make you strong like a lion" also got sampled on Jibaro by Electra
(see Balearic Beats Vol 1)... I think.

Castle Morton. I remember a group of us getting thrown out of The Eclipse in

Strangest night I think I ever had. I seem to remember the MC at one sound
system shout "Die mugger, Die mugger, f*** off and die mugger", after some
girl had been mugged near one of the sound system. Bomb Scare by 2 Bad Mice

Can't knock 2 Unlimited as much as I try... remember being in Eclipse in
Coventry back in 91 and Carl Cox playing that tune to death. Shamen were
good live tho... saw them at Keele Uni back in 89 when Nipper was supporting
them.

The track it samples is Wiggin. ;)

Not sure what Mark is doing now. He'd just had his second kid last time I
spoke to him... standing outside the record shop with a smile a mile-wide.

Bizzarre Inc and Altern-8 both worked out Stafford. If you get chance to see
any of the old videos, keep an eye open for a very scruffy looking bloke
with red wellies on... the late Russian Rob. He used to stand in the town
centre with a coconut doing a wierd dance. Mark's friend Danny used to work
in Global Groove in Hanley.

Hi Jeff,

I know someone answered already, but I'd try and get one saved through a
shop - I think there's only 300, and I know my mate in one of the shops
here in Manchester has had a load of people asking already.

You could try rushhour, but also I know that Piccadilly records in
Manchester will maybe get 10, but I also know that www.boomkat.com are
deffo getting some.
Problem is that they may be inclined to sort out regular customers only as
I think people are already arguing

Good luck

This to me is THE album of 2002.

I pretty much lost it with Naked Music after that Miguel Migs album, and I
expected from Aquanote something in the same vein. But no! Of course there
are the typical Naked style tracks, but at least half of the album are soul
tracks in a more Mary J Blige type of feel.

And that mix of "Nowhere"... blew my mind instantly!

If it is a banging track with loud snares and a vocal "do you want some
bass? Do you want some bass in your mtf face" then it is probably DJ Rush
with 'Bass in your face', dunno the name of the label.

If it is a banging track with loud snares and a vocal "do you want some
bass? Do you want some bass in your mtf face" then it is probably DJ Rush
with 'Bass in your face', dunno the name of the label.

Discogs.com now has a market place on thier webpage. You get to set the
price and don't have to worry about bidders. I believe it only costs a
dollar to post something for sale too...

What are mint condition copies of Plus 8's From Our Minds to Yours Volumes 1
and 2 worth? Description: Both contain 2 X 12" records (a total of 4), the
catalog numbers are PLUS8009 and PLUS8022, and neither are in the
shrinkwrap. I'm not sure if these were ever re-pressed, but I believe the
copies I have are first edition.

Also, any tips on where best to sell these? Anywhere besides ebay?

Thanks for the help,
JG

Discog D has a track that goes something like that, it was released on
Contaminated 4 yeard back or so. But I would be willing to bet that The
Paul Johnson track that Trevor is talking about is alot closer to what you
have heard. Besides...that track is a classic!

could it be Paul Johnson's "Feel my MotherF$$king Bass in your Face" if so
it's Dance Mania #69 under the name Nite Life Productions or something as I
recall...which doesnt mean it's right so I would get a second opinion.

Re: (313) Luomo/Vladislav Delay in NYC...

2003-01-23 Thread Data General

Anyone besides me go to this?

I was really impressed: I'm not too familiar with Luomo as opposed to

his Vladislav Delay stuff, so it was kind of novel being that dance-y. I
really liked the way the vocals fit in.
