Re: AW: Moving one nodes date from primary direct access disk

2007-06-20 Thread Andrew Carlson

The storage pool is 140TB, so not an option. The data I need to move is
archive data.

I started an export node with just that data, but from the speed of it, it
looked like it would take 120 hours or more. I'm going back to my original
thinking, and doing move volume tempstg, move nodedata tempstg tapestg, move
nodedata diskstg

Since you are ready to transfert 6Tb :
1- Create a sequential pool
2- migrate from disk to newly created sequential pool
3- move nodedata from this sequential pool to target sequential pool
4- migrate the last data's from this sequential pool back to disk...

If you are not in hurry and your retention periods are not too long,
simply update that node´s backup storage groups to point to the new
sequential access pool (which is to be done anyway) and have the your6TB in
the old random pool expired with the time.

Re: Moving one nodes date from primary direct access disk

It's not our largest node by a long shot. We have several DB2 nodes that
are holding upwards of 15TB apiece, and a couple more in the 10TB range.

I would expect that amount of data to represent the largest quantity
in the disk storage pool. If that is the case, then allowing the
data to migrate down to a node-collocated sequential pool, with
MIGPRocess=1 in effect and migration levels lowered, would cause that
dominant node's data to be handled first. You could then do Query
PRocess periodically to estimate when the data is just about all
moved, and then be ready to cancel the process and reset the
migration levels once all the node's data is moved. With the
destination being a tape pool, the node transition would be apparent,
as a partially filled tape would be left as the single process then
went on to mount a fresh tape for the next node. In any case, any
"overshoot" would be on a separate tape, whereupon you could Move
Data that node's data back to the disk stgpool, or wherever.

I think you can raise the thresholds right after the migration begins as
the single process will move all the data for the largest node before
checking the thresholds again.
