(313) Oliverwho Factory - Future Funk ... other news
Just got "rhythm" [digitally, sadly can't enjoy their mid-90's style Detroit pen & ink artwork as much]... a lot of UR / Omar-S / Mike Clark influences.. What other releases should I look out for? also hot - new SETY - Mogane on Circus Co. Sounds like a film soundtrack by David Sylvian that morphs into loungey, laid back house. And .. The Trickster by Daze Maxim .. a little mnml for some people's tastes but I am digging it. I can visualize it in a Dan Bell set this coming Monday. +odd

If you're into booty, ghetto house, juke, all that, then here's the woefully underadvertised Sunday afterparty to end them all. It's the launch party for electrobounce.com too. I'll be the one with the British accent and the Global Fire t-shirt, so come and say hello if you come down. flyer: http://djguy.info/gigs/Movement_08_20080525_20080526_Detroit/Movement_08_Electrobounce_Afterparty_20080525.jpg and we're playing at the festival on the Monday from 2pm->10pm at the Red Bull stage, complete with the X-Menn jit crew. flyer: http://djguy.info/gigs/Movement_08_20080525_20080526_Detroit/Movement_08_Electrobounce_Festival_Lineup_20080526.jpg Hopefully see you there. -Guy

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE QUENTIN HARRIS - THE PRODIGAL SONS RETURN FIRST MAJOR APPEARANCE IN DETROIT HI TEK SOUL DETROIT: SATURDAY MAY 24TH 2008 – MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND Richard Maher Agency, Transmat Records and Blubuni present together for the first time Quentin Harris and Derrick May. The Innovator (May) and a new generation Deep House Guru (Harris) are brought together exclusively for Hi Tek Soul. In the heyday of the 70’s and 80’s, Detroit’s Ken Collier was spinning the predecessor of House Music alongside the first techno records, Bringing this genre of music to the masses for the first time. He represented the pure Detroit Underground in a way that no one could ever attempt. In the midst of this revolution Derrick May was pounding out the hits and laying down the groundwork for what was to become Detroit Techno. Thus taking Ken Collier’s music to the next level. Derrick, the electronic legend, arranges classic Detroit tracks in a timeless fashion: frantic and beat-heavy yet soulfully warm. Derrick May is one of the founding fathers of Detroit Techno, the beginning of its many variants and particularly of acid house. The other, Collier rooted DJ, Quentin Harris came on the scene in the Motor City after being inspired by many legends such as Prince and the genres of Motown and Techno. He spent time in Detroit getting educated at Record Time and learning names such as Derrick May, Ken Collier and The Electrifying Mojo. Shortly after establishing himself in Detroit, Quentin started producing the Masterminds, which lead him to NYC in 1998. Quentin Harris is now recognized as one of the leaders of the Deep House scene. Quentin’s work has rejuvenated a so-called tired and saturated field. Indeed Harris resists the very notion of working within genre boundaries. Venue: 1515 Broadway Detroit, (1515 Broadway, Detroit, MI) Time: Doors Open 10 PM until late. Tickets: Pre-sale tickets $20 or at the Door Outlets: Spectacles (230 E Grand River Detroit, MI 313.963.6886) Online Sales: www.313rd.com Movement Festival: Hi-TEK SOUL Booth - Hart Plaza Detroit, May 24th : 12 PM Onwards. RE: (313) ride from ny to detroit?
Thankfully, no law enforcement-related people will see this on-list conversation, so they won't be alerted to look out for people pushing the limit a bit to get to the festival next weekend ... (will they?) :) -Original Message- From: Jeffrey Richards [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, May 19, 2008 6:19 AM To: 313 Subject: Re: (313) ride from ny to detroit? --- kent williams <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > My advice is be just as careful through > Pennsylvania. It gets even worse if you have Michigan plates driving through there.
