No dance club in Michigan can stay open til 6. Its flat out illegal. There are some known places that the cops typically don't bust (gay clubs and goth clubs) theyre still not legal. If you have a food permit you can stay open til 4, if all of the liquor even the stuff on the floor is gone by 2:30 and theres no dancing. - Original Message - From: "Grammenos, Peter" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "'Kookie'" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; "Derek VerLee" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; <313@hyperreal.org> Sent: Friday, May 30, 2003 4:15 PM Subject: RE: (313) busted parties > > The parties that got busted (the ones I know of anyway) had permits to stay > open till 6am though. > > -Original Message- > From: Kookie [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Friday, May 30, 2003 4:12 PM > To: Derek VerLee; 313@hyperreal.org > Subject: Re: (313) busted parties > > > you forget that its pretty much illegal to go after 2 anywhere. even places > like mission detroit where they took extra means to go bust free and legal > (and they did) are not 100% legal > > the way the michigan law is written it is not legal to dance after the hour > of 2 am except on new years eve > > hence why you should support the effort to get the drinking time pushed back > to at least 4. > > I've always wondered why people don't do more events in Windsor as its alot > easier to do an event there all night long, legally > ----- Original Message - > From: "Derek VerLee" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: <313@hyperreal.org> > Sent: Friday, May 30, 2003 3:08 PM > Subject: (313) busted parties > > > > Late on the thread.. email problems... anyhue, > > > > How many parties that get busted, now-a-days, get busted > > due to venues serving after 2am? Re: (313) busted parties
When I was leaving the KMS afterparty there were cops rolling in deep into that, so I assumed that it was going to get busted, but after talking to Pete G. and Mark F., who were inside, it was not. The funniest bit was some guy standing in line outside who made the mistake of asking one of the cops standing outside it the party was going to be shut down. Reply: " What??!??, you WANT me to shut it down? To which he says no, then: "Then SHUT UP!!" I guess she wasn't having a good day policing the wonderful streets of Detroit. I can definitely understand beign a little rude when dealing with drunken idiots, as I'm sure they had to at some point that night, but the guy that this was aimed at was lucid. Lucid enough to not want to pay 25 bucks to go to a party that could get shut down 5 minutes later. As far as permits go, I don't know how many places actually bother to get them. One of the loopholes of doing afterparties at galleries was the fact that they can hold events for any time periods. As long as the event could be shown to be an "artistic" event, it could go on forever. I don't know how true that was this year. My highlight this year was listening to Dan Bell's set at the Underground Stage, as well as Buzz in the MI tent. Another highlight was the freestyle programming doen by Ayro at the beginning of his set on the Movement Stage, followed by the impromptu dancing by the ladies and gent clad in brown overtones. Nice! Another big + was seeing my NYC peeps (Pete G. and Mark F.), Ms. Potts (you reminded me of Brad Pitt in True Romance chilling in the crib 24/7), as well the French connection (you know who you are), and of course those international techno vagabonds (Technotourists, Inc.). Shout out complete... As for all of the drama that ensues from a gathering such as this, I must say what's more important than all of this BS is to hang with people you know, meet people you don't, and just enjoy the company (for the most part) of people that enjoy techno to some degree or another. The cops also shut down numerous private loft parties that weekend. My theories: They don't think the festival is going to happen next year. The number of afterparties has gotten out of hand. no doubt. my boyfriend and i were standing on the sidewalk on jefferson after leaving the plaza when he turns to me and asks "do you think the cops know that there's a kid laying on the ground?" sure enough, there's a small boy on the ground in the middle of the sidewalk with a few passersby standing around him looking confused. five feet away, with their backs to the scene, the cops are hassling some drunk dude in a marijuana necklace. they didn't even notice the child on the sidewalk until we tapped them on the shoulder. way to serve and protect, boys. Re: (313) busted ?????
Well, this is kinda amusing... on Friday night we were walking around - heading towards Greektown area to get some food, and this cop car pulls over another car into an alley right in front of us blocking the sidewalk. The passenger cop gets out and says 'better go around behind the car or you might get caught in the cross fire" and then laughs. Then the driver cop gets out. He's wearing a skin-tight combat/swat stylee cop suit withblack combat boots & had a small mohawk. We thought he looked very Nitzer Ebb or Skinny Puppy-esque. They were both white guys in their mid/late twenties. It did suck that the paxahau party ended so early - the space was kewl and yeah I heard rumours of it being extended. Also some people were saying richie Hawtin was gonna play there downstairs but then that was just rumour. The cops were pretty harassing outside and didn't want us standing around talking to people we met. I suppose that was loitering. Oh well. Dorks. The cops seemed to spend a lot of time over near the booth that was selling the shirts that said "I Love D.I.C.K.". lisa [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: or DC on sunday when these guys drove up in a hudge suv and start some sh*t with my friends and then drive down the road and are out of there car fighting with locals. the cop who broke up the party just chose not to see any of that even though it happened right in front of her. i just think she was scared of the ghetto. i also liked the guys sellin mushrooms on the corner of congress and woodward, the guy standing next to them smoking a blunt, and the cops on the corner never noticed any of this. oh detroit. scotto lanisng, mi. plaztikjezuz.com I like the parties that get busted within view of people selling drugs on the corner. thats detroit irony for you *cough laurent garnier cough* -Joe

One more: Organic w/ Joe Claussel was busted at about 2:30 or 3. Before Joe even got on. lack of turn out plus the bust (plus paying $20 for about 1/2 hour of dancing) made the whole thing a bummer. Re: (313) Busted. -- control 4 (my views)
personally, I think the city did not want a bunch of messed up kids walking out of city club @ 8 am to greet the trukey day parade. I also only saw one person with booze, but there could have been more? it is a shame that the actions of a couple of morons could ruin the whole evening of the masses, is this america? oh wait yea it is. maybe more then 5% of people our age should start voting. I'm curious who were those punk rock cops. they were breaking up the party, then roaming the halls looking to buy drugs. they were yelling at me in the party to leave, but I was with some friend who are phyically handicapped and we had to wait for the party to clear out, then I ran in to them in the elevator and they had a totally different attude saying "it's sure is ashame they closed down that party" in his I'm a now simpathic cop now trying to bust you for something else voice. I will say for the 45 min to an hour that I was there I really did not see the people I usually see at richie parties, the crowd seemed to be more preppy then usual. it also seemed more roudy then usual. I do have to give it up for the minus crew in pulling something together at the last molment and sending everyone to the works. that was very cool. and to whom ever talked to the people at the works to let us in there @ 6am thanks ( I think it was clark but not sure) I do hope they do something else to fix this as almost everyone from my crew that come down from lansing did not get in and those who did recieved less then an hour. I have faith something will happen. thank you the minus crew for making an attemp to do something cool, no thanks to the fools with to much booze (too drink before two) and the over zelous DPD scotto lansing, mi. - Original Message - From: "::)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Dan Sicko" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; "Pryor, Ryan N" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: <313@hyperreal.org> Sent: Thursday, November 28, 2002 10:58 PM Subject: Re: (313) Busted. -- control 4 > this sounds like they were just breaking balls. > > maybe someone forgot to pay the cops. > > - Original Message - > From: "Dan Sicko" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: "Pryor, Ryan N" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Cc: <313@hyperreal.org> > Sent: Thursday, November 28, 2002 10:55 PM > Subject: Re: (313) Busted. -- control 4 > > > > Doesn't the law have to do with the *sale* of alcohol? > > > > -d > > > > On Thursday, November 28, 2002, at 10:27 PM, Pryor, Ryan N wrote: > > > > > word is too many people had alcohol on the floor past 2:30 > > > > > > cops came about 3 > > > > > > -Original Message- > > > From: Dan Sicko [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > Sent: Thursday, November 28, 2002 10:21 PM > > > To: MikeD > > > Cc: 313@hyperreal.org > > > Subject: Re: (313) Busted. -- control 4 > > > > > > > > > So when and exactly why did Control IV break up? > > > > > > -d > > > > > > On Thursday, November 28, 2002, at 11:08 AM, MikeD wrote: > > > > > >> sven vath was amazing, but the detroit PD wasn't having it. > > >> > > >> > > >> > > >> > > > > >
