RE: (313) DEMF prediction

2010-05-25 Thread Odeluga, Ken

Yeah actually I don't mind side B, although I'm not absolutely mad about it.
It's quirkier. And I feel it might grow one me. I feel I already have absorbed
all the juice out of side A and I've only heard it about 3 times.

I tend to think that the headline track is the A side though, so that's what I
was levelling my ire at.

Do *you* wanna fight Greg? ;-)

FWIW, I was speaking of the B side when I mentioned my DEMF
prediction. I will be shocked and amazed if I don't hear it at least
once. That melody is irresistible!!!

You're wrong. It's amazing. Not very minimal either. And it has a melody! Which
is why people might think it could be a big tune at DEMF I suppose.

I don't know what the fuss is all about.

To me it seems just like an old fashioned, run-of-the-mill [and off the
conveyor belt] 'minimal' thing.

It's got interesting effects but tbe sounds are flat, cold and tinny, and the
whole thing is s quite soul-less and meaningless, even in our world of dance
music,
in which the 'meaning' of music is opaque [at best].

If that becomes a DEMF anthem I will make a rubbish track myself and make it
available for free so that *I* can have the next DEMF 'anfem'.

The only thing interesting about it is the moniker of the artist, in my view.

I am not saying anyone claimed it was good. Merely giving my own couple of
cents worth.

RE: (313) DEMF prediction [plus cheeky Bleep43 re-spam about this Friday]

2010-05-20 Thread Odeluga, Ken

Cool. I'll try and listen out for it when out. Ahem.

This isn't a bad time to RE-SPAM the list with something fun coming up on
Friday.

Stop reading now, if you're averse.

Speaking of Transmat, label owner Derrick May, AKA techno demi-god Mayday will
in fact be playing a six-hour set for us at Bleep43 this Friday, in London.

Mr. May has promised that as it's us, he will not be bringing his box of
'Super-Club Techno.'

Instead, expect a set of fun, across the board, deeper techy gear, house, disco
and whatever takes his fancy, a la his best sets at Lost, DEMF 2000, and Mix-Up
Vol. 5.

Hope to see a whole lot of you there.

http://www.bleep43.com/

Cheers.

Ken

:) I'll confirm I've changed my mind Ken.

It's an unashamedly "poppy" bit of techno but that doesn't seem to get in the
way of me liking it now. It's much better loud too.

The original was crying out for a new mix. This doesn't cut it for me.

2010-05-20 Thread Girard, Gary
Greetings 313!

I hope you're right Robin, I'm making my debut appearance at Movement this
year... finally making the pilgrimage to techno mecca : )

Started the Detroit warm-up by catching Iggy & the Stooges live the other week
(playing through Raw Power.) Next up it's a 6 hour Derrick May set at Bleep,
that should be a fitting send-off.

My prediction is it will be damn good & the best of them that Paxahau have done
so far. I will hear the tales, wish I'd gone,
decide I might next year. But then fall prey to either not wanting to fly (for
environmental reasons, I love flying for its own
sake) or if I decide I can do that I should do it to somewhere else. Damn.
Have a wonderful time all you who do make the trip & I
hope it brings good things to the city.

what's irritating to me is that the bridge should have been huge LAST
YEAR, but Derrick was hogging it and not giving out promos of it to
the big djs. he was the only person who had it.
