Friend of mine told me about this "new" vinyl like substance which isn't
vinyl and which doesn't last as long as vinyl. I have one compilation from
AI records called "Station"

>From the words of industry legend ron Murphy, black vinyl is always used
time and again, but coloured or clear vinyl is usually the most pure, as
when you scrape off the last bits, it goes into the glob of black and
whatever else. He told me that common practice is also to have the black
vinyl at a lower waulity level, because it CAN be, but clear or coloured
vinyl has to be at a certain purity level just to be clear or coloured.
In other words, most black vinyl is of a lower level, but it doesn't HAVE
to be. Because of the higher purity level, though, I do believe that the
vinyl is a bit "softer", but that's why it plays better (and purportedly
does wear faster, but can be avoided with good weighting, etc)...

Not that these are facts, but still worth reading:
http://www.discogs.com/forums/topic?topic_id=6178

At least the view is aligned with my collection of clear LP's - especially
those whitey ones with many tracks. Unit Moebius' Kuiken on CFET - skips, Dan
Curtin on 33rpm - skips, so it's no wonder I try to avoid coloured pressings if
black is available. They're nice if you like to decorate :)

Good news since clear vinyl looks nice, but wears out very fast.

One of my last year highlights, Ai's Station compilation, has turned into more
snack-cracle-pop than music. First time I'm eventually thinking of getting
something as a fully priced cd also. Must be a marketing trick!

(even though it said that the highs are crisper on clear vinyl due to the
missing graphite, which act as a lubricant and thus muffling the sound)

Annoyingly, the Worldpay server is moving at a snail-like pace -
I guess it's being swamped with orders for the new BMB record...

brilliant track.
