(313) a fitting piece of lyrics & some needed humor (OT)
Not sure if i should admit this, but I've been listening to LCD Soundsystem a lot lately as I hurry to get my classrooms ready for the upcoming busy school year. Anyways, this song always makes me chuckle and often reminds me of some of the ppl on this list and many of the ppl I've met through the years. Just take a moment to read & see the humor & honesty. enjoy, d Yeah, I'm losing my edge. I'm losing my edge. The kids are coming up from behind. I'm losing my edge. I'm losing my edge to the kids from France and from London. But I was there. I was there in 1968. I was there at the first Can show in Cologne. I'm losing my edge. I'm losing my edge to the kids whose footsteps I hear when they get on the decks. I'm losing my edge to the Internet seekers who can tell me every member of every good group from 1962 to 1978. I'm losing my edge. To all the kids in Tokyo and Berlin. I'm losing my edge to the art-school Brooklynites in little jackets and borrowed nostalgia for the unremembered eighties. But I'm losing my edge. I'm losing my edge, but I was there. I was there. But I was there. I'm losing my edge. I'm losing my edge. I can hear the footsteps every night on the decks. But I was there. I was there in 1974 at the first Suicide practices in a loft in New York City. I was working on the organ sounds with much patience. I was there when Captain Beefheart started up his first band. I told him, "Don't do it that way. You'll never make a dime." I was there. I was the first guy playing Daft Punk to the rock kids. I played it at CBGB's. Everybody thought I was crazy. We all know. I was there. I was there. I've never been wrong. I used to work in the record store. I had everything before anyone. I was there in the Paradise Garage DJ booth with Larry Levan. I was there in Jamaica during the great sound clashes. I woke up naked on the beach in Ibiza in 1988. But I'm losing my edge to better-looking people with better ideas and more talent. And they're actually really, really nice. I'm losing my edge. I heard you have a compilation of every good song ever done by anybody. Every great song by the Beach Boys. All the underground hits. All the Modern Lovers tracks. I heard you have a vinyl of every Niagra record on German import. I heard that you have a white label of every seminal Detroit techno hit - 1985, '86, '87. I heard that you have a CD compilation of every good '60s cut and another box set from the '70s. I hear you're buying a synthesizer and an arpeggiator and are throwing your computer out the window because you want to make something real. You want to make a Yaz record. I hear that you and your band have sold your guitars and bought turntables. I hear that you and your band have sold your turntables and bought guitars. I hear everybody that you know is more relevant than everybody that I know. But have you seen my records? This Heat, Pere Ubu, Outsiders, Nation of Ulysses, Mars, The Trojans, The Black Dice, Todd Terry, the Germs, Section 25, Althea and Donna, Sexual Harrassment, a-ha, Pere Ubu, Dorothy Ashby, PIL, the Fania All-Stars, the Bar-Kays, the Human League, the Normal, Lou Reed, Scott Walker, Monks, Niagra, Joy Division, Lower 48, the Association, Sun Ra, Scientists, Royal Trux, 10cc, Eric B. and Rakim, Index, Basic Channel, Soulsonic Force ("just hit me"!), Juan Atkins, David Axelrod, Electric Prunes, Gil! Re: (313) Deep and soulful mix
yo Jari. keep the nice musical work. I liked a lot of things in it. deep house is really a lovely thing no? and it will be for a very long time. the mix begining with two original styled sintetic deep house tracks made me happy. : ] the strings on track 2 are great ! the 4° record surprised me. a lot of lyrics, and lyrics trying hard to send a message (not that I identify with that particular message). this is interesting to me since I came from the roots reggae paradigm, where we do speak a lot. and this track mix with record number 3 was very interesting. an unusual and strong mood on that mix. the long minimalistic acid track was the period I enjoyed the less, but I see it as an point of vew that you propose us and it is always important to pay the attention. 2 nice deep house tracks will end the mix, to complete the circle, and the last record was maybe the most "black" music of them. strong swingued (some times I feel like Im creating new words with my english..) bass lines. and very nice work on the turn tables. nice control. guidance ! RE: (313) Hawtin
Steve Rachmad played a great set, altough he was on a bit early DJ Bone ROCKED the place...this man needs to be booked more...GRREAT! Sven Väth, think of him what u want (i know he's not loved very much on this list) ..this man is still up there. He pulls large crowds and plays with the audience, not ur avarage bangbangtechno but a subtle style of minmal, elektro and techno.. great mix, played for 3hrs, and he got me dancing and jumping, loved it! Dave Clarke is man for ur techno, now he's a bangbangtechno man...proper skills, loads of effects and scratching..high tempo and besides that Mr. Clarke was even jumping and smiling an dancing behind the dex, and that's not often to be seen:-) Remark: a boy and a girl climb upon the stage to dance in front of Clarke during his set, he looks at them, stops the music and doesn't say a word but only looks at them and only restarts the music after he looked them of stage...seem like he doesn't like dancers or so:-) Only heard half an hour or so from Hawtin, sounded allright..large crowd in front of the stage but still it seemed to miss a spark to get the crowd going. Also heard Misstress Barbara, she changed a bit from banging techno to minimal techno but her set her was banging all the way, was allright so to say. There was also a stage with the now so popular rock 'n rave bands..guitars and dancebeats with a punkattitude. Now where have i heard that before??? Nid and Sancy, anyone?? Nice festival, weather was fine after all and so were the beers www.3voor12.nl will have sets from the fesitval up a in a few days. RE: (313) Pot, kettle, black
I know I'm late on the Richie Bashing thread... I just saw something that Tom Cox said that amused me so much I had to repost it... I belive he said this to try and rip on Richie... "...having fun and being a pompous tool. the line between those is very thin. or not." tom hmmm... calling Richie a pompous tool...pot, kettle, black... I find this very amusing.
RE: (313) Telepathic Um...
Well guys and Diana... ; ) This will be my last post re: this incident. It most certainly is a dead horse, just like the horse that tried to kill me when I was 10 years old. I'll send you the link if anyone wants to hear that story... First: I thought Tom's comments and contempt were absolutely hilarious. Especially when he went for my jugular. He really reminded me of my father, a complete uptight prick. I really have to do a blog about this on my Myspace.com/kookyscientist page for my lame ass fans. The quotes were just too funny. Second: I do wish some nut would take out Bush/Cheney/Limbaugh/P-Orridge. Any or all of the above, but sadly, Tom isn't that nut... ; ( Third: If I get invited to perform again @ DEMF next year nothing would be funnier than to invite Tom to get on the mic and spew it out live onstage right to my face in front of a crowd. Of course I wouldn't pay him but it would be highly entertaining. Fourth: I know the Paxahau guys extremely well and I know they are definitely interested in booking all the guys from Detroit that Tom worships. It would be great to let the stage for one day be named, "The Thomas D. Cox, Jr 'keeping it real' Detroit Stage" and let Tom be the MC for a day. (every time I read that "keeping it real" I hear Dave Chapelle's voice saying it and crack up) We'll just say that for that day the tent is sponsered by Al Qaeda since that will keep it really real and terrorizingly underground even though it isn't true. Fifth: As Tom's wife knows in the private email I sent her, I don't wish any ill will on her or her child.
