Thought I'd have another quick shot at this today (can you tell I'm making sure I do as little as possible with my holiday???), and I'm constantly amazed at what the discogs user base is like. For instance, I figured just about everyone owned a copy of DJ Shadow's Entroducing, but even after adding up all the formats and different releases of it, it's still a few hundred shy of The Bells. If you take that to mean there's a high proportion of hard techno fanatics, the Drum Code, Ben Sims, Surgeon, etc releases aren't even close to that high. Maybe The Bells is required for both sets of techno lover and that's why so many people have it? Dunno... I even tried Depeche Mode, Michael Jackson, Beastie Boys, Nirvana and Public Enemy. Not even close. Tristan === http://www.phonopsia.co.uk [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. hehe, i have that as well, but on a bootleg. counting all vinyl/12" releases where this tune appears i guess that one wins the competition. windowlicker was the first record i was thinking of, but not even 1000 discogs members have it (the official 12" version): http://www.discogs.com/release/3666 or lil louis' french kiss, but then again: you have to count all those different releases... c* Thomas D. I was thinking along the same lines - pick the most popular tune you could find - except I defected and started looking at people like Tiesto and Sasha & Digweed. Seems although gobs and gobs of people just gush about them, not too many own viny copies of their records (or do CDs count?). I take this as a positive sign. Either that or the massive masses haven't discovered Discogs yet. I take this as a positive sign too. RE: (313) discogs.com smoking crack rocks?
Yeah I've had similar strange reasons for rejection of comments from discogs. Yet at the same time I've seen the most anodyne, wierd (i.e. not particularly reflective of the music) or sometimes just plain idiot comments on there! I have had some comments passed - but again, the reasons why they went and others didn't isn't altogether clear. At the v least it's inconsistent. The loose 'peer review' system on comments appears to be too loose, 'cause all to often the moderators seem to have vested interests. k >-Original Message- >From: Thomas D. Re: (313) discogs.com smoking crack rocks?
perhaps you should not say "when I played to a crowd", and you should instead say "when played to a crowd of it was accepted openly". I can see the line that they don't want to cross. If they allowed reviews like that, they'd have every bedroom dj in teh world sliding in quips about how good a record is when THEY play it, etc. If it's really not about the fact that you played it, then you'll have no problem changing the words around to make it generic. :D dense On Mon, 5 Jul 2004, Thomas D. Discogs is also been a great place to meet like minded people. I have met up with some great people from the website and even put on an old house/techno and acid night which would have never happened otherwise. RE: (313) Discogs.com question
I've had mune up there for a few years now...there is a way to go there and make your collection private so that no one else can see it. That way, no one will ask you to sell it. It does happen all the time now, but I have scored some real deals out of there... If you have a huge problem with it let me know...I am a moderator and I will bring it up in the mod forum to see if maybe something else can be done about it.
