(313) Dj Bone (Subject Detroit) at Rogue Dublin October 5th
Ghetto Jacking with the legendary Dj Bone (Subject Detroit) and Eamonn Doyle (D1) Rogue 64 Dame Street Dublin 2 Doors 10pm 15 Euros It's no accident that two letters always precede Bone's name whenever he's on the bill. First and foremost, Bone is a DJ---in the truest sense. When he spins, it's as if the turntables and the mixer become a physical extension of his body. He employs every possible technique in the disc jockey arsenal masterfully: blending, scratching, backspinning, no monitors or headphones; unrivaled in his use of the fader switch and he incorporates them all into every set. From his standing room only residency performances to after-hours spots, he rocks every show as if it's his last. What the general public and far too many DJs don't realize is that Bone spins as much for his own enjoyment as he does for the audience. It's a compulsion that only those who live for what they do possess and those who don't can never understand: Bone lives to spin-it's a necessary part of his existence. His dedication to the art of dance music and DJing is so untainted and intense that the tales of his confrontational encounters with flashy booking agents and "big name" djs are already the stuff of legend. No hype or trends, just a relentless drive and passion to take the party to another level. That's why he's one of the few spin masters other DJs hate to follow. Dj Bone will be at Rogue on October 5th supported by D1's Eamonn Doyle for a night of shock and awe on three turntables. Be sure not to miss this rare and exclusive event. http://www.myspace.com/djbone313 http://www.myspace.com/subjectdetroit http://www.myspace.com/ghettojackingcollective http://www.myspace.com/roguedublin

RE: (313) counterpoint - shadow passage - april 2007
I really appreciate the kind words. I have had an extremely positive reaction to this mix. I put quite a bit of work into making the play lists for my monthly mixes, pathways for a musical journey. I recently moved to Dublin, Ireland and I started my first residency here last Thursday. The style of music was well received. I have Mays mix all lined up I just have not hit the record button on it yet. There are simply too many good tracks on Beatport these days! Thanks again. I haven't seen any replies from people yet, so I wanted to get in touch to voice my thanks for sharing this. I have been listening to it on and off over the last week and have been really digging it. In a way, I am a little surprised because my knee-jerk reaction was 'eugh, trancey' but to be honest, that is a bollocks reaction anyway. I find it ideal for my drive to work, and it also works well in the gym! Bonus! Anyway, top stuff. RE: (313) Aril Brikha
Tiesto is probably a better example than Derrick May for the point you are trying to make. Aril Brikha is a modest little guy from Sweden. I have this wonderful memory of dancing like a maniac directly in front of his setup at a live performance in Paris. After his set I said "thank you!" and he replied "no, thank you! You really kept my energy going!" (or something to that effect). What's not to respect? I listened to his Kompakt release several times today trying to see why anyone would call it crap; I like it very much actually. But either opinion is subjective. I realized what a waste of energy it was to think of music in terms of love or hate, good or crap. I either like something or I am indifferent. But that takes the fun out of beard stroking techno snobbery. Judging from the responses already I am going to assume that this post is going to spark off a few more interesting responses. -Original Message- From: Robert Taylor [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, April 07, 2007 2:04 PM To: Christopher O'Grady; list 313 Subject: RE: (313) Aril Brikha Well it's true - look what happened to Derrick May. RE: (313) MIDI controllers for dummies
The auto beat matching in traktor is and will always be crap. Not that I mind... It keeps the 12 year olds frustrated. I have been playing with traktor using my oxygen 8 for about a year now just for kicks. If you take the time to make precise beat grids for tracks then you NEVER have to deal with tempo again. It takes some effort to sit down and make them but I can't imagine trying to get my tempo without a pair of 1200s or CDJs anyways. However... The main problem I am having with traktor and taking the time to set these beat grids is the fact that you cannot write them to the id3 tag of the mp3 itself. It must only be a few kb of information and it seems easy enough to implement. If you ever lose your collection or want to move the tracks to another computer you lose all your hard work making them. Make beat grids... It's an absolute laugh being able to play anything in your crate without the initial beat matching process. Ripped vinyl can be tedious because you have to set anywhere from 3 to 10 grid markers in them. But pretty much everything on beatport is digital and you only need one at the beginning. I am only saying this because it seems like 90% of the people I have talked to who are using traktor have no idea that they exist. Heck... Once NI start including beat grids into ID3 tags I don't see why ALL of the tracks sold on beatport would not have them already. And as long as it's not a proprietary thing I don't see why they would not work with torq and all of the other clones out there. I just moved to Ireland and my decks are still in Paris. *sigh* cTp -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, March 12, 2007 8:25 PM To: kent williams Cc: list 313 Subject: Re: (313) MIDI controllers for dummies >is that the tempo adjust knob is too coarse to lock down two tracks. you could also set the lsb and msb of the control to say lsb=120 msb=130 (depending on what you are spinning) which would give you more control. - Original Message - From: kent williams <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Monday, March 12, 2007 4:14 pm Subject: Re: (313) MIDI controllers for dummies To: list 313 <313@hyperreal.org> > I have an X-Session controller and it is actually really nice. RE: (313) Claude VonStroke
It used to be interesting to say I am from Detroit as I have floated around Europe for the last 6 odd years. Lately in Ireland the word Detroit from my mouth is followed by "put your hands up!" from theirs, with the obligatory little dance. Ohh... I'm sorry I meant Canada. I am from Canada sorry... A lovely city... cTp -Original Message- From: Cyclone Wehner [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, February 24, 2007 7:21 AM To: Odeluga, Ken Cc: list 313 Subject: Re: (313) Claude VonStroke I did the most hilarious interview with Fedde Le Grand and he actually made the record as a tribute to Detroit as the home of house music and the Warehouse. nothing to do with techno. RE: (313) Claude VonStroke
I saw him in Dublin about a few months ago as well and I really enjoyed his set, deep techy and funky. I spent most of the night on the dancefloor. No regrets. Dirtybird 006 Claude Vonstroke - Beware of the bird is a brilliant release. But I am a sucker for that sound anyways, especially the stuff coming out on Audiomatique right now. First I thought he was German and now I find out he is from the burbs of Detroit. But I guess Barclay Crenshaw does not exactly roll off the tongue like Claude Vonstroke. cTp -Original Message- From: Cyclone Wehner [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, February 22, 2007 10:43 PM To: Svagr, Jodie Cc: Placid; list 313 Subject: Re: (313) Claude VonStroke I looked him up on imdb - he was location manager for Batman & Robin or something!
