RE: (313) Shake : Levitate Venice EP on Morphine Records
Andrew Thanks for the help. I can see you've been rinsing this one with it appearing in 8 shows! Unfortunately only one mix still appears to be available (I presume the presence of a link indicates this) but I can't get that one to go ("Object not found") either. But no worries as there are 2 alternatives for me: 1. The record is available at a shop - in which case I can check clips there 2. It isn't - in which case I probably don't want to hear it as if I do like it I will then get frustrated at not being able to get it and it will join the list of records I want but missed. So transitory has the nature of vinyl become, with people only daring to do small runs, that things get on this list all to easily now. The list is getting big and I find it healthier just to rip it up and not spend daft amounts of time ferreting out things I might want but missed at the time. As it is Shake was kind enough to drop me a line to say that it looks like those copies weren't promos, the label only wanted to do 500, they're gone and that looks like the end of it. The shame is I can totally understand a label doing small runs with seemingly diminishing sales, they've got to keep viable (this isn't meant to ignite a "is vinyl dead?" / "no, indie bands are selling loads of 7s!" debate) but observing how things run at my local shop it's obvious that it works 2 ways and all the limited runs are part responsible for the diminution - sometimes they could sell many times over what they get. I'll go in for a record and it's like "no, you missed that one" when I am right on watching their website for new stuff and live just round the corner. In times past when there wasn't such a through-put of material I reckon a record could be shipped in, sit on the shelf for a while, have people gradually hear it out and about and rate it / hear about how good it was and then it would slowly get picked up - a "sleeper". What chance of that now? (313) Shake : Levitate Venice EP on Morphine Records
This came out in Feb? I didn't hear about it, did I miss it on here? Somebody tell me about it - maybe including where there might be clips and I can buy it from? Mr. Shakir?

RE: (313) Pub - "Summer"
This just got me going to look at the Vertical Form catalogue (to see "Pub" was on a Vertical Form comp I have). I never realised they put out so much. Nothing to do with 313 (awaits tenuous connection) but I'm sure we can suspend relevance for the passing of another great.
RE: (313) what's new with REAL Detroit releases?
In a small defence of this I said I wasn't impressed at the time but with the caveat that, as is always the way with me nowadays, I hadn't yet had time to listen properly (I've had conversations with one or two on here and, I think, posted before about how I need to sort my musical life out to not spending all my time listening to clips of what came out this week to decide if I need to buy it and spending more time listening to what I do buy as a result of doing all that!). For once I have actually managed to give something more than a cursory once over; because the vinyl only had some of the tracks I borrowed someone's CD to put on my mp3 player (morally defensible when I already paid for the more expensive format I hope) with the result that I gave it a few listens while on holiday recently. While it's no Metaphor I do now like a few tracks which lifts it out of "really bad" for me. > From: JT Stewart [mailto:etmach...@gmail.com] > Sent: 28 January 2009 15:34 > > That K Larkin album was really bad too. > Dope Jams has a hilarious description of it on their site.
(313) In search of crews from Budapest & Sofia
First of all are there any peepz on here from either Budapest and/or Sofia who are involved in putting parties on in those cities who might be interested in having us play over there in return for a (part funded) return trip to Manchester to play at one of our nights? If you don't know much about our night you won't find much more at www.thatamazingthing.com because it needs updating right now, but hopefully soon and there are a few more words at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=13145552414 if you are joined up to that thing. Second, maybe if you live there but aren't promoting anything you might suggest how I might hook up with those that are? Third, maybe you don't live there but being good, jet-setting 313 techno tourists you know someone that does that I can ask the above of? Or, fourth and last, if all these fail can anyone give me advice as to forums etc. or any other way where I might get some contact? Our best bet so far is to try to find record shops there and enquire via them. Another of our number is pursuing this line at the mo. Sorry for the not-spam-but-still-business-talk but maybe cultural exchange (possibly but not necessarily 313 related!) is allowed? ;-)
RE: (313) what's new with REAL Detroit releases?
Ooops, sorry, in my previous post I'd read it that someone was going to do a Shake mix for 313 and similar interested parties, didn't cotton on that we were talking about Rush Hour rereleases till I read this. Also good news! Yeah, make it long as Shake records are something I'm short on (only have about 6, the ones I have I love) and I need education! RE: (313) Mixing Software Question
No I don't think you can live adjust easy and yes, you'd need DJ software for that. But from what Arturo says he doesn't need to do that? I could be getting it wrong but I understood he was going to record the vinyl bits either side and then "glue" them together with the digital file "post production"? If that's so there's lots of things you could use but I thought of Audacity cos it's free and easily available and once you've installed it it's a useful tool you'll probably end up using for other things. If the digital file is an mp3 as mentioned you'll need to get a free coder / decoder to use with Audacity, I think the one I've got before is called Lane or something (but I can't remember really). > -Original Message- > From: Odeluga, Ken [mailto:ken.odel...@dowjones.com] > Sent: 27 January 2009 10:41 > To: fran...@thatamazingthing; 313@hyperreal.org > Subject: RE: (313) Mixing Software Question > > Perhaps, if one can easily adjust pitch live on that - I can't remember. > > I think it's going to be fiddly with anything but DJ software tbh > > -Original Message- > From: fran...@thatamazingthing [mailto:fran...@thatamazingthing.com] > Sent: Tuesday, January 27, 2009 10:26 AM > To: 313@hyperreal.org > Subject: RE: (313) Mixing Software Question > > > Audacity? > > > -Original Message- > > From: Arturo Lopez [mailto:arturo.m.lo...@gmail.com] > > Sent: 26 January 2009 20:08 > > To: Three-One-Three > > Subject: (313) Mixing Software Question > > > > As a Luddite vinyl-only player, I have a software question. I usually try to help with these (though others generally beat me to it). But here I seem to have a choice of a page with loads of shows etc. on so I can't tell which one you're talking about (and you seem to have to register before listening) or spending 25 mins downloading the whole shebang from Sendspace? Unless you make it easy (try clipping the bit you want out and making that available) I'll have to pass. RE: (313) Octave One at Berghain, Berlin this Saturday night
Fred >random old guy This will probably help - I'm an old guy and I don't think it's done me any harm there. Think the door peepz there want as mixed and interesting a crowd as possible. Right now that probably means not another late 20s Brit flown in from London to the new Prague for the weekend. I heard from a stateside friend that if the doorguys talk to him he emphasises he's not a Brit (not a good calling card at Berlin doors now). (Unlike me) you probably don't have to worry about being too deranged when you get to the door as that might not fly well either. Think I heard second hand one of the guys say they're on the lookout for people who are not being genuine in some way (not much help). (Depending on what time O1 are on) I think it's probably easier to get in after the queue dies down, which I imagine is after 7am? (can more knowledgeable headz give an accurate figure for this?). >(and when, I don't want to wait around 6 hours for the guys to play) The running order is usually posted on Berghain's MySpace a day or 2 before. > Don't have a hotel yet but I'll be making those arrangements Friday. RE: (313) New Music
Wondering if I'm in "musically accessible" mood at the mo or is there loads of good stuff coming out? Over the last few months my record collection's rate of expansion has been mercifully slow, over the last weeks I'm back to averaging an inch a week or something (and back to thinking of how I need take advantage of the downturn to buy a bigger flat to house them all). Anyway this ramble has just used up all the time I had to review them so it's one liners only ;-) Liquid Liquid : Optimo (Matthew Dear remix) - doesn't sound like the original does sound good, kinda minimal but has funk Francesco Tristano / Moritz - covered already Fluid Ounce presents (compilation sampler) - not 313 but nice house Mock & Toof : Underwater - as above, main side has vocal I don't like but the instrumental on the B is sweet Markus Enochson & Subliminal Kid : Schmutts - quite like the toughest cut on here Redshape : Blood Into Dust - the usual Brothers Vibe : Natural High / Papol : Lapidus From Island - I like only the deeper end of their (Brothers) vibe and that's where this is, don't know the other artist but it's decent too Novell Sound 01 - 3 tracks by another artist I don't know, Levon Vincent, and 1 by DJ Jus Ed, not down with the latter but like the Levon V tracks, Basic Channel-esque but with enough to set them apart from the mass Eddie Fowlkes : Tiazoe Project - LARGE, his best for a while and a welcome return after the horror of the Doors cover c2 & Moritz : Recomposed - was very dubious when news of this surfaced here but digging most of what I've heard, though not all and not listened properly yet Fuse presents Deetron sampler 1 - said about the Redshape above on Styrax Leaves "the usual", the track on here (an exclusive apparently) is better than that, real nice with Mr. Fingers touch, other tracks are good too, in fact based on these samplers I'll be checking Deetron when he spins in Manchester in a couple of weeks Move D : Cube EP - I like Move D, this might not be his best but it's still cool, A a steady number, B more interesting; track listing describes it as 3 parts, come across as one number with nice development was just checking the new Modeselektor with Rustie & Dettmann down my local, sounded good, put one aside
RE: (313) New Music
Hey is there an 313 archive working at the mo? The resynthesize one only seems to go to July at the moment. I needed it as I was going to reply to another post in this thread but Kent's was the only one I got. Anyway I was going to say I was glad to see everyone talking about these Theo releases. It must be a real return to form by him; after really liking recent output (e.g. Sound Sculptures 1 vinyl, Kuniyuki remix, Children Of The Drum, The Grand Son Of Detroit Techno) I was worried I was joining the homogenous mass. However I'm feeling better now I find these have no appeal to me whatsoever. > >> It seems like both the new Theo Parrish records have dropped, SPACEBUMPS > >> / LOVE TRIUMPHANT & Going Down stairs, anyone got them and are they any > >> good?? > > > > Apart from Spacebumps I think these were on the recent CD.
