Re: Drexciya

2021-05-13 Thread gavin morrissey
I'm glad there was a response that carries some kind of weight. That
article was an outrageous and unjustified slur on Clone, who have been
supportive of Drexciya and Detroit techno since the early 90s. It is known
that Drexciya, Dopplereffekt and all the offshoots made considered choices
when deciding what labels would release their music, Clone was one of them.

It also seems to be calling out Abdul Haqq and his graphic novel, which I
had assumed was legit and approved.

really loving Gerald Mitchell's recent output on Italian label Mother Tongue

The Metamorphosis of Twookie Wonder Brown is almost 15mins of P-Funk
dopeness, even has the comic book style artwork like you used to get in
Parliament albums. B-side is a track from Celebrity BBQ Sauce album.

Another Day EP was a Los Hermanos release on the same label from late 2020,
uplifting gospel house on the main track.

Re the Nuron/Likemind stuff, don't miss Steve Pickton's (Stasis) label
Fencepiece, also reissuing some serious hard to find classics as well as
new material

Re: Vainqueur - Mauve

2021-02-16 Thread gavin morrissey
Re discogs, I do seem to remember a good few years back, there being some
debate on discogs about the colour of various Basic Channel related vinyls,
some people insisted that they weren't black and that if you held them up
to the light they were slightly translucent brown/mauve/etc, and started
entering these as separate releases. But in the end I guess it was decided
they weren't separate releases, just variations from the manufacturing
process so these got removed/merged. Maybe there was a mauve Vainqueur that
you saw, now gone, rather than a Vainqueur release titled Mauve?

I always feel guys like Juan only DJ because they have to to keep their
profile up, it's just the nature of dance music these days.
No matter how good you are as a producer, you get very little notice (or
money) without touring and djing. I've never been fussed going to see Juan
play when he's in town, I' stick to listening to his timeless productions.

great, 'cause I don't have that one and it's rather expensive, cheers!

Re: (313) P's Vinyl Underground Mix

2008-11-18 Thread gavin morrissey
just want to agree with what Francis said here, I only have great
experiences with Vinyl Underground and they are definitely in it for
the love of music. they push artists before Juno has even heard of
them and had the opportunity to undercut. they maybe lacking in 100%
professionalism and that's what happened here I would guess, rather
than cynically ripping people off

Re: (313) Banging the box...

2008-04-18 Thread gavin morrissey
anyone know when that Planet Harrier is coming out?
also, the version of Black Thoughts on the Prime Numbers EP is an
edited version to the one on Psychostasia 01
also, also, he released a Japan only CD "My Electronic Mind" which is
well worth getting
also, also, also, he's had about 4 EPs up as "coming soon" on the
Psychostasia website for a year now
anyone know what's up with his label? I know he moved recently but it
would be great to have the label up and running again.
yeah, I like Reggie Dokes :)
