I knew I'd heard it recently, but didn't realize this was Neptunes-related. Cheerist I need to follow-up on some of those Neptues proddings I keep getting. At any rate, the reason for my post is that the 5th Yam Who record is a re-edit of "Frontin'" and it sounds bad as hell from the online audio. Should have it in my mits tomorrow for a full review. For those who have heard the other Yam Who's, I can see the drool rolling down your chins already. Act quickly! Tristan === http://www.phonopsia.co.uk [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Chad Hugo is fully into electronic music, he knows his music like nobody, The Neptunes is an equal partnership but most people recognise Pharrell. Chad is into Depeche Mode and used to collect Plus 8 stuff and concocts amazing beats. You can hear him on the new Bryan Zentz album playing sax, too, and Bryan gets props in the Clones credits. Chad is probably my biggest hero outside of techno/house at the moment, him and Pharrell. Pharrell's Frontin' is my single of the year. I just love the chord changes and the spacy arrangement and jazz feel. I wish Carl Craig could remix it. The Clones album is total genius. -- >From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >To: 313@hyperreal.org, [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: (313) The Neptunes & Kraftwerk >Date: Wed, 3 Sep 2003 5:50 AM > > Check out Busta Rhymes' new single: "Light Your Ass On > Fire"--produced by The Neptunes and found on The > Neptunes Present: The Clones album (there's also a > video out for this song). (313) Tips
The Groovetech sale is crazy. 50-70% off lots of good stuffs. I spent all w/e going through it and came out with about 50 records, many at £2. Most of it's older, so I won't post up anything unless it's really seizing me. However, I picked up my VJ order today and have some more coming from Piccadilly tomorrow. So... for now let me recommend highly the Brooks remix of Chief Beef, which is dpe. Piccadilly called it 'deep rave'. :) Brooks also has a new hip house remix on Mantis 024 that I picked up @ Koobla today, which is also very tasty. And I know it isn't explicitly [313], but there must be some Madlib fans out there or people who picked up the first Dudley Perkins 7" - Flowers. Anyway, the album is out now, and it is crazy! Really great stuff. I have doubles of 'Flowers' now too. :) Don't sleep b/c I'm sure it'll go fast - like those Andres, Moxie 03 and Dan Curtin which I can't seem to find and have no money left for even if I could. :( Tristan === http://www.phonopsia.co.uk [EMAIL PROTECTED]
(313) The Neptunes & Kraftwerk
Check out Busta Rhymes' new single: "Light Your Ass On Fire"--produced by The Neptunes and found on The Neptunes Present: The Clones album (there's also a video out for this song). The intro synthesizer motif sounds like a nod to Kraftwerk's "Trans Europe Express" and the metallic rhythms of the body of the track sound like a nod to "Metal On Metal" methinks. Thoughts? Hi folks, I'll be in Ontario from Friday 5th to Tuesday 16th, and was wondering if anyone knew of any 313-like events taking place in the Hamilton/Toronto area, or could recommend some decent shops to buy vinyl. RE: (313) Brinkmann set
There are a couple of live Brinkmann sets in the Mutek.ca archives. Recorded in 2000 I believe. The one that starts with the track "who in the funk do you think you are?" is more to my liking than the other. This set contains material mostly from the series of records that came out with the orange jackets, and a female name on each side. It is one of my favorite sets to listen to, and in spots, you can hear the crowd "going bananas". I believe there are some tracks of the Soul Center releases played also, but the orange series cuts are killer (in my opinion). Re: (313) Sad news: Club Tresor is Shut
Weird, I was just watching this show on cable this weekend about the rebuilding of Potzdammer Platz and was telling my wife that the club was slated to be sold or shut down some time soon and then made a comment that we should visit before it does. Haven't the "authorities" been trying to close Tresor for some time now because it sits on property that has seen a *huge* increase in value? Seems like they finally got their excuse. Re: (313) Big up to Blaktronics
some very very funky, futuristic, techjazzy tracks pretty along the lines of aardvarck, nubian mindz, dego. . good to see reflective is back in business as well agreed! I was lucky enough to attend the Reflective record release party for this 12" in San Francisco a few months ago, they played an amazing live set that was all over the place stylistically, and brilliant throughout. A nice long PA too! These guys can bring it live. It was a packed into a little bar called The Top that has this back room and tiny dance floor that was gettin busy. After that Jonah Sharpe from Reflective spun a nice little techno/electro set, and definitely pushed the energey up a notch when he dropped 69 "My Machines" a nice moment. As for Blacktronics followers -- also check out the more abstract and yet more varied Soil.Sole ep on MOVING records... even more different stuff and some spoken word moods too. best, Matt MacQueen

How does any copy protect stop me? (I'm assuming it > will only work on pcs?) Yes, you can still do an audio copy of a CD that has copy protection. What copy protection tries to do is to prevent you from doing a digital -> digital copy. You can still run the cd through a DAC and copy it that way. Simply, copy protection works buy putting deliberate errors on the cd. So when trying to do a digital -> digital copy, the software will detect an error an not be able to do a copy. However, when playing a cd the cd playing will give it a 'nearest guess' and thus the cd will play. This does mean that audio quality of copy protected cds is inferior to none copy protected cds but the industry doesn't care about this. Never mind providing the consumer with quality when you can squeeze them to get the maximum amount of money.

Re: (313) Big up to Blaktronics
Gotta second this recommendation - the Reflective EP is quality, looking forward to playing this on a big system at the weekend. Heavy, heavy broken beat action with great dubbed out fx and general weirdness. I can imagine it tearing up the floor at Co-Op... > Hi List- > > if anyone is interested in fantastic, stripped down, weird > "electro-funk/tech-hop meets broken beat" that rattles around inside > your brain for days after listening they should check out "Blaktronics- > This is your brain on drugs" EP on Jonah Shape's Reflective label- > really quite incredible stuff- they also have releases on German label > Moving Records which are more vocal oriented (but still pretty strange) > > Jason Brunton >
Re: (313) Big up to Blaktronics
oh yes, yes ! especially the two tracks on the a side of the reflective release are very outter space! some very very funky, futuristic, techjazzy tracks pretty along the lines of aardvarck, nubian mindz, dego. . good to see reflective is back in business as well - Original Message - From: "Jason Brunton" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "313" <313@hyperreal.org> Sent: Tuesday, September 02, 2003 11:34 AM Subject: (313) Big up to Blaktronics > Hi List- > > if anyone is interested in fantastic, stripped down, weird > "electro-funk/tech-hop meets broken beat" that rattles around inside > your brain for days after listening they should check out "Blaktronics- > This is your brain on drugs" EP on Jonah Shape's Reflective label- > really quite incredible stuff- they also have releases on German label > Moving Records which are more vocal oriented (but still pretty strange) > > Jason Brunton > >

Hi List- if anyone is interested in fantastic, stripped down, weird "electro-funk/tech-hop meets broken beat" that rattles around inside your brain for days after listening they should check out "Blaktronics- This is your brain on drugs" EP on Jonah Shape's Reflective label- really quite incredible stuff- they also have releases on German label Moving Records which are more vocal oriented (but still pretty strange) Jason Brunton

The problem with me is that (AFAIK) I've never heard anything from the previous volumes so I've nothing to compare 3 with.
