Re: [AI] why do we need toolbars

2006-07-26 Thread Pranav Lal
Hi all,

A toolbar is an alternative to a menu. It is easier to click on a button as
compared to clicking on a menu item and then scrolling to find the right
option.

Tool bars provide the functionality of the respective sites on top of
Internet Explorer. For example, if you have the Google tool bar, you
always have a google search box in Internet Explorer under the menus.
The idea is that you can start searching from any site without going to
the google site. The problem however is the lack of accessibility to
these tool bars. I am not aware of any means to set focus to the tool
bar and navigate through the available buttons. So, I don't use them. If
I want, I can always go to the Google site and start searching.

Kiran.

Re: [AI] why do we need toolbars

2006-07-26 Thread rajesh asudani
Hello Aruni

In internet explorer, go to address bar by pressing control + f4 and just
type the name of any entity with a site, e.g. Annamalai University, and hit
enter. Provided the google tool bar is installed and functioning on your
system, you should straightway land on the website without knowing whether
it is .com or .ac.in etc. Even if sometimes, the required site is not
displayed, google search result page with that name is displayed which makes
the job easier.
Hope it helps.

Regards

Rajesh.

Hi rajesh, despite my best effort I could not access the search by name
feature you have mentioned. Please guide me how you accomplished the
task. I used the jaws cursor but did not find any controls which would
allow us to type names of sites instead of URLs.

Two useful functions of google tool bar I have been using are: pop up block,
and search by name. Second one particularly, specially, at times takes you
directly to website you are looking for, without typing the extension etc.
