2008-02-13 Thread Mislav

Ooops. Right. Believe it works in a way that in this case Recloose has to be
your 'friend' on your myspace account and then you would receive those
bulletins from them and link would probably work then. As mentioned earlier,
I find it very good in terms of being updated on various activities of your
favorite artists, labels, shops, clubs, nights etc...

I am still resisting to join Facebook cos' I just got used to myspace and
time is pretty scarce these days to venture into that new world. It is scary
how popularity of those things change quickly. Multiply anyone ? who
remembers that now ?

2008-02-13 Thread M Ng
I agree with Kent. Selling out is about compromising values.

I will also add - An artist has to eat - and it's great that they have
other means of income other than just make records. Better something
cool like an adidas ad, than say flipping burgers or being stuck in an
office. Face it, not much $ is being made on making records.

I have NFI really about a grammy. if you get nominated, it'd be sweet
to get a chance to win one. I'm sure there is a lot of politicking and
bias etc going on, but if I were an artist and people appreciated my
recordings and nominated me, I wouldn't be complaining. And I dont'
think you'd be either.

selling out or keeping it real are "mythic attributes".
In fact, I wasn't talking about Theo or Richie at all, just
remarking on how those who scream sell-out and the
double-measures that goes along with it.

Theo is going to get all sorts of love from the 313 list that Richie
won't. That's just the way things are.

Watching that video doesn't make me think Theo is selling out to
Adidas. It makes me think that Theo and a Film-maker got a bunch of
money from Adidas to make a short film that gets at the heart of what
Detroit dance music is all about. I don't even think you can see
Theo's feet in it.

Worrying about selling out and underground legitimacy seems to mostly
be the occupation of people who have leisure time paid for by their
own selling out to whatever corporation they're working for. 'Selling
out' or 'Keeping it real' are more mythic attributes that people paste
artists with, which makes black in white a world that is almost
entirely gray.

This is a completely different thing than compromising artistic
principles to make money. Who in their right mind would talk about
Theo that way?

It's like they want their favorite artists not to sell out, because
they want to believe there's someone left that hasn't sold out. Fair
enough, I suppose, but we all have to make a living somehow. Let him
who is without sin cast the first stone.

Although the format is clumsy and frustrating, I like Myspace as well.
It's also good if you "subscribe" to an artist, you get updates on any
new music they may put up. It's better for more obscure
ambient/iDm/experimental stuff IMHO though.

To get the most coverage I'd do both. Different people prefer
different sites.

You might also want to do a virb.com account as this is getting more
popular. It's basically a more stylish MySpace.

RE: (313) Delsin track

2008-02-13 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Indeed, I basically look at the new releases Piccadilly have in via their
website. This takes me most of the week. Then I go in
there and properly listen to those that caught my eye / ear on their site,
usually on a Saturday. Then on Monday the whole process
begins again.

This has been going on for several years now and is ruining my appreciation of
music. Here are 3 things I never have time to listen
to as I spend my entire time that's free to listen to anything listening to
clips off Piccadilly (I'm doing it right now, even as I
type):

1. Practically any music at any other shop (I might for example quickly check
the Hardwax site the week before a trip to Berlin and
then go in there but that's about it).

2. Any mixes. It takes going away on holiday and lying on a beach with an mp3
player for me to do this. Before I went away for 3
weeks in Jan I loaded my player up with literally dozens I'd downloaded to my
PC because they looked really good. In the end it was
a busy holiday and I managed to listen to only 2 (of which the Delsin one was
one).

3. Worst of all the records I've actually bought as a result of this arduous
process!

I'm totally sick of this. I'd way rather listen to my records I bought and
good mixes than endless clips from shops. It's got to
the point where my appreciation of listening to music has been damaged and I'd
almost rather just put the TV on (this never used to
happen). I know it's a habit I've got to kick but I just can't help myself!
Hopefully writing this will help me be firmer and stop
listening to so much stuff in one place I miss the stuff I'm really after at
others (admitting you have a problem is the first step
;-). I wonder if The Priory treat this one?

Although the format is clumsy and frustrating, I like Myspace as well. It's
also good if you "subscribe" to an artist, you get updates on any new music
they may put up. It's better for more obscure ambient/iDm/experimental stuff
IMHO though.

I don't use either of them to find new music - it's far too
time-consuming and I'm far too lazy.

Cheers for this. One of my new year resolutions was to shop more widely. I
tend to spend a lot of time listening to too many of
the new releases at one local shop with the consequence the next batch arrive
there before I've finished and I end up never going
elsewhere. I used to shop in 2 local shops but then one of them (where we
briefly met) closed, :-(, so now I have "all my eggs in
one basket". This is typical of how I miss good things when they don't get
them in. Off to order now.

RE: (313) Robots & tracklistings / charts

2008-02-13 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Some people think that not only do the forces of darkness have search 'bots
trawling the net for signs of artist names and track
titles to find anyone that might possibly be hosting music on the net but that
when these 'bots see robots.txt telling them where
they can't go these particular ones go straight to the place they're asked not
to on the assumption something hidden is worth
looking at.

As I say I don't know much about these things - my original question after all
was does this all actually happen? Seems to me that
while it's likely some conspiracy theorist would say it was even if it was far
fetched it happens that it's not far fetched at all -
it's easy enough to build a search engine (the PC magazine I got last week
while trying to gain enough knowledge to decide what
laptop to buy had a "make your own search engine" article in the back) so why
wouldn't PRS, RIAA etc. do this? And having done it
would they configure it to respect what I think (?) is only a convention?
People may get angry if a 'bot disregards robots.txt but
I don't think there's like the death penalty or anything. Of course I'm sure
such reputable organisations would always make sure
their actions were beyond reproach..

I guess I could just send this to Marsel but maybe to the list is nice as it
highlights what a roll Delsin are on at the moment.
In my usual lack-of-time tardy way I only got to listen to the "Delsin New Season
Winter 2007" mix
(http://www.delsin.org/audio/DelsinNewSeasonMixWinter2007.mp3)
recently, really enjoying this, I think I want to get everything that's coming out!

I'm not sure if a track list went up when the mix got posted on here
originally, if it did can someone forward it to me?
If not I'd at least like to know what track it is that kicks in at about 26
mins and can you tell us when it will be available sir?
(if it isn't already).
