Yes the early morning part of his set was very appreciable, i wish he
could go like this on night long.
I guess he was not as cheerful as he could be for his previous
anniversaries.

He still has a lots of kindness for the true lovers.

“Andy Green”, ok i've got it now, you're Mr Verdant :)
I love your mixes on http://soundcloud.com/verdant-recordings
I encourage to listen to them, it's not only 313, but you always have a
great deep selection.

See you!

PS: Benoit, i think we missed us again.

I agree with you about the music selection. The first 2 and last 1
hour were more to my deeper tastes with some interesting Chicago and
Detroit selections. (there was a Jamie Principle track early that
was a new one to me). Otherwise too much meh and anonymous tech house,
it was well put together but didn't enlighten or get deep. Pity as
I thought he might show us his adventurous side on such a special

I was ever so tempted to head out again to Delano Smith but after 48

Very good as always, some very nice moments, but maybe a little bit
to “Techno” straighforward, i don't remember hearing a `break`
(electro, dubstep, jungle or whatever), and it lacked of Detroit and
Chicago tracks of course :)

I wanted to thanks the english list member for this nice spontaneous

It was rather fun to meet in this thick smoke.

2009-01-13 Thread Gary . Girard

Haha, I liked Tiefshwarz when they first came on the scene - 'through a
little window' was a good track. I'll let you have that one though as
they've most likely lost their way & gone down hill. I don't know the track
I listed anyway !

Saying Jaguar should never be played again is controversial but it has been
overplayed & probably just needs to be left alone for a while : )

I'd take quite a few out of that list myself - Tiefschwarz?
Not so many tunes out of a 9 hour set really is it?
And no one should ever play Jaguar ever again :p

When I scanned through the tracklist, these names looked credible to me :

Omar S - Psychotic photosynthesis
Omar feat Stevie Wonder - Feeling You (Henrik Schwarz mix) Inner City -
Good Life (Carl Craig Remix) Marvin Gaye - I Heard it Through the Grapevine
( ? Remix) Henrik Schwarz & Amampando - I Exist Because of You (Dixons's
Stripped Down
Version)
Ane Brun - Headphone Silence (Henrik Schwarz Remix) Tiefschwarz - Liquid
cherries Bohannon - Let's start to dance again The Aztec Mystic - Jaguar
Slam - Azure (Samuel L Session Remix) Laurent Garnier - The Man With The
Red Face (Live?) Luke Solomon - Spirits Radiohead - Everything In Its Right
Place On The House With Marshall Jefferson - Ride The Rhythm Ralphi Rosario
feat Xavier Gold - You Used To Hold Me (Kenny's Mix) Layo & Bushwacka -
Love Story Stooges - I Wanna Be Your Dog The KLF - What Time Is Love

I think 'dreadful' might be a bit harsh, although to be fair there's a lot

Well Garnier has been playing a wide range of tracks from different styles

Found this link to a great, very long set by Laurent Garnier (still one of my
favourite dj's and has some 313 in his blood ) done on NYE in London (well Layo
and Bushwacka are not really 313 but they played a few tracks as well:-)

Thought some of u out there might like it, check his tracklist..some crazy
tunez are played. If u are not into, sorry to waste ur bandwith, just click and
delete.

Okay, sorry i understood ur mail wrong, sorry about that!

Dunno what Darren Emerson does these days, don't really care about him
either:-)

Well Garnier has been playing a wide range of tracks from different styles and
I like that, not sticking to one style or another and always brought with great
enthusiasm by a guy who knows his music.

I consider that worthy of comment

RE: (313) Laurent Garnier @ The End London, 31/12/22008 9 hrs!

2009-01-13 Thread Gary . Girard

Hey Martijn,

I went to this night so thanks for the link. From some of the tracks
listed, it looks like the music on the night was better than I remember. I
really can't recall hearing the Stooges or KLF in there !

I'm not the biggest Garnier fan but thought I should have one last night at
the End. There was such a great atmosphere in there, it's a shame it's
going to close. When it goes off in there it's up there with the best of
them.

I spoke to one girl who'd travelled down from Glasgow just because she
loved the atmosphere in there so much.

If only there was one last Mills appearance down there ...

Kind regards,
Gary

that would be cool as I think that has to be one of the best insights

I don't know which funster on here recently said that Laurent Garnier
was just as boring as Carl Cox but last Saturday mr. Garnier played a
pretty impressive set. Playing some floorfillers as well as some
deeper stuff but then anyone who plays Psychotic Funk from Stacey
Pullen is my hero anyway ;)

Oh and the liveset from G2G/Los Hermanos was def. the best set i
heard the guys play! If you don't have your ticket for the Liverpool
show yet get them ASAP! That live version of the Jaguar is rocking,
might i say that it is even better then the original one.

i would suspect that the payment comes in the form of having your idea
turned into realitywhether that is worth anything is up to the
contestant to decide ;)

on of my "designer" friends is entering, so i guess thats a decent form of

I wonder what form the payment would take?

This reminds me of Tom Middleton posting on a noticeboard to find out what
people's ultimate best ever compilation tracks would be. He used many of
these suggestions to make his 'The Trip' compilation and didn't credit
anyone on the sleeve. Presumably he also stacked a fair bit of cash from
this endeavour, which I imagine he spent on silly hats or something.

Not saying that Laurent Garnier is doing the same thing (i.e. a skank),
but whenever I hear of such 'opportunities' these days I'm always a touch
more cynical than previously

Owes a lil' something to Carl's More Songs... I think. It's Garnier's
equivalent to that LP. I loved that song Huis Clos from the first - stand
out for me.
Laurent named the LP for a factory near his crib in Paris - he has some
little Roald Dahl story he shares with visiting kids who ask about the puffs
of smoke...

Curious to know if this cloud making machine made the little cloud that

news from residentadvisor.net :-)

F Communications main man and one of the most credible, widely respected
and varied producers to represent the French has his new album slated
for delivery next month.

Laurent Garnier's new album, The Cloud Making Machine, is said to be his
most personal album to date. This, his forth album, is to be released on
the well distributed Mute record label on February 22.

The album features a host of collaborations with musicians across an
incredible array of genres and sounds. This includes Norwegian jazz
pianist Bugge Wesseltoft (who previously played on stage with Garnier at
Sonar), Tunisian singer and master oude player Dhafer Youssef, Scan X on
guitar (also responsible for sound design), Sangoma Everett with
percussion and vocals, Marc Chalosse on keyboards and Philippe Nadaud
with his saxophone. It is this mix of talent that mesh with Garnier's
incredible style to provide The Cloud Making Machine ñ not to be
confused with you're standard artist albums.

Laurent Garnier ñ The Cloud Making Machine Tracklist
01. The Cloud Making Machine Part 1
02. 9:01-9:06
03. Barbiturik Blues
04. Huis Clos
05. Act 1 Minotaure Ex.
06. First Reaction (V2)
07. Controlling The House Part 2
08. (I Wanna Be) Waiting For My Plane
09. Jeux D'enfants
10. The Cloud Making Machine Part 3

Personally looking forward to this like crazy. I hope there's a tour
planned and there's some stateside dates.

disappointed at first as it's almost all 'mood' music for lack of a less

started to grow on me.

still, there's only one classic garnier banger

and it's followed by one of the worst cuts ever recorded. Sorry Laurent,
but what a stinker.

Honorable mention goes to Stacey Pullen who even though lost me with his
programming got me with track selection, his Fabric release and
again...being around for a long time and working it!

There are many "known diseases" in techno circles and I think that there are
VERY FEW people on this list and beyond that can lay claim to being "all
clear."

Sorry Martin-I just joined last week.

anyway-All in all it was a good night.

First time hearing Garnier-I thought he started off good but like I said
before-the funk got lost by the earpiercing shyt. I'm not saying that he is
not a good dj or anything like that(before someone replys stating that) I
thought Koert Notario and Mike Huckaby were well worth my $15.

OK, the first time I saw him was good but since then I've seen a lot more
people, I still go along to see him as a few of the boys love him. He just
bores me to tears, he's like Cox - he's a student DJ for people to drunk or
fcked on class A's. I've seen him twice this year, probably a month apart,
I

won breakfast off one friend by naming the next three tracks after he
dropped Red 2.

I understand why people dig him, he's just not for me - I already have the
CD...

2004-04-27 Thread Ben Britz
i could have guessed he wouldnt be a favorite around these parts,
but generally speaking, people who dont like carl cox need to pick
their heads up from their laptops and remember what clubs are about.
he rocks it. sorry to be harsh, but i just dont get people who
criticize him. then again, to each his own i guess

as for garnier, i find that the "eclectic" bit of his sets doesnt
change much, but the techno portions (which are what i enjoy) are
generally pretty cutting edge and absorbing, even if he does have
some old favorites - what DJ doesnt? I saw garnier thursday at
centro-fly and thoroughly enjoyed myself. he certainly doesnt come
around often enough for me to get bored

then again, i'm a student, so what do i know...

Re: (313) Laurent Garnier

2004-04-26 Thread Kim B

Seriously though, someone made a comparison between Laurent Garnier and Carl
Cox. Well Ive not heard Laurent play many times, but Ive heard Carl play
plenty back when he used to live down here in Brighton and I never ever
rated him. Sure he was a pretty good mixer and could work 6 decks and stuff,
but I always found his track selection to be pretty uninspired. Like Laurent
Garnier he prided himself on being able to jump between all manner of
different genres, but that in itself does not a great DJ make when the
choice of tunes within those genres are pretty obvious or plain average.
---

I said this:
I think Carl Cox has a style a lot like Garnier and is an excellent mixer!
But I don't think he has the same range.

--

So StewartI totally agree with you. Carl Craig sets (even though his
quick mixing is great to witness) have never done it for me the way Laurent
sets have.

peace and respect

RE: (313) Laurent Garnier

2004-04-26 Thread martin dust
I'm totally chilled, no shouting here, just drinking tea and shooting the
breeze - there's no anger in my words just straight talking. I'm no cryptic
hater Y.

There's little point in me saying why I think Larry takes the easy way out -
you can't argue with blind faith...

Take it easy...

if you just said- he doens't do it for me, i would except with a shrug.
But you're making cryptic hater statements, like- he takes the easy route-
or whatever it was.

you offer no serious critique nor constructive critisim. just vague
statements. As a person who is often accused of being a hater (usually on
this list) I think I always back up my critism with specifics as to why i
feel that way, and suggestions on what could be done in my mind to not
make me feel that way. You've done none of the above. You're just getting

Re: (313) Laurent Garnier

2004-04-26 Thread Stewart Caig
All I can say is that Laurent currently has the latest release from my label
on his website playlist so hes taste cant be that bad :)

Garnier he prided himself on being able to jump between all manner of
different genres, but that in itself does not a great DJ make when the
choice of tunes within those genres are pretty obvious or plain average.

i can't confirm, since i was a little out of sorts. but i do know that i
didn't go down there until after midnight- then mike clark played forever
(3am?) and then moodymann played and THEN laurent, plus- Carl played for
about 30 minutes at the very end and the party was over at 6am sharp.

so doing the math- he couldn't have played for more than 2 hours at the
most. maybe even closer to 90 minutes.

all i really remember clearly was him dropping "Sweat", and then my world
ending.

Are you serious? That set was less than two hours? No way! That had to have
been longer.
If that really was a two hour set it was the most brilliant accomplishment

After doing this for more than 16 yearsdon't you think you would have it
down pat by now? "Easy way out"...buddy you talk like he was born with the
ability he has taken years to perfectIMHO.
Djs that have worked hard and have shown themselves to be resilient deserve
thier props...I always make it a point to compliment obvious creative
genius!

So let me start my list of Djs/producers/live shows that I have seen within
the course of this month (and last) that have simply been phenomenal...

Kraftwerk
Jeff Mills
Laurent Garnier

Honorable mention goes to Stacey Pullen who even though lost me with his
programming got me with track selection, his Fabric release and
again...being around for a long time and working it!

peace and respect
