RE: (313) Au Revoir Groovetech
Well, maybe, but once again, I might point out I bought four records this weekend. 3 of the records, I have MP3s of the albums I bought, and have been searching for the record. The fourth is an artist I discovered in part by checking out his MP3s. I also discovered "The Sea & Cake" through mp3s this weekend, because I saw a poster for an upcoming show of theirs here in Chicago. Now, because I liked the music I heard, I intend to go see their show. I will probably buy an album of theirs on vinyl also, if I see it around. I think that many others would have the same outlook as my own. Of course, it's always scary to put ethical choices in the hands of consumers. But then, isn't that what "freedom" (if that word means anything at all anymore) is all about? -David PS. I never did try out Groovetech. I prefer shopping in stores but I do use planetxusa.com sometimes. -Original Message- From: Cyclone Wehner [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, September 22, 2003 1:35 PM To: 313 Detroit Subject: Re: (313) Au Revoir Groovetech Now maybe the impact of rampant file sharing and burning stuff becomes clear... If you can find *one* established producer or indie label owner or store owner who believes in that, I would love to talk to them. I'm not being facetious at all, but I don't think it's viable to deny the impact. There are other factors of course but that is a large part of the industry decline. The Internet has opened up music, allowing more people to access music for free, but the majority of people who download do not go on to buy the music. Mind, suing 12 year-olds is dumb and counter productive.
Re: (313) Re: who is the aquanaut (Aquarian?)
I'm browsing Sonicgroove's website and I think the title is actually "Who is the Aquarian?" which would make it an Aquarhythms records release - Morgan Geist and Carl Craig (under the name Bodyjazz Bodyfusion) have released records on this label along with someone called The Hydronaut. This would make sense as it sounds like it's in that style camp - so, anyone know anything about Aquarhythms and the Aquarian? sorry for all the confusion, I should have written in down before I left the house MEK Michael.Elliot-Knight @fallon.com To: Ken Odeluga <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> cc: 313@hyperreal.org 09/22/03 05:02 PMSubject: Re: (313) Re: who is the aquanaut > Michael + everyone - if this was answered excuse me: Aquanauts is > another Stinson (I forget the first name). (313) bleep43, Saturday, London
Just a note to say thanks to all who came down to support us on Saturday, and of course to Portable, Max, and Val Tyne. Portable unveiled some startlingly modern but groovy moods on his new LP, due out next month, Val set the scene admirably with an expert set, seamlessly blending house, broken beats and techno. Max, it has to be said though, stole the show with a mid-to-moderate tempo set of the sinister, deep and emotional, made up of the obscurest of obscure house (a lot of Chicago I think, with some spoken vocals) and techno. The icing on the cake was some perfectly timed bombs like 'Feel The Mood' and 'Game One'. Hearing the latter, at about 3 am and going beserk in a tightly packed in Public Life, has made my month. Peace k

>GT is the store never had anything in stock (what i was looking for at >least). the dj culture in the US is dropping off. people are spending money >else where. Groovetech would get new stuff in just around the same time that my local shop would so after a while it made no sense to shop there for me. Plus, the recent hike in their prices put me right off buying from them. Really seemed like they were going toward the type of house music I hear all the time around here - that whole Naked Music/Miguel Migs thing - lots of west coast sounds. As far as techno - hit and miss. Their roots/funk/reggae/dub section was pretty bad ass though. They had a good/great idea but I think they spread themselves a bit thin and couldn't sell a large amount lesser quality music. I think lots of online stores could look at Groovetech as an example of how to present your merchandise but not necessarily what to stock. They really introduced some innovative ideas for an online store. It's scary how shaky the independent record industry is. My local shop is not doing so well. How can an independent survive? If you keep smaller quantities then you run the risk of not having what the customer wants. If you stock too much of the wrong item then you've shot yourself in the foot because you can't move the merchandise. I'd love to open a shop but it's too much of a risk these days - lots of shops that have been around for a long time are not surviving. I don't blame mp3s - quite the contrary - I think deregulation of the media is killing music in the US. MEK
Re: (313) bleep43/radio show
Sadly there's no archive on the site, which might be a statement by my bosses about the essentially transient nature of creation. Alternatively it could be because they're a bunch of stingy chancers, maybe we'll never know If Ken's OK about it I could burn people a copy of the show (Ken?), though I might ask them to send an SAE. If people have personal sites that I can FTP the MP3s to that would be easier perhaps. Best Dan. the Rob Hood limited thing (Omega on PeaceFrog) is surprisingly good for a bit of acid house flavour It ain't Chicago is a good 12 too... there is a new 12 by sendex on the bunker label it is all acid house very good imo worth the listen if you are into that. i picked it up because i kow sendex's electro on bunker, but this is straight up acid, early chicago sound, flying 303, etc. in a similar vein the polarius stuff and the hershel raheem (on creme) are worth checkin if you dig this. i got the sendex 12 above but i can't get used to his voice on the trackssolid acid house tho... from the UR batch i only picked up aguila and redplanet the fix mix of aguila is the one for me.reverse edits yum, the redplant is nice but a little formulaic, immaculately produced of course tho. you are talking about the four 7"er's? i talk of the 12scan't bring myself to buy 7" records :) robin...

I picked these up a couple of weeks ago they are very nice the aquanauts is my fav. reminds me of the jackin ur electro sound, kinda like drexicya/chaos. is this drex-related? kinda thought that becasue of the water reference. the red planet and los hermanos 7's are excellent also, but not as familar with those series of ur. there was also a second electro sounding 7" forget the name right off hand andi'm at work but that one is also top notch. oh yea record time ferndale had these. did not see them in roseville. scotto lansing, mi plaztikjezuz.com

i can strongly recommend the new jackmate album "prodigal son". the track "prodigal son" itself is a mighty acid house rocker. it was released earlier this month on the german label resopal-schallware. the other tracks range between minimal techno and tech-house. pretty good stuff. ronny

anyone know what the second song in this mix is? http://deephousepage.com/ron300.ram it starts with gaz nevada 'ic love affair', and after a couple of seconds the record i'm after starts. italian lyrics, sung by two male vocalists, and female background singers singing about 'radio rei' or something like that. anyone (rc?) know what this is? jurren _ STOP MORE SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
(313) Ugly Edit
so, I haven't got an Ugly Edit 5 yet. and there's a dells track on there? and no one knows the others? Has he put that edit of Loose Joints on there that he was playing last time he was in England? Thought that was a pretty poor edit - admittedly I only heard it in a club, but I dunno, just far too teasing! usually I like his edits too, always rougher than most, slightly more creative than others.. still think that Made In The Usa edit on number one is one of the best. rough rough rough alex (who's up for taliking some right old s**te today, so sorry in advance) _ - End of message text This e-mail is sent by the above named in their individual, non-business capacity and is not on behalf of PricewaterhouseCoopers. Re: (313) records....
there's a re-edit on there and a "remix" (which doesn't sound that different). nice solid stuff. i didn't have the original so it might not add anything if you have that. while i'm on: martin landsky 'reject' on pokerflat is another tune i've picked up tooforgot that one.again in a acid house vein... robin... 'Sweet Yesterday' by Moodymann is a little strange choice for a single - I've played it many times but still can't remember it! (Maybe I'm just thick though!). It seemed nice whilst it was playing though. It's supposed to be a re-recorded version of an earlier Mahagoni 12" There's a fresh RP track on side b of the 7" vers of the latest RP, which is quite good - sorry no title in my memory bank. (I quite like the tinny tendency in the sound quality of the 7", it makes the music sound like it's fr a classic film soundtrack ...) k

The label is actually called False Tuned, and it's run by Paul St Hilaire (the artist formerly known as Tikiman). There have been two other 12"s and a CD released to date, but I haven't bought them so not sure what they're like - I get the impression they're more straight-up dub/reggae style. This is the first one to be produced by Rene Lowe (aka Vainquer, half of Scion)... Chers, Tom

Hello. So folks, what's hot? Not bought many new records lately - have I missed much? Picked up Vainqueur/Tikiman's 12" on a new? label called 'Stay Tuned'. Not a particuarly new sound or anything, just some very nice deep business.. anymore releases on this label I may have missed? or is this the first? oh, and I just caught up with my mail, the q from Charles? regarding US radio... Surely there's only one man to recommend - Mr Macqueen out of Chicago! RE: (313) Ugly edit 5
>I think you bought the boots! :) >Tristan Sir, I assure I didn't! :-) I had my suspicions too but, I've done a most forensic comparison of many genuine UG (inc run-out groove etchings etc) and am satisfied that mine are authentic. Also, re. repressings (re, re?) publicized for on-line purchase on this very list, if any of these are boots, it therefore more or less obliges some folk right here to come clean - if they've got anything to confess that is. He has a huge UR-only section. The address is 241 east 10th street. I think Throb went mail-order only after losing their lease but their warehouse is in Brooklyn and their website is www.throb.com Also, Other Music still has an NYC store on 15 E 4th st. Satellite does in fact have brick-and-mortar store at 259 Bowery in Manhattan. -- Be sure and unplug Baby Jesus [EMAIL PROTECTED] before his head melts!
