RE: (313) Claude VonStroke

2007-02-22 Thread Christopher O'Grady
I saw him in Dublin about a few months ago as well and I really enjoyed his
set, deep techy and funky. I spent most of the night on the dancefloor. No
regrets. Dirtybird 006 Claude Vonstroke - Beware of the bird is a brilliant
release. But I am a sucker for that sound anyways, especially the stuff
coming out on Audiomatique right now.

First I thought he was German and now I find out he is from the burbs of
Detroit. But I guess Barclay Crenshaw does not exactly roll off the tongue
like Claude Vonstroke.

I looked him up on imdb - he was location manager for Batman & Robin
or something! There's one song on his CD that is Bukem like drum 'n'
bass that I really like. Maybe it's near the end.

Haven't heard any of his except from clips and that one big track that
Hawtin was hyping as the best track of last year, which is actually quite
good if you ask me. Thought it was alright but haven't been bothered enough
to buy it just yet, probably because it's not exactly got any uniqueness in

Already been done. The Avalanches "A Different Feeling" samples at least
three different bits from C2 songs (or the same bits he sampled as it may
have been), and then he did a remix for them of that track, which now goes
for stupid money: http://www.discogs.com/sell/list?release_id=155209. Good
track by the way. Would love to get the remix.

Well, I've not heard it Greg, but it could be argued that'd be a good
thing! :)

Anyway, one thing I've realised is that a lot of producers recycle their
current ideas in their remix projects.

Examples:

CC's mix of 'Entertainment' by Floppy Sounds, sounds very similar to
'The Truth' on this:

http://www.discogs.com/release/2889

Villalobos' remix of 'A Walk in the Park'

http://www.discogs.com/release/323700

sounds like it was from the same sessions for 'The Au Harem
D'Archimede.'

So, if you're right Greg, it wouldn't be such a remarkable thing to
happen really, would it?

(313) 313ers in Maine ? (OT)

2007-02-22 Thread diana potts

So the boyf and I are packing up this summer and
moving to Portland, Maine.

Is anyone from the list around that area? What do
people do there for funner times other than eat
seafood and roll their eyes at LL Bean? Moose pelt
hats?

We love it there, but just taking surveys.

moose.
