(313) new Electrofunk site

2012-09-13 Thread james . hurlbut
Got some spam today about the new Electrofunk site. Mr. De's got some
unusual deals to say the least. I'm kind of hesitant to put in my cc
info since I can't seem to figure out how to get my 5 free downloads
for 2 days with the free membership but it says for 17.99 a month you
get:

Unlimited Full downloads with no Drm of the best of our catalog
Unlimited downloads of our recording sessions posted the following
day from there recording
Label Partner membership provides for digital distribution via our
partnership with the Orchard/IODA

Skype with Mr.De? to work out a plan for your release
Weekly updates of unreleased and out of print material

Or you can get your computer repaired for $50. It's kind of
fascinating in a post music industry meltdown sort of way.

Holy crap, this is super inspiring! An interesting combination of
classic techno and booty sounds and it's all live. Looking forward to
more.

Hi all,

It's been ages since I posted anything new up here, as I've mostly been
very busy with my new family over the past few years. But I'm pleased
to say that I'm finally starting to do some new music again!

The main thing I'm working on is 'The Pace', a new live project that
I'm doing with Guy Thackeray (DJ Guy, Non Stop DJs, Global Fire). This
is a fully live act, with everything 100% programmed and played on the
spot, nothing pre-recorded or planned (some more info pasted below)

We've got a couple of sets online that I reckon some of you might enjoy
- plenty of Detroit and Chicago inspired goodness:

The Pace

The Pace is the new project from two DJ/producers previously known for
their techno and ghettotech output.  Jamming and looping up everything
live on keys and drum machines, the duo ridebetween riff-laden techno,
funked up electro and raw house jams, with no backing tracks,
nothingpre-recorded, and no guess where they’ll end up taking the sound.

Both well known producers and DJs in their own fields, Matt Chester and
Guy Thackeray have beenfriends since first working together as resident
selectors and promoters of London’s Flashpoint partiesin 2004.  Each
went on to play clubs and festivals from spots all over Europe to DEMF
in Detroit, but itwas another 7 years before they got their gear
together in the studio to see how live a live act could be.

Matt Chester is known for his exhilarating 3 deck DJ sets and livesets
which range from deepmelody-heavy techno to jacking dancefloor funk,
the live sets all performed on the fly on hardware synths and
drummachines.  He’s played alongside the likes of Underground

Terrence Dixon to DJ 3000 and his releases on the 11th Hour
Recordingslabel have been favourites of DJs from Laurent Garnier to
Anthony “Shake” Shakir and Convextion.DMC magazine described him as
'one of todays most exciting techno talents”.

Guy Thackeray has DJed around the world with his quick-fire mixing and
genre-crossing style.  Takinghis influence from fast-paced Detroit
selectors like DJ Assault, DJ Godfather and 12 Tech Mob, hissets as DJ
Guy have mixed up electro, techno, bass and ghetto beats with the kind
of turntable tricksyou don’t normally see outside of hiphop.  His
productions and remixes lean towards the more melodicend of hook-heavy
ghetto tracks, gracing the crates of underground booty DJs and big

tracks from scratch as they goand taking you along for the
white-knuckle ride.

then went to Discogs to see that he's not released anything since 2008 and

Re: (313) The Pace - new live act & sets

2012-09-13 Thread Matt Chester
That's exactly what we do. Empty drum machines and no synth
sequences. Guy plays all the keys live and loops them up as he goes,
he doesn't start with any patterns, and I use 3 drum machines all empty
to begin with. The only thing that is any way prepared are some of the
patch banks.

On that Plex session we cut off the first couple of loops of the
recording where we built up those patterns
