Crikey Ken, does this mean some Dust stuff may finally make it to your decks ;) Lots of people have picked up on, which is strange cos we felt the project may be a difficult sell. Re: (313) Faith Is Fear
Cheers for the props Kent, it's been a long project but it feels good to have it out there. Should have the album and samples up later this week but it features tracks from the following: Anthony Child/Detroitrocketscience/Onmutu Mechanicks/Quantazelli/ iPassenger/DNCN/The Black Dog/The 65D Mavericks/Fabrice Lig/Betaville/ Slit/Regis and Female/System 23/Carl Talyor Chymera had a brilliant 12" out on Ovum, will check more stuff out tho. m On 24 Apr 2007, at 21:23, kent williams wrote: Nice. The Fabrice track is dark and funky, the Regis & Female recalls the R&S Aphex Twin tracks in a good way. 65D Mavericks reminds me of Chymera's tracks. Carl Taylor track is very big room minimal, something I could hear Mills spinning. It's all over the place stylistically -- I can see 4 different narrow-taste DJs only liking one of the 4. I love them all ;-) On another, related subject -- Brendan Gregoriy aka Chymera is returning to Ireland from Costa Rica, to trade his suntan for a studio tan, and he's got stuff coming out on a couple of different labels. Indeed someone told me of an interview with Moritz VO (yes he does these - or this one at least - apparently!) where he said the reason they issue Chain Reaction in those scratchy cardboard sleeves with no liner (though I know sometimes in the States you get them with a black label and conventional black sleeve) was that they like the idea of each copy "degrading" (his word) in a different way and becoming individual. I guess while that will work well on those records where it might not sound so good on others! > I'm interested in the story, and I'm loving the mix. As much > as I appreciate the possibilities of digital mixes, I love > the 'vinylosity' > of this mix. I'm glad you said that as it kind of links in with the story and my question: I was lucky enough to spend the first month of this year in Brazil. I did 2 weeks on my own and 2 in the company of list member Guilherme Menegon Arantes (313 so much to answer for.). Now Gui runs a pretty hot little night called "Feel Surreal" (nice name) in Sao Paulo and to make a good holiday better I got to play there while I was over. Since I was playing to a crowd who'd never heard me before I decided I'd play loads of favourites where I normally only play a few out at once so I don't play the same stuff all the time. Also I was limited in how many records I could take due to luggage restrictions so it made sense to take a lot of tested classic stuff rather than oddballs that I might play if the mood was right. Not long before the trip I bought one of the old, .wav recording, iRiver portable music players, chiefly to listen to stuff on my travels but also I can use it for recording sets. In the excitement of the build up to the gig though I forgot to take the player and get it connected up. Afterwards I kicked myself for this, especially since after a year's lay off we're about to start doing That Amazing Thing! parties again (3 dates coming up in June, July and August, Manchester and Cumbria, anyone fancies a 313 knees up in the UK countryside put August 17-19 in your diary) and it would have made good new content for our site. I became even more frustrated when I recorded a set at a gig in Wales immediately on my return that was daytime soulful stuff, contrasting nicely with the "clubby-ness" of the Brazil set and I wanted to put them on the site together. Still having the records I'd taken in a box and there not being that many of them I decided it should be possible to do a reasonable recreation of the set. In fact to my surprise I'm 90% confident I've remembered the records I played and about 75% that I've got the order the same. The first time I tried to record it I got things just right by waiting till late on a Friday, drinking and smoking a bit and then really feeling the vibe and making mistakes while playing which I felt were probably at the same level as I made while playing out in Brazil - not train wrecks, just slipping out a little and getting faded quickly. Only thing was still being an iRiver novice I failed to check the input setting before recording and although I'd previously set it to "line in" it had reverted to internal mic. Since then I've been trying again but I just couldn't get in the same mood and it was coming out sounding sterile. Finally last Friday I managed to get in the zone again and recorded the mix I've linked to. So my question is this - how naughty will it be when I finally get round to updating our site to put the mix up simply labelled "Francis live @ Feel Surreal in Sao Paulo"? After all I can't write all that I have above and expect people to read it. I hardly expect anyone to have read it here!
