Re: (313) Claude Young & Shawn Rudiman live in Pittsburgh

2011-09-25 Thread Arturo Lopez
Just the kind of thing I need to see more of... sounds like everyone
had a fantastic time.

Speaking of Kent having already seen everyone before, I just found
Kent's review of when we (of the now defunct Kickdrum crew) brought
Rudiman and Zentz and Walker to DC in 2002.
www.mail-archive.com/313@hyperreal.org/msg27552.html

Back in the stone-age though when the racks of live equipment were
piled to the sky. It really makes me smile thinking that ten years
later he's still shredding it live at good parties. Some things may
change but some things always stay the same. Right on.

It means it can't be downloaded any more times unless the owner pays up to make
it downloadable more.

On the other hand, you can download any track (even if it doesn't have any
downloads left, or never allowed it) from SoundCloud via OffLiberty.COM ...
with the caveat that it will be the equivalent of the streamed version; i.e.,
128 Kbps only.

Having seen shawn play countless times before, as well as claude (not nearly
as often) over the years, both artists were in rare form on that night.

Well friends, after some very long night's thinking this over I have decided to
take some time out of the music world for a while.
This was not an easy decision and I want to say thanks to all of you for your
support over the past years.
There is a strong possibility 2004 might be my last year involved in electronic
music so if you get the chance to come to any of the shows in the remainder of
2004 please come and enjoy yourselves.
When u dedicate your life to something for over a decade and it goes completely
off the rails you have to make adjustments or go down with the ship.
People have their pre-conceptions and their likes and dislikes, that's fine
with me, we are all meant to be free.
The scene used to be full of vibrant and creative people but now it's just full
of moaners who support artist who don't give a about them. All they are
interested in is boosting their own name and increasing their bank accounts.
Next time u go to a party and the ticket price is amazingly high for you to see
a DJ u cant event speak to before, during or after his set think about what is
important to them.
Call me stupid but i thought it was only human to engage other human
being's was I wrong???
Someone on a post said "if claude young wanted to sell out he could have a long
time ago but he never did".
Before this though another person sent a post to Detroit-Luv saying "well im
sure he'll make a lot of money charging for the farewell tour".
These comments are not the main reason but they are a factor, how much more of
my life am I to give only to have my work constantly thrown back in my face in
favor of other artist who are only concerned with the bank balance of their
account
Next time this guys shells out a wad of cash to see some guy mix 40 records
together that all sound the same he should ask himself what is really important.
I figure my energy is better served helping people.
So im considering being a volunteer in a foreign country. Possibly an aid
worker or something similar. Anything to help make other peoples lives a little
better.
Every man has his breaking point and I have been on the road since i left
Detroit over 11 years ago, every week. So im taking some time out for once and
if i decide to come back it will be under different circumstances.
I've had bad management coupled with other setbacks as well so if i do come

well, he was supposed to play tonite in chicago with oliver ho, and he
disappeared from the lineup. of course, that's not really confirmation,
and i have no idea why he isn't playing tonite. but its certainly
disappointing.

(and its not that oliver ho/blake baxter isn't pretty sweet, but i'm

first off its not Pioneer that makes that fader box your talking
about.its called the MXF8 made by Grexultra...the same people who
made
the infamous Notron. Ben Long and Paula Temple were the first to use
this
new piece and Claude saw it and wanted production model #1 They are
still kinda buggy thats why they have not been fully released yet but
soon
they will be available for all..look for the Advent to have one next
in his live showsbut yes it does add an amazing kinda interaction

He used Ableton Live and the MXF Pioneer to amazing effect, dropping
new/old/quirky tracks
whislt using the sampling of like doctor who etc over the top. He said he
only
starting using it the night b4 but he new it inside out, well it seemed

The thing that really got me is that he was not totally laptop'd out he
used

can. Also the pioneer has its own cross fader and with upto 8 storage banks
you can

Word has it that this is the first in a series of releases on Axis from
Claude. AFAIK, the next will be a mini-album. More info when I have it...

It sold out rather quickly. I was lucky and managed to secure 2 copies...1
for me and one for a friend.

It is pretty good...I was suprised to see some USER type behavior out of
Claude Young, but he gets a little crazy with it at times. I like it alot!

it's been sold out since a few days after i mentioned it here, which was...
2 weeks ago? maybe 3.

it's nicely done, as mark said.

apparently there is a cd version as well, but i've only heard rumor of that.

Re: [313] claude young + dj rok "berlin-detroit"

2002-06-21 Thread David Powers
I have a mix that was labelled as Claude Young - djsets.com;
I got it off of Soulseek though.
If I saw a copy I would buy it though.
It is really excellent. Mixing seems smooth (no tricks I noticed) but nice long
blends.
And the track selection is just a great update of what I would consider to be
the classic deep Detroit techno sound.

2001-07-05 Thread Jwan Allen
yes the tour was canceled. It was canceled sometime ago actually.
Claude was suppposed to play in PGh on July 3 (Mike dearborn played
instead). The tour was canceled becuae the promotion company
responsible for booking his tour didn't meet the required dedlines.
So Claude accepted dates in europe and asia.

Dow (house) and Utensil (techno) were
started by Claude Young and David Whiteside.
(I've often wondered if DOW are David Whiteside's
initials). Whiteside was the ENDOW release that
came out last summer on DOW. Most other stuff

it was always my underestanding that Utensil was started by Claude and
Terrence Dixon, and that shortly after it's beginning, claude left the
label and it was in terrence dixon's hands.

I think he did some deep house tracks on the Serious Grooves label, you might
want to check his Project 625 records on Dow also.

He has cut his ties with Elypsia (Belgium) and is starting a new album which
will come out on his own fledgling label, Data; he is seriously considering
a second imprint for 'listening music.' He wants to finally shed the
perception that all he is about is 'minimal techno'; he is actually very
diverse. He remains a big hip-hop head, for example, and has cut some beats
with Anthony "Shake" Shakir (yet to be released).

Philip M got me into his first album, Soft Thru, which came out on Elypsia
in 1997. It's a revelation.

Also his mix-CD in the DJ Kicks series is considered one of its definitive
issues.

That's for starters.

Oh and Claude is designing a Web site - he is doing it all himself, so that
should be cool.

Cheers

When a Richie Hawtin tour (FUSE) of Australia blew out, Richie recommended
Claude instead; it was his first time DJing outside the US.

He lived in Adelaide, where he loved the laid-back lifestyle, for three
months in the early 90s, hanging out with HMC, the Juice crew and GT. He
crashed at GT's; and GT got him a residency - I forget the venue. Back then
GT was more into the hip-hop side of things - he was a hip-hop DJ - so they
had a lot in common musically and just hit it off.

He's still friends with that crew.
