Farley Mix?

2001-03-22 Thread stuffed bird
Hi,

Today someone posted about two classic track ID's in a Farley mix on
deephousepage.
I deleted that post, could someone please repost it so I know which mix we are
talking about?

Thanks,

So I am indeed in the right RA mix.

Just got to this track. I've only heard it a couple of times in the last 5
years, but I'm pretty sure that it's TC Curtis' "Shoulda Known Better". The
12" is on Virgin, but I haven't found a copy yet. It's a little hard to
find. It's from 1985, and judging from the sound of it, it's probably an
early Paul Simpson production or remix.

Good luck.

Track 2: great dark driving early house sound (reminds me of

That would be "Life" from Truth, on Big Beat from 1990(at the time when they
weren't yet an Atlantic affiliate - read: the good years). It's actually a
Ten City side project (Stingly/Burke), with On Top doing the background
vocals.

I agree it's very reminiscent of the Hercules / Jungle Wonz material.
However as surprizing as it is, there's no Marshall Jefferson connection. Or
at least, there wouldn't be any until the few Stingly/Jefferson collabs on
Strictly a couple of years later.

In any case, I'd be curious to listen to your Track #1 query, which mix is
it from (link)? As much as the words look familiar, I can't pinpoint from
which song they might be. Currently listening to farley252.ram...

If anyone can ID that first track, I'd like to know too, along with about
500 other tracks Farley played. Wouldn't it be great if there were
tracklists for everything on the deephouse page? :) We can dream...

If you ever find ten hours in your busy schedules, I highly recommend
checking out the 10th anniversary set by DJ Oji and DJ Pope at
http://www.pojirecords.com Defintely a lot of classics here, and DJ Oji may
even be able to ID some of them for you. A good deal of the mix is on the
classic tip, and DJ Oji is a Baltimore legend.

2 classic track IDs from Farley mix

2001-03-22 Thread Matt MacQueen
Hello,
just wondering if anyone can help me out with these 2 track IDs
from a Farley Jackmaster Funk mix from the mid-to-late 80's -
WGCI Chicago. Realize these are some long shots, (Eric Rinon or
Javier Drada might know?). Other tracks on the mix are by Jamie
Principal and Mr. Fingers, if that helps place the time frame.

Track 1: music is synthy slow house, kind of reminds me of John
"D-Train" Williams.

(THe chorus is a male vocal that goes):
"you should've known better,
you should've know better,
you should've know better,
you shouldn't mess with love"
(followed by a female response):
I'm goin I'm goin I'm goin I'm goin I'm goin, today..."

Track 2: great dark driving early house sound (reminds me of
Hercules - "7 ways") cut with spoken word male vocals-- here are
the words:

people people, you're are all naieve
why do you believe the things you believe
your dreams, your thoughts, your ideas
how were they conceived?

let's take time for reflection,
let's take time and give our life direction.

think about it, think about it.
how did all this madness begin?
what is all this talk of original sin?
where did it all come from,
where is it going, and why?

some of you claim not to believe in the spirit,
cause you cannot see it.
pain is somehting that you cannot see,
but you know it exists, because you can feel it...

this is true, this is true...
look around you, what do you see? Confusion.
could this be such a thing as humanity?
no brotha, brotha no.
it's you use me, and I use you.

it's she loves me, she loves me not?
naw, girl loves me for what I got it!
and that ain't right...

it's you use me, and I use you
for whatever purpose one deems true.
a life filled of exploitation,
a life filled with so much frustration,
one take from one another without hesitation,
but that's life.

they say get a life,
they say what have you accomplished?
what have you achieved?
why do you believe the things you believe?

in a life with so much responsibility,
yet everyone struggles to be, care-free
and the drummer keeps on drummin,
yes the beat goes on

what are you sitting there waiting for,
are you waiting for a miracle?
you're caught up in life cycle
waiting for your miracle.

some people say that life is a trap,
but reality has a hard, hard slap,
silly man, you want more, more, more, more,
free your mind... what is the search for?
why do you want more?

you live life in a smoke filled dream,
life is not what it seems.
and the drummer keeps on drummin...

peace,

The Deep House Pages now have a new Farley mix from
1987. Thought this may interest some of you on a
