Re: (313) Easiest way to start a (313) argument - the Richie Hawtin RA Podcast
Yeah, I listened to it at work. I always try and give Mr. Hawtin a chance, since the one time I met him he was quite nice to me, and seemed like an intelligent guy. But... it doesn't really make me bust a grin, which a good mix will. It was OK, but I listened at work and it turned into sonic wallpaper. I kind of like the last Decks&fx CD but had the same impression -- it's great background music for computer programming -- Dilbert Techno. There's a place for that, but I think I wouldn't much like to see him play out if that's the way he mixes. Give me some variation and drama! (313) 313 list charter
http://music.hyperreal.org/lists/313/index2.html Not much really that I could add and I think every time I try I get tangled up. Perrenial issue of the mailing list: If anything Detroit-related is a proper topic of discussion, it brings up a meta-topic: Is artist/record X really Detroit-influenced? Is X Detroit enough? It has been done to death of course, but it springs eternal.

(313) 23rd May Masters of House party
Just got an email about this and thought it might be of interest to those on the hunt for Festival Afterparties. It's supposed to be a tribute to Ken Collier and features: Delano Smith Norm Talley DJ Genesis Mike Clark Minx Charles Hicks Al Ester Pirahna It's at Level 10, 2999 Woodbridge (at McDougall) and runs until 4am. I'll probably go if I'm not too knackered after my flight.
Re: (313) Meanwhile, back in Detroit......
I'm really feeling dj jus ed and his affiliates such as dj qu and fred p . love the smoothness in ed's productions and i think his drum programming is ace ! on some level i can see why he gets bundled with the detroit guys and i do feel like he has a certain affinity with those guys though aesthetically , between him and omar s . dj wise i think ed has better flow than omar s though i love both their djaying for different reasons . peace ! lerato

Re: (313) Meanwhile, back in Detroit......
I was really looking forward to that one as it had mixes from Eddie Fowlkes+Nico Marks, Alton Miller and Brian Bonds but I just wasn't really that into the track so the mixes didn't really do it for me- not too bad though. As for the previous release with Eddie's "mix" of Riders On The Storm (cough!)less said the better from me I think :) Jason 2008/5/1 Mislav <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > Spot on Frank ! favorite cut for me as well. RE: (313) Derrick May - @ BBC Radio 1Xtra Ministry Of Sound, April 19th 2008
Hello Nice to have the mp3 but worth mentioning that the BBC is more likely to cover artists like Derrick again if we all go and click on the 'listen again' link on the 1Xtra website: http://www.bb.co.uk/1xtra/allstar/ You don't actually have to listen to it if you're not a fan of Realplayer (who is?) but it's worth doing for tactical reasons. The show's only available until early Sunday morning (only just got this message for some reason). I think he's done a good few tracks and his sound can be sparse in places (like Omar) but so far he hasn't really produced and monster tracks (plenty of time to come though) I have quite a few Jus-Ed records but I think I'd agree with this. His vibe is different to Omar S, as Frank points out he has more of a straightforward house sound. I'd say Patrice Scott is possibly more akin to Omar in his grasp of melancholy and rawness. Again a different sound though, but one I'm really liking right now. Not sure if Jason's mentioned this as he seems to have a proper grip on hot records right now (and thankfully talks about it on the list, yes!) but the new Aesthetic Audio is now out. Juju and Jordash and Keith Worthy both on this. Another headsup as the new Moxie is out. Not heard what the edits are like but he's usually one of the better editors. robin...

Hey Frank- thanks for the info- everybody here always talks about him being from Detroit so I just assumed. I think he's done a good few tracks and his sound can be sparse in places (like Omar) but so far he hasn't really produced and monster tracks (plenty of time to come though) Hey Joe- I did use "Meanwhile...back in Detroit" as the subject line so it's fair enough that Frank pulled me on it! cheers Jason 2008/4/30 Frank Glazer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > > Dj Jus-Ed- don't remember much discussion about this guy on the list > > before...he's got some new material coming soon...what's peoples' > > thoughts on him? Re: (313) Meanwhile, back in Detroit......
I never meant to imply that we shouldn't discuss non-detroit artists on the list. I think Jus-Ed is fantastic, I have a couple of his records, and I really really like them. It's just that tons of people think he is FROM detroit, like currently living there, but he's just not. He's straight up from connecticut, never lived in detroit even as far as i know. I was just pointing out the fact. By all means, I strongly encourage the discussion of non-detroit-born artists on the list. Most 313 members don't live in Detroit. Fact.
