[graphics-issues] [Issue 86291] Custom slide show changes are not noticed
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=86291 Issue #|86291 Summary|Custom slide show changes are not noticed Component|Presentation Version|OOo 2.3.1 Platform|PC URL| OS/Version|Windows XP Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P2 Subcomponent|editing Assigned to|cgu Reported by|batzel --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Feb 21 01:22:40 + 2008 --- Changing a custom show doesn't always enable the Save menu item (OOImpress doesn't notice that there have been changes made). This can result in losing changes made to a custom show. I can reproduce the problem thusly: 1) Slide Show -> Custom Slide Show -> brings up the dialog of all the custom shows. 2) Edit button -> brings up the custom show with the slides in it 3) At this point, make some changes to the show. I've changed the title, added and deleted slides. (Edit the title so you can see the change on the previous dialog.) 4) Click OK and you're back at the dialog of all the custom shows 5) Here's the issue: Clicking 'close' and clicking the "X" bring about different behaviors. Both should act the same way! 5a) If I click the "X" to close the dialog, then go to the File menu, the Save option is greyed out. Going back into the Slide Show -> Custom Slide Show -> dialog box, however, the title of the show is clearly as I changed it in step 3. Editing the show shows the slide changes I made are still there. 5b) Repeat the steps 1-5 above or from 5a above make some additional edits to the custom show(s). This time, instead of hitting the "X" button click the "Close" button. Now in the File menu, the "Save" option is lit up. This behavior is inconsistent. If the "X" means "Cancel" then the changes just made to the custom show should be reverted (and the Save option should be greyed out because no changes have been made). If the "X" is equivalent to the "Close" button, then the changes should stick and the Save option should be lit up. Further note that after 5a) above, one can close Impress via either File -> Exit or the "X" on the application's main window and the changes made to the custom show are LOST. This has apparently happened to us repeatedly, and it's easy to do. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sc-issues] [Issue 5658] Spreadsheet thinks a number is a string (text)
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=5658 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Feb 21 00:17:23 + 2008 --- @kohei: I opt for the following: - All cases where a numeric parameter is expected and an argument is passed either as a literal string or a single cell reference where the cell has textual content should generate an error. No differentiation between ="3"+4 and =A1+4. You simply can't handle text as numbers across locales reliably as soon as it involves floating point and maybe even group separators and not integers only. - There could be one exception to this rule: in date calculation context a date string of the ISO 8601 form "-mm-dd" could be accepted. @philhibbs: To my knowledge all significant spreadsheet applications treat range references (A1:B3) when expecting a numeric parameter such that they are taken as a number sequence, ignoring text cells. Text cells are not touched or converted to 0 if the function specification doesn't say different. This will not be changed. @daxkelson: > When opening a ... file You'd end up with different modes to be maintained in the interpreter, documentation, online help, the user not knowing which mode he's currently in, loosing the source information when saving in a different format, and different calculations just because you (re)opened a file in a different format. You don't really want that. @all: Discussions in issues tend to get lengthy, repeat arguments because newcomers don't read all previous comments, have no proper quoting, and make it hard to follow a thread, if there was one, if one wasn't involved from the beginning. I think such discussions are best carried out on the mailing lists, in this case maybe [EMAIL PROTECTED], where at least quoting and threading are helpful instruments. The outcome or certain milestones could be added to the issue then. [sw-issues] [Issue 86281] active widow/orphan contro l blocks separation of footnotes
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=86281 User uwegalle changed the following: What|Old value |New value Status|RESOLVED |UNCONFIRMED Resolution|WORKSFORME| Summary|footnote formatting forces|active widow/orphan contro | user to accept nearly bla|l blocks separation of foo |nk page |tnotes --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Feb 20 23:43:30 + 2008 --- Sorry, but there is a simple solution for both situations without the described effect what should be the same as with Microsoft Word. There is no need for the widow/orphan control to drag the paragraph to a new page because the start of the footnote is not the end of the page. The solution in both cases is to shift lines of the footnote to the footnote of the next page. This is nearly the same thing what is done with an inactive widow/orphan control: If you add a character after "INSERT CHARACTER HERE (POINT1):" with an inactive widow/orphan control Writer at first considers the start of the footnote as the end of the page and shifts one line of the next paragraph to the next page. But what happens if you add more characters so that a second line is needed? Writer does not do that what it does with active widow/orphan control: It does not shift the line with the footnote number together with the footnote to the next page. It lets the line with the footnote number on the page and narrows the footnote area by shifting lines to the footnote area to the next page. And this is also the solution with active widow/orphan control. I think this should really be clear. Do you see a problem here with general principals of widow/orphan control? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I need to write a Basic macro that will load a file and export it into PDF. The default loading operation such as this oDoc = StarDesktop.loadComponentFromURL( cInURL, "_blank", 0, _ Array(MakePropertyValue( "Hidden", True ),)) works for some files but not for others. For instance, it seems to correctly load Arabic files but not Urdu. This seems to be related to the issue #63077 (http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=63077) which has been reported a while ago. Has it been resolved in the release 2.3.X? In other words, is it possible to correctly load a UTF-8 or -16 encoded text file with BOM without explicitly specifying the encoding? Thank you. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sc-issues] [Issue 5658] Spreadsheet thinks a number is a string (text)
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=5658 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Feb 20 22:37:59 + 2008 --- @daxkelson: I don't understand why you are going so far in your request that it be 100% Excel-emulating. As I understand it you had an issue with direct cell calculations, such as =A1*10. Have you ever encountered a problem where you need Excel's SUM() behaviour to be maintained and not fixed in the same way? If you can't point to examples where this kind of pathological behaviour is needed, then I don't think there is any case to be made to fix A1+A2 behaviour and not SUM(A1:A2). Like I said earlier, I would guess that the majority of cases where Excel is skipping over text values an not summing them, that isn't what the spreadsheet owner intended. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Currently, I have 2 workarounds: 1) Copy custom color theme (every 'Automatic color' imitated as closely as possible as user one through every picker, phew !) in UI.xcu created under normal colored user account to my dark themed one, over this location: ~/.ooo-2.0/user/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office/UI.xcu. I can't seem to attach the file, dang ! So you'll have to do it by hand too I guess (or email me). 2) Compile OO.o without gnome and GTK support. (didn't try) Please, please anyone made disabling the high contrast mode work? I really don't want to dig into these huge sources. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. By chance I left OO Base running and went to lunch. When I got back it had eventually showed the MYOB ODBC table contents, but then stopped responding again when trying to view the tables. Ver 2.0 is a bit more forgiving, but in the end they both eventually stop responding and I had to end the soffice process in task mananger. MSQuery in Excel and ACCESS are instant and crash proof so far. I have contacted the support people at MYOB and this is what they have come back with... " The interaction between OO and MYOB may be different as the ODBC driver is not just providing access to a relational database it is actually building a view. The MYOB datafile is not a relational database but a flat file c-tree database. It is the MYOB ODBC driver which then provides the MYOB datafile in a relational view, so depending on the tasks OO is performing, may be impacted by this aspect." I suspect that OO Base and the MYOB ODBC driver are not totally compatible, and it takes a very very long time to sort itself out Hope this helps. The MYOB software is downloadable from www.myob.com if the OO software engineers need to test it... - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The feature that is being asked for is an ability to quickly print an envelope within writer. W*rd has this ability and it is used frequently by people that need to quickly address an envelope without sitting down and fashioning a template, measuring the printing areas, etc. As an additional factor, people with limited dexterity use this feature to address envelopes when they are unable to properly address one by hand. The function is mathematical (Kronecker delta), defined just for numbers I believe. In ODFF it seems to be defined just for numbers, but I can't figure out if that means it *must* give an error for non-numbers. I had included 3 videos an some pictures in that presentation. As an Experienced Computer user, I know, that presenting Slide-Shows in different Computer Enviroments have some issues or fail completely. So I tested it on another computer with Windows and OOo portable from portableapps.com but AS expected, I had some problems: Not even any externals Ressource were shown although i had the same directory hirachy - OOo saved the absolute Paths. After I copy&paste'd the images from the gimp, the transparency got lost - but the images were save in the .odp file - but there was no opportunity like this one for the Videos. Export in SWF is corrupted, i got sometime green areas in my .swf. Export in PPT is not an option because of the lack of an viewer (not installable on target system) and on that specific target system in the school even was no PPT installed ... So I tried PDF export - if you don't wan't to use animations or Videos this export variant is the most valuable - it's even better than OOo itself because you're can rely that images will be saved inside the file. but from Videos, theres only the first Frame taken... I google'd for an Pack&go mechanism liek MS PPT has - but there seems to be none existing This is a really missing feature of OOo - I asked some of my Friends, if they they ever had that problem - some said, that this was the reason for them to switch back to PPT, some said that this issue seems for them to be a show stopper and in some cases in the past it limited them not to use animations and Videos in their SlideShows because they used the onyl safe export option - PDF! So I finally coem to the end: I ask the developers to Implement such a feature for OOo. It would be VERY usefull for me and others... Cross platform should not be an issue because the Viewer that has to be included in such an "Pack&GO" Feature can be implemented in Java - If i lokk on the dependecies, OOo already depends on JAVA, right? I Think (as already said above) such an Viewer/Export option is a MUST-HAVE for a SLideShow tool ... - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. You just lost your credibility. Expecting bug-for-bug compatability with Excel is unreasonable and unachievable. @kohei: >we would still need to provide some solutions to >those users who rely on that behavior of Excel. We can't just leave them in >the dust. You have users who rely on SUM(A1:A2) not including a text cell that contains a number? I'm a little surprised. Fixing both aspects of the issue - making it calculate in both A1+A2 and SUM(A1:A2) - will fix far, far more cases than it will break. I even think it will fix more cases than just patching the first behaviour would, I'd expect that most spreadsheets that are failing to include text cells in their calculations are doing so in variance to the creator's intent. >By the way, that's the _existing_ behavior. My patch won't touch it. I just >merely covered it to keep my intention clear. >So, your above statement is incorrect. If a patch deliberately introduces a discrepancy between A1+A2 and SUM(A1:A2) then I call that a bugged patch. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=5658 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Feb 20 17:27:55 + 2008 --- @philhibbs "OOo does not and should not have emulation of Excel bugs on its feature list." If the "bug" is needed to have the calculation result that Excel would perform, then absolutely OOo MUST do the same as Excel when opening an Excel spreadsheet. I'm just guessing that you never had Calc almost cost you $23,000.00. >From the http://www.openoffice.org/product/calc.html it states, "Of course, you are free to use your old Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, or save your work in Excel format for sending to people who are still locked into Microsoft products." This a malicious LIE! It should say, "Of course, you are free to use your old Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, or save your work in Excel format for sending to people who are still locked into Microsoft products AS LONG AS YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT HAVING THE CALCULATED RESULTS MATCH EXCEL. WE KNOW THAT CALCULATION IS THE WHOLE POINT OF A SPREADSHEET, BUT WE DON'T GIVE A SHIT." That would make a good DIGG headline that would be sure to make the top page coupled with my documented, legitimate story of OO calc nearly costing me $23,000 back in 2005. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [tools-issues] [Issue 64558] EIS doesn't show new modul es of a cws and doesn't allow to query for new modules
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=64558 User bei changed the following: What|Old value |New value Status|REOPENED |NEW --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Feb 20 16:59:49 + 2008 --- bei->hr: This cannot be solved by EIS it must be solved by new cwsadd commandline tool support for it if it is doable at all. The EIS SOAP interface for adding a new module will already add the new module to it´s database if it is not already known and add it to the ChildWorkspace than. Problem is that information of what modules are KNOW to a MasterWorkspace is not a matter of the EIS database but of build environment configuration files such as the stand.lst file. I think there is at least the need for a new feature of cwsadd to add a new module which updates these configuration files than calls the EIS SOAP interface which is also called for existing modules and probably even additionally sends an email to Release Engineering. Wether we can also add support to cwsquery for asking which modules are new must be seen. I don´t know the glory details of those configuration files and the perl module to access them. Please have a look. As a quick solution for the main part of the problem we could maybe just start with just calling the EIS SOAP interface for adding modules also for new modules so that they are know to exist on the CWS which might eventually already make the tinderboxes happy. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To me, a 'word' it any string containing no blank or hyphen. Thus, at the end of a line, 'high-speed car' can be broken into 'high-' and 'speed car', or into 'high-speed' and 'car'. But, if I write an equation 'x=a+b-2-aaa-bbb+ccc', I want it to remain whole. OpenOffice insists on breaking it (at the end of a line) at every '/', '+' or '-', even if I use an endash, emdash, or a 'real' minus sign (unicode 2212) instead of a hyphen. Same problem for a symbol as simple as C^-1: it can be broken into 'C' at the end of a line and the exponent on the next line. Yes, I can use a formula to keep the symbol whole, but that's clumsy, and it introduces extra space around the symbol. Solution: OpenOffice should have a customizable list of 'hyphenable' characters (other than space), With an empty list, any string without space would be considered an unbreakable 'word' (except, of course, if it exceeded a whole line) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Again, you're basing solely on the ground of theoretical correctness, and for that, I'd agree with you. But don't expect the wider OOo/Novell community to accept your deliberately buggy patch.
