He moved there when he shut down Juicebox but he's starting a new label called Nanoplasmic and is back in the UK. Kier is gonna have some involvement with Nanoplasmic... but all of Gerald's new stuff is coming out on Studio !K7. His new single Fever is out on the 30th. You need to keep up with Gerald if you wanna keep up with Kier because they do have a lot of involvement with one another and have done since about '96 when Gerald started having these new ideas... Yes, lady miss kier plays drum and bass now. I saw here a few years ago in Boston, and she played a mixture of different D&B styles. .:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.: PLATFORM NETWORK EMAIL Over 20 domains to choose from! Sign Up at http://www.platformmail.net
Re: [313] Deee-Lite
Yes. Hearing Dee-Lite in jr. high (and 808 State and, um, that Stone Roses dance record a few years later) was sort of a revelation, though it did take a bit longer for dance music to fully break through my punk-indie-industrial young tastes. One of my best moments out was a few years ago at a loft-style house in Seattle called Lish House. It was six a.m. or so and the crowd was flagging--sitting down, half asleep--until the DJ, Eddie, put on "Groove is in the Heart" and then a few bossa nova records. Perfect. Someone can probably correct me: I think Lady Miss Kier spins jungle now, right? _ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. RE: [313] Deee-Lite and the Dimitris
Tis is the dutch Dimitri. He recorded some nice tracks together with Eric Nouhan. Dimitri used to be an amazing dj but both Eric and Dimitri are bit cheesy nowadays. RE: [313] Deee-Lite and the Dimitris
I believe there may be a third Dimitri out there as well, but it could be one of the aformentioned two going as "Dimitri". I have seen Super DJ Dimitri spin twice, and I can't recommend it. The mixing is fine but the track selection left something to be desired. When I saw him in Seattle last he was spinning a lot of west coast breaks. Blech! Other than that, I love the music of Dee-Lite. You should have seen the crowd go nuts when Boo Williams dropped "Groove Is In the Heart" in Iowa City. I also love Dimitri from Paris' music, but I've never heard him mix. The one person I know who has was not impressed, but she has strange taste. Anyway, I belive there to be a third Dimitri, who goes by just "Dimitri". He made an amazing album with Eric Nouhan (sp?) four or five years ago. Some of you may remember one of the songs from that was "Folkloric Acid" as featured on the Carl Craig DJ Kicks Mix CD [313 tie-in achieved!] on !K7. But there are also a few latin house tracks on the album that absolutely blow me away. The production styles are not too-far removed from what either Deee-Lite or Dimitri from Paris produce, but I still suspect it's another Dimitri - I don't know why. It could possibly be Dimtri from Paris before he became Dimitri from Paris??? To stray even further from Deee-Lite, I bought an Eric Nouhan 12" on Outlands (not sure if that's the right name - the label with the cool original art by Dara?) suspecting he might be the brains behind the outfit and was pretty disapointed. The best track was an electro/trancey thing that left me suspecting Dimitri was the brains behind the outfit. Re: [313] Deee-Lite
actually for another 313 tie...carl craig did a remix for them on the dancefloor oddities remixes CD. My "progression" with electronic music began with disco oriented music. One of the first tapes I bought was B-52's, I can even remember walking into the store and buying it. When I heard Dee-lite in 90...i was like 'what the f is this?' it caught my ear b/c it was different-the music and the musicians. IMHO Dee-lites talent was often overshadowed by the clothes and image. Kier sings on the new Guy Called Gerald album, but even though she tries to bring it down a notch-she still has that disco/house essence about her. It be nice to see her play with her range a bit.IMHO. http://allmusic.com/cg/x.dll?p=amg&sql=A466402 d From: FC3 Richards <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "'313@hyperreal.org'" <313@hyperreal.org> Subject: [313] Deee-Lite Date: Fri, 6 Oct 2000 15:40:24 -0700 so anyways i am here in the middle east just enjoying my time off and i goto a CD store to see what kind of electronic music they listen to up here, and discovered that they pretty much only listen to trance over here too. that doesn't suprise me at all. what suprised me was the fact that i found a Deee-Lite CD that i had never seen before. it is called Infinity Within. pretty good stuff, which i think they have always done. i realize that they must have put on an entertaining show, but i can see some people saying that they are cheesey because of it. so here is my question. how come deee-lite doesn't get more credit??? or atleast Supa DJ Dimitri? he wrote most of the music. They were doing this long before the electronic music boom here in the late 90's. It is really good house music. sounds like it is straight out of chicago for the most part. oh, and here is the detroit tie in, too...Juan Atkins did the first Wax Trax Master Mix and Adam X did the second, a third was supposed to come out with Supa DJ Dimitri, where is it?? is it any good??? am i the only one that like them?? jeff ps...this isn't a women in electronic music thread either...lady kier might look good, but its the music that sells me here... - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. RE: [313] Deee-Lite
Great stuff indeed, I have found Infinity Within to be better in fact than World Clique, which had much more success... Lady Kier still shows up from time to time, I remember seeing her on a Johny L LP, and on the latest A Guy Called Gerald LP... I think that most of their musical attractiveness came in fact from the Japanese guy, Towa Tei, who did some very good stuff on his own since then, most notably as Fantastic Plastic Machine - but on an easy listening tip... (and Supa DJ Dimitri really has nothing to do with Dimitri from Paris - though DfP has recorded some work under his Dimitri from Tokyo alias) Gwendal > -Original Message- > From: FC3 Richards [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Saturday, October 07, 2000 12:40 AM > To: '313@hyperreal.org' > Subject: [313] Deee-Lite > > > so anyways i am here in the middle east just enjoying my time > off and i goto > a CD store to see what kind of electronic music they listen > to up here, and > discovered that they pretty much only listen to trance over > here too. that > doesn't suprise me at all. what suprised me was the fact > that i found a > Deee-Lite CD that i had never seen before. it is called > Infinity Within. > pretty good stuff, which i think they have always done. i > realize that they > must have put on an entertaining show, but i can see some > people saying that > they are cheesey because of it. so here is my question. how > come deee-lite > doesn't get more credit??? or atleast Supa DJ Dimitri? he > wrote most of > the music.
