RE: (313) carl craig and rhythm&sound last saturday

2006-09-06 Thread Jacob Arnold
I caught Rhythm & Sound in Chicago, and I thought they were great. Their
set was in the tradition of Jamaican sound systems, hence the lack of
mixing.

I'm pretty sure there were a bunch of custom edits. They were playing on a
laptop with Serato. There were some really amazing riddims as they got
deep into digital dub late in the set. Some of the dubs were pretty close
to their techno output.

I did a brief report for Gridface here:

I wish I could have stayed until 3:00, but I had to leave Santa Fe at 5:00
a.m. to get to Chicago.

Cheers,
Jacob

You missed the best part of C2 set. I started to lose interest towards the
end as well. He played some Paperclip People stuff earlier, some Mills (The
Bells & a cut from the b-side earlier then that... Alarms maybe?), and a
track from Martin Buttrichs's new release on Planet E.

It was nice to see some head out as the weather did suck. R&S was not what
I expected either , we left shortly into their set.

well, i wish i could say it was a blast, but i missed all but the last half
hour of c2's set :(

it was raining and nasty all afternoon driving down, and about the first
thing i hear once i get to the dancefloor is strings of life.
carl was letting every track play out, so he only dropped two or three more
tracks by the time 7PM rolled around and rhythm and sound came on. they
played all dub tracks as expected (some people i have talked to since were
apparently expecting r&s to play techno). i don't even think they played any
of their own stuff. they never really mixed between tracks; they'd just cut
real quick or turn out the huge wall of sound effects. sound system was
great, much better than the crummy system at the providence noise fest the
night before :)
